My parents live half an hour from us and never understand why I don't want to spend the night...I prefer being in my own house! Especially if there are digestive issues, I'd probably nix the idea of staying at your parents' because it sucks to not get bathroom time or to have to wait forever for it!

I agree with a lot of PP's, two is the magic number when it comes to bathrooms. For six years I lived in an apt with a full bath and an extra 1/2 bath and it was perfect for any size gathering or sleepover. It's a pain when a lot of people need to shower in the morning, but as long as people have access to a toilet everyone's comfortable. We made a huge sacrifice by buying a 1 bath apartment and the difference is very noticeable without that extra 1/2 bath.

@Foodnerd81: I thought about that but I don't want her to miss the race either. I think I'd rather just take her home earlier for an early nap that day.

@artbee: Yeah, I would want my own bed and my own bathroom in that case. Could you take 2 cars so one of you heads over early and the other one stays until LO wakes up and heads over later after the race is done?

@Foodnerd81: We only live 15 minutes from my parents. We'd stay at home :) It's just difficult because the race it early and LO wakes up late so being there allow her to wake up later/be less cranky and we will have trouble parking because they shut down the roads because of the race. I think all those things are worth it for our own bathrooms and sleeping in our own beds though.... sounds like you understand!

We're going to my parents house, and they only have one bathroom. That's four adults and two kids with one bathroom... I think I'll be bringing DD's potty chair!

What is your other options- a hotel, or staying at home? How far would you travel? As someone who has occasional stomach issues and really values my own personal space, I'd be inclined to not stay over. It seems like it could be really uncomfortable for your husband especially, and why force it if you have other options?
But, this is also coming from the perspective of someone who always stays in hotels when we visit my parents-- DH is allergic to their dog, and he just feels much more comfortable having his own personal space rather than staying in a bedroom in their house. It is annoying to always have to pay when we visit, but at the same time, it is really nice to leave at the end of the night and have our own downtime, get up and get ready in peace, use the bathroom as needed...So just my perspective.

My parents house is 6 bedrooms but 2.5 bathrooms (not counting a 1/2 bath in the finished basement). Around the holidays, we have 8 adults, 2 toddlers (potty trained), and 2 babies in the house! I can't imagine not staying there, but I have to admit the showering situation is a little tight!

@Minnie_Girl: @TurtleDoves: like I said, dh has crohns and my brother has some sort of stomach problem that they cant figure out. So it's not the normal get up, pee and brush your teeth, and be done with it. At least two of these people have to use the bathroom for long periods of time and when they have to use it, it has to be NOW, they cant wait for people to be finished.

I've had to plan many things around bathrooms, like where we honeymooned, where we camp, etc. so I guess its more normal to me to be concerned about these things having a husband with crohns.

@highwire: it is nice! I should admit that I only do half of the one mile, lol. I have to cut off to go to my mom's house to set up for brunch. About 60 people come after the trot. Its a casual thing for us though, we wait for all the real runners to go by then we'll jump in pulling lo in the wagon.

@artbee: Ah I wish my area had that! The only options in Dallas are the 5k and an 8 mile. One year I (stupidly) ran the 5k and then was the host for Thanksgiving for my whole family. It was absolutely exhausting!

I think if you arrange showers/shaving schedules then it should be fine. 2 toilets with 8 people really isn't that bad:/
Just hope everyone is clean!

I grew up in a family of 7 in a 2 bathroom house, and we'd vacation with about 20 people in a 2 bathroom house (with a guy who has IBS).

Having the toilet available shouldn't be an issue as long as there are two (it almost never was for my family). The chances of having two people in the bathrooms at the same time, for a long time, while someone else desperately needs it, are slim. It's the showering/bathing schedules that get complicated!

Eek yeah that might be an issue...especially if I had a race to get to...I would need a place where I could comfortably and privately go.

My mom is trying to convince dh and I to stay with her the day before thanksgiving because we do the turkey trot every year and they live close to the race so they close the roads around them and staying there makes wake up time and parking easier.

But..... I have two siblings, both married, and one with a newborn. My parents have a small house. Bedrooms aren't an issue, but there are only 2 bathrooms for all 8 of us. Dh has crohns, and my brother has stomach issues. So when do the rest of us get to use a bathroom? Its not happening.
