Thea was 6 weeks yesterday. We hit the 6-week growth spurt a few days early...she was fussy and eating pretty frequently Friday and Saturday, and then Saturday night she ate every hour from about 2AM on. I was exhausted!
But then...Sunday night she started the night with a 5 hour stretch! Up until then the longest we'd ever gone was 4 hours, and it was a bit of a fluke- usually it was every 2 1/2 or 3 hours.
I figured we'd be back to normal last night- but she slept from 10 to 3, and then from about 4:00 until 7AM. It was awesome!
She is smiling at us (definitely social smiles), but only in the mornings when she first wakes up. Sometimes I can get one after a good nap, but she definitely has to be in the right mood. This has been going on since Sunday, so I'm looking forward to it becoming more regular!
Breastfeeding is going well. She was about 9 1/2 pounds a week ago (according to an at-home scale). She has her 6-week visit (with vaccinations! yikes!) on Thursday, so we'll get an official weigh-in then.

Anna turned 8 weeks yesterday! She is for sure going through changes. She has also been giving social smiles but on her terms not ours lol
She weighed 10lbs and was 22inches at her 6 weeks check up. We go next week for shots 
She has been consistently sleeping 6 to 8 hr stretches at night. Last night she fell asleep around 7:30pm and woke up at 1:30am to eat then slept from roughly 2:30am to 6:45am when we all got up for the day.
She isn't consistent on day sleeping but that's ok. She's becoming more interested in objects now so her bouncer is something she enjoys more as well as her mobiles.
I just can't believe how fast time is going and how big she is already! She is already wearing 3 to 6 month clothes!!!

What a great sleeper! Are you breastfeeding?
It is so funny how different babies are built. T is about 10 lbs and in 0-3, and even some NB still. Gap clothes are particularly big on her, I have like 4 0-3 m. sleepers from them that re still very baggy on her.
We ere team green and I went a little bananas with buying clothes after she was born, but got mostly 3-6 m sizes... I hope she can wear them soon!
Isn't it fun watching them learn how to smile!? What a process!

@Pumpkinspice: my friend showed me this TED talk about language acquisition. its fascinating, and the way they learn new words is just like learning to smile... little bits at a time, getting closer and closer until its suddenly there!

Yay for this post! Wheh I was feeding E at 4am, I was thinking we needed an April board!
E was 8 weeks on Friday and we go in for vaccinations a week from today. She's super easy going and chill, except sometimes she gets gas while she eats and all heck breaks loose. Otherwise, she's so mellow. And getting on a schedule-I go to the gym every morning and she's ready to nap right when we get there! She goes down at 9pm and eats around 330 or 4, then gets up around 630, its fantastic as long as I go to bed at 9, too!
I'm definitely getting out and about more now that she's older. I'm less scared now that I know her temperament more.
So how's everyone feeling?

I'm feeling pretty good. I'm jealous that you've been going to the gym! I just got fitted for bras today, so I'm going to get out to the outlets for some sports bras/work out clothes that fit. I've been going for long walks, but none of my old bras/running shorts fit right now so I haven't been able to run. I'm hoping to do that tomorrow!
I adventured out for some errands alone today (my husband was able to stay home for 8 weeks, so usually we go together). We got some stuff done- she had a melt-down in the bra store, but they gave me a nursing room to feed her in. Its challenging to navigate places with the stroller! I wore her for part of the time, but still had the stroller to help carry things!

Thanks @Silva for starting this post! I'd been meaning to start a similar thread but somehow haven't gotten around to it....someone's been occupying a lot of my time!
DD will be 6 weeks tomorrow and boy is the 6 week growth spurt a lot of fun *sarcasm*. She has pretty much never woken up more than once in the night to eat, and for the last two weeks she'd been in a really good routine of sleeping from 10 until 5...until the last few nights when she started waking at 3, and then last night when she woke at 2 and again at 4:15. Ugh. Add to that the non-stop crying all evening and it's been a little tough. It's reassuring though know that this is a normal thing and (hopefully) won't last forever!
She started social smiling at 4 weeks and is quite a ham for the camera. It's super adorable. She's also been cooing for a couple weeks now and it's fun to hear her "talk."
Nursing is going well now after some major challenges at the beginning. The severe cracks I had are healing and nursing is no longer painful. Feedings still take about an hour, but I hear this will improve with time. I've found amazing support in my community for BFing and owe all my success to those who have helped me. DD is a slow but steady gainer, and everyone is happy with her progress (she's up a little less than 2 lbs from her weight when we left the hospital).
We try to do outings every day and I'm so happy we can now add long daily walks back into the mix since I've officially been cleared for post-c-section activity. Haven't started back at crossfit yet, but that's more because I can't quite figure out the scheduling yet.
So excited that we get to check in with one another again!

