It was a phase for us! She ground her teeth constantly - and it drove me crazy! But she hasn't done it in a long time.

J is one and does this often now that he has 5 teeth. We keep telling him no.

B has done it since her first teeth came in and she still does it at 14 months. It drives us crazy!!

My lo did this when she first got her teeth too! But like some pp's said, it was just a phase.

OMG this grossed me out so much when she did that!! I tried not to react (so hard because it made me mega queasy). eventually she stopped.

Oh I'm so glad most of you said it was just a phase!!
@marionberry: I'm just not so sure she'll make the connection between no and the grinding - like when she touches wires, I make it clear why I'm saying no, but with her teeth, I don't even know if she's aware she's doing it! Has no been working? (Lo is only 9 months)

Yes, LO is the same age and started doing it as soon as his top teeth came in. He rarely does it now, so id say it lasted about a month or so. I didn't do anything to encourage him to stop, I figured at this age he was probably just experimenting with the sensation rather than developing a habit

LO also did this when her top teeth first came in. Thankfully she's kinda stopped doing it. It was SO hard not to react when she did it... it just makes my skin crawl!!

Do your LOs grind their teeth while awake? I don't think my LO does. I do (and fractured 2 teeth before I was smart enough to get a night guard), so I really hope he doesn't!

@Bubbles: yea i'm sure she's experimenting with the sensation - and hey, it beats biting! hopefully it gets old fast, haha.
@annie624: tell me about it! ugh...that sound!
@ballerinabee: she probably does it in her sleep as well, but i've only heard it while she's awake. from what i understand, it's not bad for them like it is for us!

@Pirouette: Oh I hate the teeth grinding! My daughter got her top two teeth about a month ago and is still grinding. Luckily it's just once in a while but it's like nails on a chalkboard! Our pediatrician said it's common and she'll outgrow it.

@Pirouette: Thanks!
I'm sorry you guys all have to deal with the sound; my skin is crawling just thinking about it. Eesh.
