Could you just order a PNP and send it to your friends instead of lugging one on the plane? Or surely they have a place near them where you could pick one up?

I have packed my PNP in my giant suitcase, I have a luggage scale so I was able to make sure I didn't go over. I've also checked it separately, but that was a very child friendly airline, and there was no additional cost for it.

I also have a Cosco Scenera, it's a good seat IF you are not installing it rear facing...it's difficult to get a good install without a pool noodle or a towel. I've used it on planes, in cars in Europe, at WDW, belt installed, LATCH installed, you name it.

the angle for the carseat is dependent on the car. Some cars have more slanted seats which causes that issue.. So the towel/noodle thing may not be an issue but any seat that's slanted in a car is going to be trouble to install a car seat regardless of brand.

@looch: what airline did you fly that was kid friendly!? Was it a U.S one?

@looch: Austrian Air is also really kid friendly -- they let us check our Bjorn crib for free in addition to stroller and car seat.

@BabyPenguinXO: The problem I had with the scenera is there is a piece of plastic on the front of the seat, it's fixed and can't be moved (at least in my 5 year old model it is). It causes the seat to pitch forward, regardless of the seat in the car, although, I do agree, that is part of the equation as well.

@Foodnerd81: I think you have to practice, you know? You could do a towel or a piece of pool noodle, that you can pack with the seat.

eta: and I agree, if it comes down to it and you have a good FF install, you're better than a poor RF install.

I checked our pack n play, which came with a bag, and also stuffed some packs of diapers in it because it had room left over inside.

@blackbird: yup! It did get kinda dirty but I didn't mind. If you do you can get one of those gate check bags to protect it.

We flew with a car seat and a stroller. We were told that you're allowed to swap the stroller for a pack and play if you want to. So, if you're not taking a stroller that might be an option?
