I would not put a 2 1/2 month old in umbrella stroller. I'd wait till at least a year. Can't you use a snap and go system?

We have a Maclaren Techno XT and it can be used from birth because it reclines flat.

I would also not use a regular umbrella stroller for a 2.5 month old. I would get one that reclines flat--if you plan to do a lot of traveling, it will be worth it anyway. see if you can find one used.

We started to use our Maclaren Quest at 8 months or so. An Umbrella stroller with the option to click in a carseat (bucket seat) might a good fit for your needs.

@Astro Bee: maybe look for a used one? Ours is 4+ years old now and still on great shape and it has traveled a ton. It was our full time stroller for DS and is now our dedicated travel stroller.

@Astro Bee: yeah it is pricey. We completely lucked out and got the floor model at bbb, plus the coupon. But even if we had paid full price I think it's worth it. It's so easy to travel with and takes up no space in the car. Plus I like that when we have two, we can switch between putting the baby in the car seat in it and having the toddler walk, or wearing the baby in a carrier and having the toddler in the regular seat. We walk a ton even on vacation so I didn't want a cheap stroller I hated.

i would just baby wear for this particular trip. i wouldn't want to look for something that was appropriate for 2.5 months even if you're using it later on. 2.5 months: we just used our boba 3g and it was comfortable for me all day long.

@Astro Bee: Are you near a bed bath and beyond? they can order all the buy buy baby stuff (in Canada) and they take the in store coupons. Bonus if you make a registry and put it on it before buying it, they ship it to your for free!

Where are you going overseas? Maybe you can rent a stroller when you get there?

We're looking at taking our LO to Australia and when I was looking in to it I found you can't use foreign carseats there. You can rent car seats and strollers which might be our best option.

@Astro Bee: Even if the infant can hold their head up and you're not worried about it flipping forward, there is also concern about going over terrain that is not completely flat and the baby's head being jostled from side to side. This could injure the neck as well.

What about the Chicco KeyFit Caddy to hold you car seat it's like a snap n go and but is especially made to hold the Keyfit. I think it runs around a $100 and you should be able to use a coupon at Buy Buy Baby or Babies R US. It's fairly lightweight but has a generous basket. The can also be easily re-Sold on Craigs List.

I wouldn't put a newborn in an umbrella stroller. They're not strong enough to sit at that kind of incline. If you want a baby that small to be portable, I would suggest a wrap.

@Astro Bee: I don't think you will regret it! Ours is so convenient and I love that I can use it right away for our next baby too. Keep your receipt though- we have a small issue with a screw that keeps coming loose but I don't think I'll be able to have them fix it since I lost all proof of purchase. No big deal though. It really is great!

@Happygal: the mesh backing had never bothered me. The sunshade really isn't great- our regular stroller is an ubv and im spoiled with that one. We have mostly used it in warm climates so I saw the mesh letting a breeze through as a plus. I also like handle bar vs two handles so you can push with one hand if needed.
