If so, have you done anything to try to prevent them from having a severe allergy?
For example, staying away from peanut butter or nuts, if peanut or nut allergy runs in the family?
What else have you done?

I have never really thought about it because neither of us are allergic to anything or even have any family memebers (that we know of) with severe allergies... However DH's stepmom was and still is concerned about our children having egg and peanut allergies because she does and "things like that can happen".

Neither of us have allergies, so I'm not worried about my LO having them.

@cyndistar3: I was talking to my coworker and she was telling me that her son is allergic to eggs, milk, gluten and few others. Luckily, it's not too severe but I was in shock when I heard what he was allergic to. Her and her husband isn't allergic to any of them. It's just scary to think about.

@bluestriped bee: Oh my goodness! I couldn't imagine having to deal with all of those, that is a lot to be allergic to

I'm not really avoiding any foods, but I do worry about her having allergies. I really hope she doesn't have allergies to animals. My parents, his parents, and we all have animals. My best friend in highschoo l was allergic to cats, and we had a cat at our house. Anytime she came over, she was miserable. I'd hate for our LO to not be able to have pets as she grows up.

@jennylynn: Oh, I almost forgot about pet allergies. That would suck if we had to give our dog up for adoption. It's sad thinking about it.

Oh yea, I forgot about that part of things... I am really allergic to cats and I really hope our children aren't because DH is very attatched to his kitty. So far our daughter seems fine but who knows and then don't get me started on seasonal allergies!!! I REALLY hope they don't get those

I wasn't worried until we found out that LO has eczema. I have really bad environmental allergies so now I worry her eczema is because of me.

I don't really have allergies (except for cat hair) but DH has eczema and asthma. I'm worried LO will have it as well. As for foods, I've just been trying to eat a variety of things so hopefully he won't be allergic! No food allergies in both families though!

I pretty much knew my son would inhert my husband's allergies. He is very fortunate that he doesn't have any food allergies other than very mild reactions but he does have pretty severe envrionmental allergies (including pets). So far my son is showing signs that he has very similar allergies and it is just something we'll have to manage. He gets claritin every day and has since he was 6 months old. He also gets his sinuses irrigated (think neti pot on a baby) twice a day. He had tubes placed in his ears at 8 months due to the number of ear infections he got because his sinuses were always so full. There wasn't anything we could do to prevent it to my knowledge. With regard to our pets, we are not going to get rid of the dogs as he can build up a tolerance to them as my husband has.
