I read somewhere that anterior placentas can lead to "sunny side up"/posterior position babies and difficult labours, and I'm not really sure of the validity of it, and I can't remember where I originally read it!
So, I'm curious... how did your labour go if you had an anterior placenta?

I've had one posterior placenta and one anterior placenta and both babies were positioned properly. However my anterior placenta baby came out with the cord around his neck twice.

I've had one of each (anterior placenta and posterior placenta) and both babies were positioned correctly and had easy labors.

DS1 - posterior placenta and positioned properly.
DS2 - anterior placenta and sunny side up (the entire time)
I had scheduled c-sections both times however (not because of positioning)

Ive ready back through the notes of my first and I had an Anterior Placenta and she was sunny side up. Induction went well though although I had to push for 3 hours, she came out vaginally.

i have no idea about the placentas!
charlie was sunny side up and i ended up having a c-section. it was a hard, fast labor!
olive was 5 weeks early and not sunny side up so she was easy to push out. I even pushed out the placenta at the same time!
i think charlie's size (8 1/2 pounds.. the biggest baby in the labor ward then) and the fact that he was sunny side up had a huge impact on my labor/c-section.

DS #1: anterior placenta, correctly positioned baby, 12 hour labor and delivery, generally easy
DS #2: posterior placenta, transverse baby until 30-34 weeks. Sometime in the third trimester, he flipped. I could feel kicks early on the sides of my belly. We talked about doing a version at one point, but never needed it. Labor and delivery was 8 hours, pretty easy.

Anterior placenta and super easy labor. Only pushed for 20 mins. But like @Truth Bombs: the cord was around her neck.

I've had three anterior placentas, one very difficult labor resulting in c-section (she was posterior), three LGA babies, two repeat c-sections. No cord problems with any of them.

I am happy to hear so many of you had APs with a correctly positioned baby... I was starting to worry it meant I was in for a difficult labour... but looks like it doesn't have that much of a determining factor!

Hmm that's interesting.
Both my placentas were anterior. My first labour, DD was posterior and it was very long and difficult. She only turned posterior during labour though so I don't know if the placenta had anything to do with it.
My second, she was positioned correctly and it was much easier.

I had anterior w/ DD1 and I don't think she was in the wrong position. Labor took long but only b/c I was induced.

@Smurfette: I don't know! Just thought I would point it out since it was the only real "positioning" difference between my anterior placenta baby and my posterior placenta baby.

Interesting! I had an anterior placenta and a sunny side up baby. I pushed for 1.5 hours and I think it would have been shorter if he were correctly positioned.

I don't know if I had an anterior placenta, but DD was sunny side up and it caused my labor to stall. It was ridiculously fast, then just stopped at 7 cm. They tried a bunch of things, then eventually had to give me pitocin. Edited to add that they did say delivery was more difficult because of her position.

@narwhal: I had an anterior placenta and baby was not sunny side up. I'm not sure when he turned but he was in perfect position for birth- 5 pushes and he was out.
Keep in mind even in the middle of labor, babies can turn. So no stress as baby's position can change so quickly...As they say, it ain't over til it's over!

I voted for two: I had an anterior placenta and ended up with a C-section. I was trying for vaginal but she was sunny side up and stuck and I got a fever. They needed to get her out due to risk of infection. They didn't know she was sunny side until I was already pushing (for you know 3 1/2 hours ha)

I don't know what type of placenta I had, but my LO was sunny side up and pushing was terrible! It was 4 long hours but eventually he came out!

I had an anterior placenta and had a sunny side up baby. I never experienced abdominal contractions, only back labor. I was told this was because of his position.
He was also brow/face out.
My water broke in the hospital while I was waiting for an induction. When I stood up I felt his entire body drop, he must've been on a huge bag of water! I think it was then that he got into the wedged position that made the birth difficult. (He was also pretty big!)

DS: Posterior placenta, sunny-side up baby. Very very long back labor, second degree tear on top of an episiotomy.
DD: High, anterior, bi-lobal placenta, planned C-section because she was breech (I had at least a dozen ultrasounds and she never really moved).

My little guy had an anterior placenta. He wasn't sunny side up. But he was mildly asynclitic, which means his head was in the wrong position, which made for a difficult birth.

I had an anterior placenta and baby was sunny side up. Back labour was really uncomfortable, but my midwife used a rebozo and successfully got baby to turn into the correct position. After that, the back labour was significantly better. I only pushed for about an hour?

My oldest had an anterior placenta, it was just more difficult to feel him moving, otherwise uneventful pregnancy. L&D was just your average longer first labor. He did get a bit stuck in my pelvis for a bit and ended up with a big bruise on his head and jaundice for a few days but I don't think that was related as he was born with normal positioning. I did tear and was pretty uncomfortable for a while.
My youngest had a normal placenta position, but was sunny side up until L&D. Every movement he made was extremely painful until I went into labor. He turned just fine and L&D was a breeze compared to his brother. 20 minutes of pushing instead of 3 hours, way easier for me despite the fact that he had his arm by his head and they did a quick and simple vacuum assist and he popped right out with just two minor sutures placed. I would't have torn had he kept his arm down.

I don't know about the placenta but DS was sunny side up.
Labour start to finish was 12 hours with 45 min of pushing.
The worst part was when the doctor tried turning him, I may have screamed.

1st - anterior, sunnyside up, cord wrapped twice around her neck - 12 hour labor after water broke, mostly spent trying to sleep but only took 3 pushes in 15 minutes to get her out
2nd - posterior and correctly positioned - barely got to the hospital in time - she came out before my obgyn got there

My first pregnancy I had an anterior placenta, and had a sunny-side up baby (brow presentation--that was interesting!).
My second pregnancy I had a posterior placenta (correctly positioned), and another sunny-side up baby.
My third pregnancy I had a posterior placenta that eventually abrupted and a correctly positioned baby. She was so much easier to push out!

@Smurfette: @Truth Bombs: incidentally I had my 36-wk appointment yesterday and asked about cords wrapped around the neck--no reason to other than I'm looking for stuff to worry about. the OB told me in her experience about 10% of babies come out that way and almost always it's not a big deal at all. I asked if there were any factors that contributed to it and she said no.

I had two anterior placentas. No idea how DS was positioned, because he was a tiny preemie so it wouldn't have mattered, I imagibe, but I don't think he was sunny side up.
DD my memory is a blur, but if she had been sunny side up I think I would remember that!! Easy birth (for a 9 pounder) although she spent a lot of labor pressing against my public bone which was a very specific kind of unpleasantness. Wow, my comment is useless
