Congrats! I do think having sibling names that are only one letter different from each other would create a lot of confusion and logistical problems later on.

I love Luca, but I do think they are too similar. Ana Lucia is pretty!

I think they're too similar, sorry. But I agree that Ana Lucia is lovely. My BIL is named John Paul and no one calls him John because his parents have always called him John Paul and that's just been the way it is. I think it would be the same with Ana Lucia if you called her that every single time.

I think that on their own, Luca and Lucia are too matchy. I do love the name Ana Lucia, and I know several kids who have a double first name and are called by that name.

Like @Pancakes: said, I think it definitely depends on how you pronounce it. In Italian I think it would be pronounced "Loo-chee-ah" because, if I remember correctly, the "i" makes the "c" make the "ch" sound. Which I think is a little too matchy to Luca. I also agree with pancakes if you pronounce it "Loo-sha" like the island, it's also a little matchy. But I don't think "Loo-see-ah" sounds too matchy, with the "s" sound, as opposed to Luca's hard "c".

So I guess my answer depends. How do you pronounce it?

I think Lucia is too close to Luca, but I love Ana Lucia and I know several people who have 2 names and go by both.

I loved Aurelia, but it was way too similar to my first daughter's name in sound. Lucia and Luca are even closer. Isn't it funny how we gravitate towards sounds like the first name that we really liked? Makes you know that you picked correctly the first time around, though!

Love Ana Lucia! Maybe Luisa instead if you're into Spanish names and think Lucia is too similar? I don't think it is if she goes by both. Also I'm biased; have a DD named Luisa!

@missifu: Lost is the first thing I thought of when I read that! It didn't even occur to me that there could be another pronunciation until I read the comments. I think just Lucia is too similar, but (the vast majority of) people will call LO what you/she wants. DH has a cousin named Laura Ray, and she was called that until she got old enough to request that people just call her Laura.

I know a child whose parents started calling her by her first and middle name, "Mary Kate", or "MK" from birth. Now that she's older I notice they just call her Mary, but I still think of her by the long version. You can definitely get people to do it if you stick with it from the beginning.
