I think it would all depend. In theory, no, but someone might be at a stage in life where the commitment is too much for them to handle. For example I’m 36 and have two small kids and would have to think twice before agreeing to be a BM for someone I’m not super close with who wants a big expensive shower and destination Bach, etc. meanwhile I probably would have agreed to that without hesitation in my 20’s.

Too old or too young? I would imagine an older bride would often have older bridesmaids.
That said I worked with someone, probably in his late 40s or early 50s, who thought it was ridiculous that his wife was being a bridesmaid, doing to party and the matching dresses and everything. But he was kind of a jerk about a lot of things so I felt like this was no exception.

For me personally I have an internal cut off (for me to be a bridesmaid).

I would say no, a bridesmaid is someone close to the bride regardless of age.
I'm 34 still waiting on my 2 younger sisters to find their future husbands, so who knows how old I'll be, if/when that happens.

My best friend's granny was her flower girl. It was adorable.
I don't think it has as much to do with age as relationship and other responsibilities.
In my 20s, it didn't take much for me to agree to do it. It was fun and it was an honor.
Being older and knowing what all it involves, I'd hesitate more. It would have to be someone I'm REALLY close to to make me want to do it in my late 30s.

I’ve shot around a hundred weddings and there aren’t many things I have not seen. Sometimes a bride or groom chooses to have a parent or even grandparent as a bridesmaid or groomsman. I do notice that people who are a bit older or are getting remarried may opt for no wedding party.

No age limit on a BM just like a bride could be any age.

@youboots: I’ve seen dads and granddads as groomsmen but never moms on either side!
Agreed on no age limit!

I was a bridesmaid last year in my late 30's for a close friend in her 40's getting remarried. Her oldest bridesmaid was in her 50's, and her 18 year old son was a groomsman (also walked her down the aisle). None of it seemed weird.
