I’m curious about the pros and cons of both. What is/was your preference? If you didn’t get your preference, how did things work out for you?
DD will start kindergarten in the fall. The school currently has AM and PM Kindergarten but they may vote to go all day soon. DH and I work FT so DD will be in on campus 7:30-5 anyway. I don’t know if parents’ preference is given any consideration but I figured I should think about it before her registration appointment this month.

DS is on the wait list at our two preferred schools. One he is on the list for PM and the other AM.
Since he is in daycare 9ish hours a day it doesn't make a big difference. I'd kind of like him to be in PM then he can't nap and this would hopefully help him go to sleep better at night.

I've found kids are often fresher in the morning (teachers, too), so I would lean towards AM. The benefit of PM, though, is that it is often the teacher's second run through of the lesson, so they can make adaptations for things that were not perfect the first go through.

@Corduroy: Former kindergarten teacher here-100% A.M. Kids are much more fresh in the morning, and for a half-day program, that's when the best focus and learning can occur. After lunch and recess kids tend to be quieter/sleepier (some of my kinders even laid down to nap some days!), so A.M. is totally the way to go.

AM. My kindergartener is tired after a morning of half day kindergarten, and absolutely wrecked after school on the days she goes to an an after school enrichment program. I don’t feel she’d be very productive in a PM kindergarten class. So much so that I’ve moved my 3.5 year old to another school for 4’s pre-k next year to guarantee an AM slot, since the current school won’t promise.

I would go AM - I know my kids are brighter and perkier in the morning and I think they'd learn better and pay better attention, and then the afternoon they can relax.

Am for life! My 4yo is a disaster after her morning session and generally naps - pm would be a waste for her and her school even says most of the learning and activities occur in the am session

My son goes to a full day program, but I honestly think he would have done fine in either a morning or afternoon program, assuming he was 5 when he started.

Ours is an all day program, but most of the academic portion is done in the morning. After lunch she tends to do more carpet activities and things to keep them moving/engaged.

I am keeping my kid home for kindergarten primarily because we only have the option of full day and its just too much for her. If we had a morning option I would be much more likely to send her!
When I went to kindergarten I still napped in the afternoons!
