I just started a baby sitting coop in my neighborhood. I have a few friends who have a very successful one in another part of the city. Ours has 8 families, you earn points for doing sits and spend them for sits. I actually haven't used it yet, but others have.

It's not anything official or run by our neighborhood but a friend and I do this. We usually do it the same weekend (so one couple goes out Friday night and the other goes out Saturday night). It works out really well cause we put our LOs to bed before going out so it's basically just watching tv or a movie while the kid sleeps

I would love something like this! The one time we had someone babysit, we just brought my son to our friends' house and we went out early and then picked him up after (they offered to do this). It was good practice for them because they're expecting number two we've offered to watch their son in return but they have family around so prob won't need us.

I have with my neighbors but after the kids are in bed. I've also done it with a friend (again after bedtime). I know of neighborhood-wide babysitting exchanges, but I don't know anyone in one.

@Corduroy: I was just thinking about doing this. How did your swap go? I have kids in elementary school so I think it might run a little different - having all the kids stay in one house and then the parents pick them up after their date. @lawbee11: How old are your kids? I'm trying to think of how to work this out with elementary kids.
@mrschickpea: I'd love to hear about how your swap works. Are there certain rules? Do you go out early or late?
