I'd say give it time. My 2yo was extremely verbal at home and with me, but also shy. They barely knew she could talk at daycare! (She was there from 18m to about 26m before we moved.) The next year she did 2 day preschool and I remember them saying "she never says much but boy does she like to talk if we ask about her new baby brother" and by 3.5 she was taking way more at school. I think she's the extreme you probably just need time!

DD1 is 28 months and has been in daycare since 10 months. She def talks way more at home... Teachers mostly knows that she knows everything since she follows all directions, and if you ask her something she will answer. Her personality is just more of an observer in public settings. I hope she can build trust with her teacher and at least respond! I

My son didn't have all those changes - he had been attending the same daycare since 12 months - and at around 2 his daycare said to me "Our goal for him for the next month is to start putting words together. We want to see him saying more than one word at a time." At home he talked in full sentences! He's just very shy and tends to withdraw in the company of people he doesn't know very well (basically everybody except my immediate family). He's 3 now and has finally warmed up.

My daughter barely spoke at school last year. They wanted her speech evaluated because she hardly spoke - but she was a full-on chatterbox at home. At the beginning of this year she was still very quiet in class but then something clicked, or she got more comfortable, mature, what have you, but now she doesn't stop talking! She loves to sing at school too and she pretty much will tell anyone anything at any time ;). So to me it sounds like a shyness/comfort level situation but obviously every child is different. My daughter is 4 now.
