I wish this was an option for us, but we don't have a car!
Are you a member of Sam's Club or Costco? How do you like it?

Yes! We are Costco members, and I probably always will be. Love it there!

No but we have thought about it several times...we just don't know if it's worth it or not, since we have never really been to either.

Costco- we're there every 7-10 days. It's the best!!
@oliviaoblivia: which Costco do you go to? My sister just got a membership but said the one is Scarborough sucked to get to.

We're members of both LOL We bought our membership to Costco, and were gifted the membership to Sams Club. I like both of them; I prefer Costco for food and Sams Club for non food items such as toiletries, cleaners, etc.

We belong to Costco. Honestly we don't buy much there other than laundry detergent (Ecos), some other household stuff, and cases of Perrier (we drink that stuff like crazy). I think our membership will get more use once we have more than two people in our household.

@prettylizy: she's right! When I go with DH we alternate between Scarborough and the yorkdale mall one. They sell different stuff so it depends on what we feel like. The Scarborough one has more Asian stuff and the yorkdale one has more Jewish stuff.
Sometimes DH will go to one by his office in Mississauga. It makes me nervous when he goes by himself though.....it's easy to spend $400 without realizing it.

Costco! Which is very awesome. Although super dangerous. You go for one thing and come out with like... 20.

We aren't. I'm sure we will be when there is more than just the two of us.

We used to belong to Costco, before we had kids. I'm not sure it was really worth it then; we lived in a small house and didn't necessarily have room to store three dozen paper towel rolls or four boxes of cereal that we weren't using.
Now that we are in a bigger house and have kids, I think it would be totally worth it. But now we hardly have time to go (and the thought of going with our two-year-old just sounds exhausting).

Costco member, we only buy non perishable items. There's no way for DH and I to finish the bulk food they sell. It's cheap but it always goes bad. I love Costco, I go twice a month.

Love me some Costco! The only thing I hate about them is the parking at our Costco sucks something fierce. On any random week day you'd think the entire area was stocking up for the apocalypse.

If we had a bigger home, I would consider joining. As it is now, we don't have much space for regular amounts of items.

Costco. Love it! For what it's worth, I did a LOT of calling around when I went on Crinone (progesterone), since it was expensive and not covered by insurance, and it was by far the cheapest at Costco!

@mrbee: I know a lot of brooklynites who have a costco membership and cab it back home. There is a costco in Sunset Park right off the BQE

We're Sam's members through my work (family ministry). We don't use it personally very often... we totally should though!

We don't have a Costco membership, but my in-laws do and they always give us a heads up when they're going so we can tag along. We need to get our own membership so that I can buy and divide larger quantities of meat - our multiple grocery store trips are what kills our budget!

Obsessed with Costco! We go every week or every other week. One bad thing is that you can rarely walk out of there without spending $100+.
Does anyone have the Costo credit card that has cash back benefits? We keep holding off (not wanting another credit card), but considering how much we spend there, I'm wondering if it would be beneficial. Any thoughts??

@Meridian: YES! We use it as our main credit card, and it WAY more than covers itself. Just went this weekend and cashed that check, and there was plenty leftover after paying for our cart-full. (Yeah, we went in for just a couple of things...)

Costco. We go 1-2 times a month. I love the huge bags of quinoa for like $8. And toilet paper, lol. We also buy our meat there, portion it out and freeze it. And canned goods I use a lot like black beans, chick peas and diced tomatoes. And milk, I drink a ton of milk.

@JessiBee: Ooh, good to know... do you mind sharing what the annual fee is? Currently our main credit card is one that collects AA miles, so not sure if this would ever be our main one.

@mrbee: We live in NYC and don't have a car, but we're still Costco members! There are two ways we go: we go to the one in East Harlem and take a cab back (they run a cab dispatch, it's VERY reasonably priced- I think the fare to Washington Heights is $14), or I go with work colleagues over lunch break (they drive) and schlep stuff home from there.

i used to be a BJ's member when I lived in NJ/Philadelphia. But now that I'm in dallas, I'm stuck with Sam's club because 1. i havent seen a bj's and 2. the costco is incredibly far from.
Not too crazy about sams club (versus bj's), but it has the things i need so im not too picky.

@thepinksuperhero: Interesting!!
How do you guys deal with car seats?

@mrbee: Also, depending where you are in Brooklyn, check how far the Costco in Long Island City is from you. Although that one is not ultra close to a subway stop for the trip there.

@Meridian: I think it's about $50? I remember when we signed up, they said if the cash back didn't cover the fee, they'd refund it or something. Hasn't been a problem!

Unfortunately, Sam's.
Sam's is 5mins away and Costco is a 30 min drive. So, for us that was the reasoning.
I have been to Costco as a guest with some family members and it amazing in comparison to Sam's.