@Silva, i started wearing E to the grocery store and it is SO MUCH EASIER to go places that way. As long as I don't have to try clothes on, lol. I had a lot of success at Lane Bryant for sports bras and regular non-wire (but non-nursing) bras. And they weren't crazy expensive. Their convertible sports bra is really comfy and has padding so you don't nip through. It's very full coverage, so I feel contained and there's no bounce. It's almost a stiffer bra, but I like that right now. I guess structured is more the word. It's not one of those loosey goosey cotton style ones that you can stretch out.
Yay for you starting to run! I'm doing barre for 2 more weeks, then I'm shifting back into Crossfit. I'm skurd, but I am SO READY to have my body back. I feel weak and flabby and greatly dislike all this extra "me" hanging around, lol. Having a daily routine has done SO much for me. I just like the predictability of "this is when we do this, this is when I do that" etc.
@pumpkinspice, she is SO adorable!!!! So stinking cute!

@hergreenapples: our six week growth spurt lasted about 2 days. The last night of it she was up every hour from 3 am until 9 am. It was brutal. We still don't have a routine, which is tough for me. But the past two nights (post growth spurt) her night time sleep has been more predictable, so I'm crossing my fingers that it stays that way. I'd love some predictability!
@blackbird: the post partum body is tough. I'm really ready to be active again, too. I've missed running!

Harriet is growing so much.. At her last weigh she was 11lb and 23in. I can't believe she is almost 9 weeks.Where has the time gone? Luckily she is a pretty easy going baby. She is full of smiles and loves a chat. Making her smile is the highlight of my day We've got half way to rolling over but can't flip herself over all the way yet. Her sleep is good. We usually get at least a 6 hour stretch (10 - 4 normally) but she has been starting to push to 7 lately. Am so grateful for more sleep! H is good at putting herself to sleep with I am so thankful for, no hours of rocking. It took us awhile to get breastfeeding under control, she had a tongue and lip tie so it wasn't until we got them snipped at 6wks it got easier. Now we are pros haha
@hergreenapples: the 6wk growth spurt was our hardest week but once we got through it things got a whole lot easier and more fun. She started smiling and talking heaps more afterwards.
@Pumpkinspice: She's so lovely! And sounds like she's doing great
@blackbird: I hear you on wanting to have your body back. my pp body depresses me. I had to buy a size of pants I've never bought before and even they are tight around the waist. I am exercising and back at weight watchers so hopefully it won't be long before I feel a bit more normal. Just wish it happened quicker! haha

@Silva: I didn't even try for a routine before 6wks and it just kinda of emerged on it's own after then. It's still slightly different everyday but I have some kinda idea of whats going to happen now. haha Hopefully the same with happen with Thea

@Silva: You are so lucky having hub home for so long. DH had a month off and I thought that was great. I won't lie... first day home by ourselves I just aimed for everyone to be alive at the end of the day but it went quite well. Somedays I am really ready for him to come home tho. haha

I can't believe I missed this post!!!
M is now 7 weeks old and on Thursday she was 12 lbs and 25 inches. She's a tall girl!!! She sleeps really well at night, usually 10:30-4 and then back down pretty much right away until 7-7:30. I am well rested at night but she's not sleeping very well during the day which is frustrating. I have to leave the house with the stroller or the car to get her to sleep!!! Hoping that changes soon because it makes for a tired mama!!
She's smiling socially now, probably has been for about a week and a half. You can tell she's trying to get a laugh out too, I am so excited for that. She's also started to notice things a lot more so will play on her activity mat, and I dangle toys in front of her face sometimes too.
How often do you guys give your LO a bath? We were doing twice a week but we are moving to every second day now, only using soap every other bath!

We do a bath every evening because she has eczema and spits up so much-it aggravates her skin and makes her sticky and smell bad

@AprilFool: he is starting his residency in pediatrics... We had pretty perfect timing with her birth, he finished med school the day she was born (well, he had a week left, but they gave him that off!). It has been wonderful to have him home, but we are all going to miss each other a lot!
@sslm: we do bath about twice a week. We wash her face/neck at night as part of bedtime.

Where is M sleeping during the day? I was having no luck with naps until I put her in her wombie and in the crib. The first few days were still short naps while she adjusted but now we're good. She slept for 3 hours in there the other day and I didn't know what to do with myself.
@Silva: That is perfect timing! I really miss DH during the day too, it's very easy to get used to having them around. Will be nice for you to have a pedi in the house tho.

Hi! M is almost 7 weeks...time flies. She sleeps a lot during the day and ok at night. She sleeps 4-7 hours at night but nothing consistent yet!
Pumping and breast feeding are going well but she is a slow eater...I hope she can pick up the pace soon!
I need to get serious about working out because I want to buy some new jeans!

