LO1 is 2y10m and has been receiving speech therapy for 7 months. In December he started severely stuttering. The stuttering came with instense eye blinking and body tension which his therapist said is a secondary characteristic of a stutter. Because of how quickly it started, the frequency of his stutter and the intensity of his stuttering, we were referred to a neurologist to have an EEG done. The therapist said stuttering at this age is development but because of everything else I listed above she wants to rule out any underlying neurological issue and our pedi agreed. The EEG is tomorrow. We were told to have him stay up 2 hours past his bedtime and wake up him 2 hours earlier than normal so he’s tired for the EEG. I’m not sure what to expect. Has anyone else gone through this themselves or with their LOs?

My friends daughter had one! She watched a movie and had a bottle and did pretty good she said!
I've be worried about that lack of sleep making my kids be a mess - I doubt they'd nap during it. Does your LO stay still for a movie? Good luck!

Slightly different, but under the same concept my son had to have an EKG and an echo cardiogram around 18 months. He was so confused and overwhelmed by all the machines and the techs that he serious was just completely still with the worst scowl on his face. I agree with @Mrs. Champagne: that I think my son would have been MUCH worse if he was overtired and would have just wanted to be held which was not an option.

I had an EEG done when I was 5 due to epilepsy. I remember staying up really late the night before, and going to the hospital early the next morning. I slept through the whole test (which I'm sure was the reason they had my mom keep me awake all/most of the night). They use a vaseline type of jelly stuff to help adhere the wires to your head, and that stuff is a PITA to get out of hair.

Not quite the same but my son has had EKGs & echocardiograms and had an ABR (hearing test). They wanted him to fall asleep for the ABR and miraculously he did. Totally credit my mom out in the waiting room praying he would sleep!
We didn’t keep him up late or wake him early though. I hope everything goes smoothly for you!

I realized I never followed up and updated this thread with our experience.
We had to do a sleep deprivation EEG and keeping him awake while he was exhausted was tough! They had to tape 25 electrodes to his head for the procedure. I thought he was going to fight them putting everything on, but he was too exhausted to fight it.
His EEG came back with no seizure activity, which is good. It didn’t give us any answers related to his stuttering though, so it looks like we might have to do an MRI as our next step.
