I am happy with our house being our forver home. But I think we may move once more before settling somewhere permanently.
But we like the town and distance from major metro center (about an hour away)

No. We are renting because we just moved back to the U.S. after a long time abriad and didn't want to jump into any big lifestyle (apartment vs. House; city vs suburbs) by buying straight away. We might be in our forever neighborhood though! I hope to be in our forever home with remodeling finished in 3-5 years
pear / 1930 posts
Maybe? I love my house but OH is partially disabled and a two story may prove too much for him in 20 years. We want to stay here as long as possible, at least until retirement.

I think so, there are certain things that could make us entertain the idea of moving but I can easily see us staying in this house forever.
persimmon / 1096 posts
No way. It's a big, beautiful old Victorian. I love love love the house but sort of hate the area, so we will be here until DH fulfills his job commitment (another 2.5 years) and then hopefully he will find another job back in our hometown or an area where we'd like to live. I will be sad to say good bye to the house, but excited to blow the popsicle stand that is this town
honeydew / 7622 posts
Probably not. But I would be open to the idea. There is a major highway two blocks down that brings a lot of traffic and there is a bypass going thru next year. The reduced traffic will liven up our downtown area. I love our house and walkable neighborhood. But we have always talked about property and a custom build, only time will tell

No! We've been searching for our forever home for 4 months and just can't find it. So frustrating because we've been looking forward to it forever!
grapefruit / 4988 posts
Probably not. We are in a small 2 bedroom in the city and already have one LO and plan to have another. We are ok now and plan to stay a few more years but I think we will eventually want more space.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
I's possible, but I've always wanted to be a bit more remote. We have a big lot but not a lot of privacy and a busy street is visible from our backyard (and loud). The house itself meets all our physical and financial needs and is in one of the best school districts in the state. I think it's the perfect house to raise a family but i would eventually like a house on a farm or in the woods further from busy streets.
persimmon / 1183 posts
Not even close. We're living with my family atm (renting) and stuck here due to unforeseen circumstances until baby comes along and we're out of space.
We'll probably move once to a "starting" home, and then possibly once more into a forever home.

I don't really believe in forever homes, but this will be our home until LO goes to college (that's the plan, at least!). Then we'll downsize back to something smaller and probably just one level. We won't need all this space once it's just the 2 of us!
kiwi / 557 posts
Absolutely. We just purchased a few months back with the intention of it being our forever home (which is good because I moving sucks).
pomegranate / 3275 posts
NO! We had to go house hunting the weekend before Christmas and find a house that weekend. We ended up with our third choice. It is a lovely home, but I just don't love it. I don't want to stay here forever (and we know we won't!)
pomelo / 5524 posts
Yes! We are definitely comfortable here and feel that this is our forever home!
grapefruit / 4355 posts
Probably not. We plan to upgrade at some point, but we did purposely buy a house that, if situations change and we are never able to move, is big enough that it could be our forever home.
pomelo / 5678 posts
I don't think I believe in that. What does that really mean? A place you'll stay until your kids go to college (or ?), or a place you want to spend the rest of your life or die in? Or until a nursing home? Sorry, slightly warm wet blanket. Or just a place you are REALLY content with?
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@catlady: same here. We are in a two bed in the city. Will need more space once we have a second and will prob end up in the suburbs...
persimmon / 1304 posts
Nope, but it's perfect for us for the time being. We will probably move within our town in the next 7-8 years.
pomegranate / 3768 posts
No, it's the perfect house for us right now but it's not our forever home.
nectarine / 2192 posts
Almost. We recently bought a farm and are renovating the house on it. Once we finish and move in, we will be in our forever home. It's such a happy thought.
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
We don't know but I don't think I want a forever home. We think we're going to have a house that we raise our kids in and then when they leave for college we're going to sell whatever house we have and get a condo in the city for me and DH.
Sometimes we think we could stay here forever and just use our money to take nice vacations, send the kids to a great private school, and have DH retire early. Or we could move to a better school district when the kids are a bit older but those houses are quite a bit more.

We thought we were when we bought it 3 years ago... but property values have skyrocketed and there are a couple of big things we are not happy with - traffic in our neighborhood and the bedroom arrangement in the house. So we might sell this summer to cash in, assuming we can find something else we love for a bit less.
nectarine / 2784 posts
I don't know about forever, but probably most if not all of the life of the mortgage.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
Not even a little bit. We're hoping to move by this summer.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
Not retiring here, but we'll be here for the long term!
persimmon / 1355 posts
Am I the only one freaked out by the thought of a forever home? We theoretically could stay in our house for a long time, and I love our house. The thought of being that settled gives me anxiety though. I have never ending wanderlust.
pineapple / 12526 posts
Nooooo. We didn't even buy our house, we inherited it. So yeah... it works for now, but it's not what I would have chosen.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
I'm not sure. Maybe not forever but at least until LO goes to college!
pineapple / 12234 posts
Maybe??
We could stay here if we had to but we'd need to do some upgrades. I don't know if want to stay forever though. We love our house but the city we live in isn't our dream area.
honeydew / 7444 posts
It'll be our home for at least the next 10 years. Part of the reason we bought this home is because of its super close proximity to the school we want our kids to attend.
pineapple / 12566 posts
No. We aren't even in our forever country! I don't think we will ever have a forever home.
clementine / 854 posts
I hope so! We bought our house in the hopes it would be our forever home. If anything, we may move when we're old and don't want the responsibility of a house.
grapefruit / 4089 posts
Nope! We aren't even in our forever location... we are going to move further up north as soon as it becomes feasible.
ETA: We plan on buying land and building our forever home, but that's a very distant reality at this point
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
Probably not. We plan to be here for a long while and are definitely making it as comfortable & beautiful as we can.
After living together (and in this house) for three years we realize more so of what kind of home we need.
