So, I know the Aden & Anais swaddles and blankets are raved about. However, "pre-made" swaddles like the Woombie and Swaddleme seem super convenient, and they get great reviews too..... Would you recommend getting a variety, or do you think that they all overlap in terms of function?

I'm not saying this is the right thing, but we used just about every swaddle product on the market at some point in her first four months. They worked at different stages. Luckily we had a lot of hand me downs so I could try before buying extras, but if you don't I think having a few different options is a good idea. We liked the Velcro swaddle me early on, woombie later (sometimes a double swaddle with a&a blanket under a zipped woombie.) We only used the a&a blankets as swaddled in their own in the very beginning, but we still have used them a ton. She still sleeps with a "blankie" every night and I'm getting the new baby her own four pack.

I love the velcro ones! Summer Infant, Halo, etc. We have the A&A swaddles too but never used them for swaddling. Velcro is just so much easier.

We never used blankets for swaddling. I prefer SwaddleMe.

I also never used blankets, A&A or other. (I never use my A&A blankets for anything- but I think I'm in the minority there). I admit that I spent a lot of $ in the early weeks/months, looking for the "perfect" swaddle! HA. From those, I did like some more than others, like the Woombie and Merlin Magicsuit.
I also think that having a small variety of different types will be beneficial. If there's one thing I've learned about baby stuff, it's that just because a product was a miracle for one baby, doesn't mean that it will be the same for mine!! Every baby is different, so it's hard to say what will be the best swaddle option...so that's where having a few different types might be helpful. -
Honestly, I hated the A&A blankets. I don't understand why everyone raves about them and we could never get a good swaddle with them. We got great swaddles at the hospital with their receiving blankets so I know it's not that we don't know how to do it right.
We use the SummerMe Velcro swaddles and love them. So easy and convenient!

I did swaddle with A&A but not for sleep, I used Halo Sleep Sacks. I had a few SwaddleMe's too and they just didn't work well for us. I think of A&A more as blankets than swaddles and my almost 3 year old sleeps with about 4 in his bed every night. He loves them!

We're an A&A swaddle blanket house. My 2.5 year old has slept with one at home & at daycare everyday. I'm holding my swaddled baby #2 now. We have tried other swaddle products with similar success but I like the versatility of the A&A blankets. They're great for peek a boo and imaginative play.

I used swaddle me blankets for swaddling and the A&A swaddles for everything else. From burp cloth to stroller cover (Mrs. Lion had a great post on what you can do with them http://www.hellobee.com/2015/06/01/9-uses-for-muslin-blankets/).

We used the Velcro swaddleme ones and loved them! We did use A&A Blankets to swaddle as well but only for the first few weeks then switched to Velcro.

I used Velcro swaddles for when she got old enough to bust out of the regular Swaddle, then I used my Lulujos (Canadian version of A&A - I greatly prefer them to A&A though) for everything else - receiving blanket, spit up bib, car seat cover, light blanket...I stopped using the Swaddle Mes at 6 mos but I still use my lulujos today at 2 years old

Never could get a tight enough swaddle with the a&a blankets. We used swaddle mes for a while then miracle blankets once he was busting out of everything. We used A&As as burp clothes and blankets for on the floor.

We've tried just about every swaddle/sleep sack/sleep blanket on the market (thanks to two awful sleepers) and I liked the A&A least for swaddling. I could never get them tight enough. We did use them for other things like others have mentioned, so I think it would be worth it to have a few on hand.

I found the Love to Dream with my second kiddo and we LOVED it. It is like the woombie, but with extra space above baby's head so that she can put her hands above her head to sleep but still feel swaddled. She hated having her arms confined but she really loved this one.

We tried the A&A blankets for swaddles for the first few weeks but every time was a fiasco - it was a two man job, the baby hated every minute of it, we were all stressed. We then went out and bought like 4 different swaddle bags, and ended up...I don't even know, I think with the Halo? I love the A&A blankets for a lot of things but swaddling isn't one of them.

I never used the A&A blankets for swaddling, but I do like having them around as general multipurpose blankets. I did briefly use the bamboo A&A blankets (softer more silky version) and I liked those a lot more (and LO still loves them for snuggling in the car, on a walk etc). I tried a handful of swaddle products like the miracle blanket, swaddleMe, etc but ended up ditching swaddling altogether pretty early on. Of those I think I liked the swaddleMe best.

The A&A were good if we were out somewhere but we rarely used them for swaddling. She sleeps with one now. I loved the velcro ones. So much easier.