@AprilFool: she had been napping in her swing (survival mode, right?) but we were trying to get her to nap in her crib with no success. Yesterday I tried swaddling her (we had only been doing that at night, not sure why) and I got a 3 hour nap out of her! I was also beside myself, didn't know what to do haha! We will see if it happens again...
@autumnlove: I hear ya on the new jeans... Right now I have a jean skirt and 2 pairs of maternity capris (under belly, no panel) that I am rotating. I need new jeans but I plan to lose weight quickly (don't we all!!!), so I'm hesitant to spend much money. At the same time, I hate that I'm still wearing maternity pants!!!!!!

How did I miss this till today?!
B is 8 weeks old and at his last appt was 9 lbs 15 ounces and 22 inches! I know he has grown so much since then too- I am looking forward to his 2 months appt next week to get his updated stats!
B has been sleeping through the night since about 4 weeks old- he goes down around 830/930 and is up around 4/5. We are pretty thankful, although I get up at 1:30/2 to pump. B isn't a great sleeper during the day unless its on me, so we are working on that!
Breastfeeding has been going really well and since I have been pumping in the middle of the night I have a pretty good freezer stash gong on!
B is definitely starting to smile and "talk" more to us! I love our conversations and he is so cute with his gummy smile.
B takes a tubby everyday ( usually before his bedtime) as I want to get him used to a bedtime routine- and I think it's one of his favorite times of day- he loves being in his tub and especially having his hair/head washed!
I started exercising at about 4 weeks and have been doing pretty good- I am looking for something new to add to my workout (since dance classes are over for the summer) also I am joining weight watchers this week and hoping to find a meeting that has some other moms in it- maybe I can meet a mommy friend!

@sslm: it's amazing how much the swaddle helps for naps. We no longer swaddle at night, she's just in a sleep sack but it's still a must for naps!
my Saturday is probably your Friday so that will work out nicely!
@autumnlove: Argh new jeans. I bit the bullet the other day and it wasn't pretty but I have to wear something. I have one pair of maternity jeans that are too big and another pair that is too small and none of my regular pants fit.

Good for all of you doing w.w.! I've heard they are the best way to go. I went running yesterday for the first time. It was rough! So discouraging to have to start all over with training. I have 20 lbs to lose to get to my ideal weight. Ugh!
Does anyone else co-bed? We do, and love it. But T goes to sleep when I do, because I nurse her down. She won't nap by herself either. It doesn't bother me now, she is young and I can wear her to et stuff done. I'm just trying to figure out when to start working on it. Maybe 12 weeks (end of the "4th trimester"?)

I had to run to first base in softball last night and i almost got thrown out from CENTER FIELD. I was SO SLOW, lol. So embarrassing!!!
@Silva, we co-bedded for about a month and then moved her to a rock-n-play next to the bed. It was GREAT when she got up more often during the night and fussed more, but now she only gets up once a night and is quiet 99% of the time. So DH and I took our bed back But if she wakes up at 530 or so and it's not time for me to get up, i'll grab her and put her in bed with me and then she dozes back off easily.
We met with the ped yesterday and she wants us to start a daytime routine of 2 hours awake, 2 hours asleep, and work on getting her some more naps consistently. She's been pretty unpredictable and having too many meltdowns. She just needs more of a routine.
She also got diagnosed with reflux so we started Zantac. I hope it helps. She's had way too many hysterical meals.

@blackbird: I ran two days ago and can still barely walk. My husband keeps making fun of my hobble. Hopefully a walk today will stretch me out....getting back in shape sucks.
I got the no-cry nap solution on my kindle yesterday. I think I'm going to work on naps first because we are all pretty happy with nighttime sleep. Guess that means I have to take all the stuff I've been "storing" in the crib out! If I can get her to take just one nap alone it will be a major victory!
Yesterday her poops were neon green. After some research I think it was too much fore milk. Poor thing got a nasty rash from them, too, because they were very frequent. I am now trying to get her to stay just on one breast. We were probably switching too much before because she gets impatient with the slow let down on my left side.
She has been a bit fussy these past few days. Nothing abnormal for babies...but abnormal for her! I swear she only cried a few times until recently. Last night she screamed for ever until I finally got some burps out!

A goes in for her 2 month check up and first round of shots on Friday. I'm anxious to see how much she weighs now and how long she is because she is in almost all 3 to 6 month sized clothes already!! The shots I am not excited about. Her one big sister has to get a shot as well so it'll be a fun filled office visit for us lol
As most of you probably saw from my last post, A put herself to sleep last night in her crib and then slept 7hrs straight! We are very excited about that. She isn't napping all that great but I'll take the night sleep over that any day.

