@MrsADS: ugh- what timing! Hope he does better today and DH gives you a chance to rest tomorrow.

@MrsADS: ugh that's the worst!! and not fun that you're all alone with him today have you thought about him maybe being overly sensitive to stimulation? What if you did an experiment and just kept everything VERY chill and low key all day during his awake times? Low lighting, soft music. No real playtime, just sit and chat with him. Maybe he would find it easier to then sleep. Could be worth a shot??

@MrsADS: I think you might have to hire a sleep specialist. They are expensive, but will figure out the problem, and have a solution.

We had date night, got home and P was up right on schedule for her midnight feed. Then woke early at 2:30... Then every 45 minutes until 8 am. So I only got 2.5 hours sleep in a block, and about 20 min here and there. Hopefully tonight is better! I can't wait for sleep training in a couple weeks.

And if that doesn't work, I will be hiring my own sleep specialist. For reals.

@MrsADS: remind me, have you tried co-sleeping?

Thanks everyone! Basically the plan for today is- get the baby to sleep no matter what. So if that means rocking, holding for naps, whatever, I will do it. He woke up at 5:15, rocked to sleep til 6, gave hin reflux meds at 6 (he has to wait 30 mins to eat after meds), nursed at 6:30, spit up fest, back to sleep at 7:15. Bit then he slept from 7:15 to 9:15 (he woke up about 8 and I had to rock him for 15 mins). Then slept about 10:30 to 11:45 (DH held him mostly). I'm holding him now and he's asleep. So, I think we're making progress.

@buttermilk that's a good call on being overstimulated. I usually keep it pretty chill but he's probably extra sensitive to it from being so sleep deprived.

@mrs. Microscope ugh hugs to you, that sounds awful! I hope we don't have to hire a sleep specialist. He was an ok sleeper before everything went to hell a few days ago so I'm hoping it's a developmental thing and will get better.

@ohcaptain would totally cosleep if it would help... LO has bad reflux and can't sleep flat. Plus he's a spit up fountain and our bed would be destroyed, lol.

@MrsADS: sounds like you're having a lil Sleepfest over there! Good for you my LO was a real handful last night too so I just took advantage of her 2 hour nap and DH and I slept like BABIES (which btw, why the hell does that mean sleeping well lol?) DH just woke up in a puddle of drool lolol. I can't remember the last time I napped bc it usually means I get nothing done all day but DH made me. It's a beautiful sunny day outside and I'm still in pajamas but whatever!

@buttermilk oh that sounds nice! He's asleep in the RnP so I'm tempted to nap but I have a feeling as soon as I fall asleep he'll wake up and I'll have to rock him for a while. I have so much crap I need to do... my house is a wreck. And Christmas shopping, have not even started. And we're going to send Christmas cards/belated birth announcements so I need to put those together and order them.... zzzz.

Sounds like almost all us August mamas are having sleep issues. YUCK.

Our longest stretch last night was 3 hrs & 45 min. Which is an improvement to the 2.5 hours he's been doing. I'm really hoping this is the sleep regression & we can move past it soon. I'm trying not to start any new bad habits in the mean time.

We have our 4 month check up on Tuesday! Can wait to see my chubby little guys stats! And a picture for good measure.

Another horrific night but this time it was partially my fault! I feel like the worst mom ever. Nursed LO about 12:15, rocked him, got him to sleep about 1:30. He woke up at 2 (ugh!). 30 minutes of rocking, back to sleep. Up at 3 - ditto! Then up at 3:45 - I finally just got him up to nurse him. Before nursing I changed his diaper- and he had a big poop in there! And it was obviously old, like he probably pooped when I fed him at 12:15 I felt SO bad. His poops are always really loud- I didn't hear OR smell anything. So I think he was waking up because he was uncomfortable. I'm slathering him with diaper cream today but his bottom looks ok.

Here's one of ours. Getting a 9 week old and a 3.5 year old to both look cute was so hard! We do have a few good ones, I just love the kids' espressions in this one!

    What beautiful families!

We are going to take our own photos of P for our holiday card. Some under the tree next week once we get it set up, and hopefully some this weekend in the snow in Oregon!

@Torchwood: thinking of you, as we opened a large box from Amazon from BIL... This year's Star Wars Legos is the Slave 1, 1996 pieces. No death star this year!

Driving 10 (so more like 13) hours to TN for thanksgiving. Baby's 4th time ever in a car seat so wish us luck. Oh and I am running on 4 hours sleep. Little miss was up from 1:30-4am last night. I can't even. Someone tell me this is just the 4 month sleep regression 1 month early? God damn!

  19. lilteacherbee

    cantaloupe / 6791 posts

@buttermilk: ugh, I hope she tolerates the car seat better than mine. Unless he's sleeping, he screams literally 90% of the time we're in the car. He hates it so much. I've started timing his naps around car trips (which happen frequently because we live in a small town and drive a lot) and bringing my iPad with his preferred white noise app (washing machine lol) to put in the back seat with him.

    Good luck!!

@buttermilk: good luck. I've found kids can either be rockstar roadtrippers or its hell. With my son it was hell. My daughter is ok so far, but we've only attempted about 5 hours max.

@buttermilk: good luck! M hates the car. It's torture going anywhere with him. I couldn't imagine a 10 hour trip. I hope she does ok!

@Mrs. Microscope: nice! I love bend! Hopefully you'll get some good pictures. Funny I live in Portland and my dad lives in castle rock!

Okay we made it! 13 hours as predicted. So proud of my girl, she did really well. Took a few naps and only had a couple mini meltdowns. Mostly I was able to distract her with toys, singing, music videos & Baby Einstein. We made sure to stop for nice breaks every 3 hours or whenever she was starting to lose it.

@buttermilk: Yay! Do you live somewhere that you walk a lot? LO was in her car seat 4 times by the time she was a few weeks old!

Just have to share this picture because it's the best!

@Torchwood: Awww Superbaby! Yes we live in Philadelphia and don't own a car. We walk her in a stroller or baby carrier around town but are very rarely in cars. I'm so happy she was a little trooper though!

One year ago today, DH and I visited R's brick in the memorial garden, and I found out I was pregnant, for the fourth and final time. It's an interesting mix of emotions to remember.

@MrsADS: lady! I read this blog post in the MOTN about baby sleep. There's some good stuff here. They have a naps 101 post too. https://childsleepscience.wordpress.com/2014/04/08/early-or-late-bedtime-which-is-right/

Since we got to TN I've been thinking about going back to a late bedtime just so her sleep lines up with ours more at least. And Last night she slept 9:30-5!!

    @Torchwood: ❤❤❤

Can't believe last Thanksgiving I was very newly pregnant and it's already been a year.

I was getting a touch of baby fever (😁😳), but last night brought me back to my senses. Both my kids were up multiple times a night and they usually STTN. Twice for the toddler and three times for the baby (all at different points in the night). So. Tired. So much respect for you mamas who have babies who think sleep is the enemy!

@buttermilk yes that is a great article! Thanks. I wrote a longer response in the other thread bit we're holding for naps to get him through that 30 min sleep transition wake up and so far it's working GREAT. I don't want to do this forever but maybe just working on his sleep debt will help. And you're so brave for that long car trip. Sounds like R did awesome.

    @torchwood so cute!

@torchwood @lilteacherbee @buttermilk ahhh your littles are so cuuuute! I'm jealous of your adorable fall/Thanksgiving outfits. It was 78 degrees, feels like 82 today so my hot natured, sweaty little guy was just in a onesie! We are flying to Tennessee for Christmas and I can't wait for him to wear some more wintery clothes. He's got a red argyle sweater vest for Christmas Eve!
