We have DS2 on the way, and we're really struggling to come up with another boy name we like. We have two names we're considering - but one is the same initial as our last name (so think John Jones) and the other is the same initial as DS1's name (so think two brothers named Kevin and Keegan Jones.) Which do you think is less obnoxious?
I'm pretty sure this is a case of overthinking, but it's really bugging me for some reason!

I think either one is fine. I actually know a Jon Jones and I've never thought anything of it.

I love it. We plan to use the same first letter for all future kid's names. My brother and I have rhyming names (6 years apart), but my parents didn't plan it that way. They just used names they liked.

Neither of those really bothers me. One thing to consider - if you ever had a third, would you then feel obligated to come up with another K---n name?
We have three girls, and I personally didn't like the idea of having two of them share an initial (simply for labelling reasons - I already have an H and an I, and it's hard to tell whose stuff is whose sometimes). I also like that our three girls have different endings to their names - "-ley", "-elle", and "-ia". Easy to differentiate who I'm calling for across the playground

@dc yoga bee: My dad and his two brothers have rhyming names (not these ones, but similar to Larry, Jerry, and Gary)! I'm assuming my grandparents had to have done it on purpose?

@raspberries: Ours really rhyme as well. But, my grandmother named me, and my mom didn't notice it rhymed until I pointed it out as a kid. They both end with the hard e sound. Billy and Willy. But, those aren't them lol.
Now, my daughter is Maya, and I would love to name her sister Mia. Maya-Mia (say it with jazz hands lol) but DH says no way. So, I'm thinking Maya, Mila. Okay, Maya and Marissa. He likes Cora. Maya and Cora.

I want to break it, and am trying to find an M name I love for the alliteration with our M last name for our third!

Me and my 3 sisters all end in the sound /E/ by my fourth sister my mom felt she had to find a name that ended with that sound too:

@raspberries: John Jones is less annoying that having your kids have the same initials--harder to label things--haha.

I love both. We have 2 daughters with K names and our last name starts with a hard "C" sound so we have a little of both going on in our own family. With 2 kids of the same sex I'm actually finding it super easy to label things, especially with the hand me downs since it's the same initial, last name. I'm hoping it encourages sisterly sharing...But maybe I'm just a little lazy

All of us have the same first initial, so I really think it's fine. My husband and I couldn't do anything about our names, but we made sure the boys names aren't too similar despite having the same letter. We were also really careful with middle names to make sure no one has the same initials.

My sisters both have 4 letter names that start with the same letter. People always got their names mixed up and I felt like an after thought with my totally different name. For those reasons I would opt for the John Jones version.

Personally I like everyone to have their own initial but it depends on the overall feel.

I wouldn't be bothered by either and know lots of people who have made these naming choices. I personally prefer different starting sounds among siblings, so I would go with the John Jones option over the Keegan/Kevin option.

I like alliteration, but that's just a matter of personal taste I think. I don't think either is weird. Use the name you love!

My DH, DS and I all have the same first and last initials (and it was the same when I had my maiden name). It wasn't intentional. People thought we would give our DD a matching initial but we didn't. Also, my DH and his two brothers all have the same first and last innitial, but again it was more coincidence than my ILs trying to make them match.
ETA: my mom was one of 8 kids and they all had the same innitials, JLS.