@silva, Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child was *highly* recommended to me for babies who sleep good at night but need more daytime sleep. I haven't been doing anything during the day b/c i'm scared to mess up her nighttime sleep! Once her reflux is a little better, I'm going to start putting her down for naps in her crib, too. Right now she's on her boppy in the PnP. She has to be elevated for now. It's funny--I got three books on sleep and my kid sleeps GREAT at night! But ugh, daytime.

@Pumpkinspice: What a great night of sleep! T's shots weren't too bad. She freaked out, but dad was able to soothe her by swaddling/swinging/shushing, and then I nursed her for a bit. She passed out and slept A TON, and was then fussy for about 2 hours. But once she napped again she woke up smiley and fine. We bought children's tylenol and planned to give it to her if she had a fever or was totally inconsolable, but ended up not needing it.
@blackbird: I'm kind of having a day of guilt/worry/negative self talk. I just bounced/swaddled her for like 20 minutes and she won't fall asleep. She did lie by herself quietly on the bed for maybe 15 minutes. Now she is in the swing, just staring and cooing occasionally. I know she's tired- she has only taken about a 45 minute nap since 9:30 this morning! I tried wearing her and she was still wide awake. I guess we are going to go for a walk now.
I just feel like I have absolutely no idea what I"m doing, and its starting to negatively affect her. We have been doing okay with going with the flow, but now I'm worried she is really now sleeping enough and is having a hard time because of it. I feel like I should have tried harder earlier on, rather than being so relaxed about letting her sleep whenever/wherever.
I think I'm also freaking out because we're going to be alone starting on Friday. I just don't know how I"ll get anything done. I know most moms have to deal with this much earlier than I do- but I've gotten so used to having my husband around to help cook/clean/hold babe! I just feel like I"m going to be a total failure at this! I've been feeling fairly confident so far- but today lots of insecurities are hitting me all at once!

@Silva: I know how you feel, I feel like a clueless failure a lot of days!!! You are an awesome mom and your little T is so lucky to have you. Just keep following your instincts!!! As for the sleep, I just decided after a very fussy/overtired weekend that I was implementing a 2 hours awake only policy. After two hours I do whatever it takes to get her to sleep, stroller, car, whatever. This week has been so amazing since I started this! She's easier to get down at night and is less fussy. Maybe try something like that?

I also don't know how to "put a baby to sleep"...she's either tired or not and I haven't had much success with anything during the day. Putting her down wide awake just means she tends to play there...but if she's happy, not sure I can force it. I do swaddle her and hope she associates that. We don't have to swaddle wean for daycare since we are using an in home place
The fact that I'm antsy and bored around the house doesn't help because I get out and do stuff and that makes training her hard.
Don't feel bad! They have to be taught these things. And they are awful tough to communicate with lol

@Silva: You are an amazing mum and its easy to forget that we're learning just like them. There's no manual! Just today I looked at H and said I have no idea how to make you happy today. haha
So how I put H down, when I notice she is tired I just put her in the cot, swaddle and give her her paci. She only takes a paci for sleep so it's a big clue she is ready. Sometimes she takes it straight away, other times she wants to play a little. Whenever I hear her cry out I go back in and give her the paci. If on the first cry after leaving she won't take the paci I know she's not ready to sleep and get her back up for a bit before trying again. Sometimes I give her the paci once... sometimes it take 3 or 4 goes. I just go in as many times as it takes.
The first time she napped in her cot it lasted about 20 mins. The next was an hour and now she can go for 2 -3. But then we have days like today where she is tired but refuses to sleep and just grins at me when I come in! Cheeky girl
@sslm: I've really noticed the max awake times. Sticking to that 2 hours really helps with keeping her happy. This is really where I have noticed a routine happening.

@sslm: why did I not think to put B in a swaddle for his naps!! I am going to try that tomorrow and hope that it helps a bit. He is such a good nighttime sleeper but a terrible daytime sleeper!
@blackbird: 2 hour max awake times...... Yikes, B goes way longer than that and if he does sleep it's for like 15 minutes! I think I need to get that book you mentioned, maybe it will teach me what to do.
I kinda feel like up till this point I could just fudge my way through what to do to take care of B, but maybe now I need to get more serious about what I am doing (no long daytime naps) so we don't set up bad habits! What are you. All reading that is helping you "know what to do"

@cheert16, E, too! She can go 5 hours during the day and the ped was like, "yeah...no, that's crazy at that age".
Honestly, our ped brought her sleep up at yesterday's 8 week appt. Otherwise, I'd still be doing what I'm doing! Dh thinks "sleep begets sleep"...we shall see.