We use muslin blankets for the carseat and for supervised naps in the swing. We don't swaddle because it's too hot here. We just use thin footed sleepers. If he was born in winter, we would totally swaddle. When he was first born, we tried to swaddle and really like ones that allowed you to swaddle with arms in or arms out..
Swaddles also didn't work for us because we use the rnp for sleep and I couldn't buckle him in. -
We swaddled pretty much exclusively with the A&A blankets until about 4-5 months. At that point he was busting out of them, so we swaddled arms-out for another couple of weeks, when we just started using a regular sleep sack.

I liked both types for different purposes. We strictly used Halo swaddle sacks when LO was a newborn (I could never get the A&A swaddles to stay on her) and those were also nice because she was a fall baby and the fleece ones were perfect over the cold months. The A&A ones were great as nursing covers and shade for the stroller when she was younger, and now as a toddler, she loves them as light blankets/loveys at night and during naps.

We used the summer infant velcro style ones with E. Then i discovered the peanut and woombie for T. And they are, hands down, my favorite. Easier to use, the velcro doesn't stick to EVERY EFFING THING IN THE WASHER, and T has more mobility of his hands, which he seems to like (he can bring them up into a football goal shape, instead of them being plastered down by his hips). I'm a convert.
I use A&A muslim blankets for everything else under the sun, though. I bought them used at a retail store for $2 apiece

We like the miracle blanket. We were gifted the swaddleme and wombie but my daughter fought them and seemed uncomfortable. She wrestles pretty hard and seemed too snug. The miracle blanket is working pretty well for us

Like other mommies have posted, the A&A blankets were great for everything but swaddling. Especially their bamboo ones. The kiddo busts out of them too easily.
We used SwaddleMe, but have heard great things about other equivalents also!

I liked the ones with Velcro, we had a summer infant one and eventually, the Halo fleece. My son had a very strong moro reflex and he really needed his swaddle to sleep, so I didn't mess around with blankets.

Interesting! Thanks everyone for your views, I'll add the miracle blanket to my registry; I already have the woombie, swaddlemes, and halo sleepsacks. I guess i'll keep the A&A blankets on there too but not use them for sleep.
@simplyfelicity: interesting point about the RnP! I know the buckle is probably the official recommendation with safe sleep standards, I didn't think about the swaddle interfering with that,. However, little part of me wonders if it's really a big deal, when they're just a swaddled newborn? They can't really move as much.... hmmm. But I'm a worrywart, so now I'm rethinking the RnP.

The only swaddle technique that worked with ds1 was the Russian double? I found a video on YouTube and used a+a blankets using that swaddle trick.
We eventually moved to halo swaddle sacks and then regular sleep sacks.
We tried the miracle blanket at one point but Ds didn't like it.
A+a blankets are ds1' lovey now so they still get used 2.5 years later.
With ds2, we use the love to dream swaddle from @mrs. Lion: exclusively and the halo swaddle as a backup!

We used the A&A's for a while but eventually switched to the Swaddle Me's. We did have a woombie that I loved but it was newborn sized and he quickly grew out of it. I think DH liked the Swaddle Me's so we ended up getting a bunch of those. Or maybe I couldn't find any bigger woombies. IDK, that time is a blur
.I'd get one package of A&A's because they are so versatile. And when DS was in the RnP or swing, sometimes I'd just use a blanket over him and tuck it around his arms. Then you can use the buckle (though we didn't bother in the PnP).

@DesertDreams88: my lo slept in the rnp inches away from me and was unbuckled. I was not concerned. He was too big for the rnp by the time he was able to roll.

@DesertDreams88: For us, between choosing to swaddle vs rnp, I chose the rnp. I love that I can rock it if he gets a bit fussy and that it vibrates. I am pretty paranoid, so I want to make sure I can buckle him in.

We used the A&A bamboo swaddle blankets to swaddle LO for the first 4 months until she started breaking out of them. Then we switched to Swaddlemes for awhile.

@DesertDreams88: so a few thoughts. Neither one of my sons liked to be swaddled so make sure to keep receipts! With DS1, I did "swaddle" him but only on the bottom with his arms out because I thought maybe he was cold. We used the Velcro ones for that until he was about 3 months old. With DS2, we used rnp - best baby gear item ever. He used a sleep sack from the start and I didn't buckle him. He couldn't go anywhere. By the time he really moved he had outgrown it anyway.
