Am i the only one who doesn't get the hype around CFA?

My town is getting one this fall and this thread is making me super excited to try it!!

I have only tried it a few times, but I found the chicken super salty and the waffle fries bland and mushy. There isn't a ton on the menu that I was interested in eating, either. We keep getting free CFA passes (in the mail, through our local baseball membership), but if I'm going to let LO have fast food, we pretty much stick to the small local chains.

I've been veg for many years but back when I ate fast food, I thought Chik-fil-A was gross. My family once stopped at one on a road trip when I had just recovered from a weeklong stomach bug, so it was the first non-toast-and-jello food I'd had in a week, and it still tasted gross. I figured that was about the last nail in the coffin. Then in college all my friends were obsessed with it. So weird. I guess I get the waffle fries.

I don't love the chicken sandwiches but I do love their spicy southwest salad and the breakfast items!! Like many others have said, it's clean and the workers are so nice and my kids loooove to play there. Yes, it's more expensive than other fast food but the food is a step up!!

I went to my first stand alone CFA a couple days ago. We have a couple in mall food courts around here which is where I usually eat it. I have to say, I was pretty impressed by the restaurant vs. a McDonalds or other fast food. The high chairs were all pretty clean, and they provide table covers. This is amazing right now, because I have a baby who's still in the eat finger food and throw plates phase.

The play space seemed reasonably clean, plus they provide purell wipes for afterwards. Oh, and they deliver the food to your table for you. My nuggets were kind of meh, but I enjoy the option of fruit as a side for both myself and for the kids. And I like that I can get an Honest apple juice for DS instead of soda, like some places.

I'm vegetarian and don't eat fast food anyways so... I don't understand the appeal of any of that crap! Plus fried foods make me sick.

I dont think their "meals" are that much more $ than McDonalds meals. Sure you dont have the dollar menu, but if you compare a McDonalds chicken sandwich meal to the price of a Chick-Fil-A meal, its not that much more expensive.

For us the tiny extra $ is worth it due to cleanliness and service.

The meals def seem more expensive to me. At least maybe for the healthier ones, I got the 12 piece grilled nuggets with the super food side and it was more than pick 2 at panera. $11 something. But that being said, I love their grilled nuggets! I am totally turned off on the idea of grilled nuggets (in high school they served the grossest grilled nuggets) but theirs are amazing! And the service is always great at the one by me (they have 2 people manning the drive thru window).

I love it s so much that I make everyone in my family be perfectly quiet while I eat the last bite. I call it CFA meditation. You think I'm kidding...

That being said the family weirds me out. I live close to the CFA compound and the whole thing is super nice but very conservative.

I took my kids there out of desperation Monday and saw another mom friend pulling through as well...lol!

I don't think it is remotely healthy if you get regular fries/sandwich/nugs but I often get the grilled nuggets and fruit and I think that's a totally ok lunch.
In my town we have a dwarf house with a CFA buffet...12 dollars AYCE. Insane.

Love, love, love for several reasons:
    1. I think the food is good - yum!
    2. Drive through is amazingly fast (at least the ones in my town).
    3. Super friendly service
    4. Clean
    5. Very family friendly. They see you walk in with kids and they bring you a high chair, take your food to you, etc. That alone makes me love it.

I like it, DH LOVES it. The food is good, but more importantly EVERYONE likes the food (well, DH and DS1 LOVVVVVE the food). For me, the drinks are the best (crushed ice, in a styrofoam cup so it stays COLD, the diet lemonade OR Diet Dr Pepper, ahhhhhh!), and they have ice cream cones that come with sprinkles, which makes my son go berserk. The play place is awesome, the service is sooooo friendly, its always clean, the bathrooms always have a changing station, and when you need a high chair, you get a disposable placemat for the baby and a Purell wipe. YESSSSS. Worth the added cost of food for those things.

The closest one to us is 30-40 minutes away, so we don't really get to eat there often, so when we do its a treat. And as far as a treat is concerned, I don't mind paying the extra expense.

@PurplePeony: Yeah, the Cathy family is pretty conservative but I can attest individual stores are owner operated. So an owner of the store can have liberal views. I'm friends with a few CFA store operators and they are definitely more liberal and not anti LGBQT. But I do understand that CFA corporate and the Cathy family does get a portion of their store profits. I'm not that close to know what percentage, though. My point is not all CFA store operators are anti-gay.

@lady baltimore: aww, you had a bad batch of waffle fries. They certainly should not be mushy. I've worked at the waffle fry station and they should be thrown out and not served if they are mushy. You should have asked them to get you some fresh ones. Definitely complain next time. You'll see they'll be eager to make you happy.

@bluestriped bee: I've only ever had takeout, so no opportunity to ask for a redo. I think waffle fries are just not for me. The one time I tried to go to a CFA to eat there, the place was packed, and I walked out after a few minutes. The drive-through lines around here always look insane, too. Not worth it to me.

Yeah, I don't get it. I'm also just generally turned off on them though from a moral/social justice standpoint, so that definitely colors my opinion and I only go there if absolutely necessary. The lines are always super long, and I don't go to a fast food place if I have to go inside - at that point I'd rather just go to a regular sit down place.

@catomd00: This is EXACTLY what I was going to say. I've always been kind of "meh" about their food, but then their stance on social issues completely turned me off. In the past 5 years since their record of donating to anti-LGBTQ organizations went public, I have eaten there 2x purely out of desperation. Not worth it to me.

We don't have one nearby so I've never tried it! That said, we don't usually eat fast food so I doubt we would anyway.

@littlebug: @catomd00: I agree with you as well so I usually don't eat it very often. But I do think based on food alone it's really yummy. I just find it more expensive as well. Also, the lines are hit or miss. With the single drive thru lane the lines look insane sometimes and I def don't go those! The one by my work has 2 ordering speakers that are quite a distance back from the window so even if you're backed up there they are so quick it never takes more than 2-3 minutes to get through the whole line up to the front! I think they do 2 people manning the window- one takes payment while the other hands you your food. Crazy how fast they get people through that line.

I have never been to one and never will based on their anti-gay rights political stance.

I totally buy into the hype. But not without reason.

To me, they have the best quality fast food. I like that they use whole chicken breasts, no processed meat. And I like that they have grilled chicken and fruit options that are healthier too.

I grew up eating Chick-fil-A only as a treat when we went to the mall. Then I worked at a Dwarf House (special CFA with more option) as my first job in high school. After working there, I still eat there weekly, and it's still my favorite fast food place. I think that speaks a lot for the quality.

They're not popular in my area due to the politics of the owners, and even if that wasn't an issue for me I wouldn't eat at one anyway because they fry in peanut oil and I'm severely allergic to peanuts. I know refined oils are supposed to be a non-issue, but I'm not willing to knowingly chance it.
