@Mrs. Microscope: I've also resorted to co sleeping past 3am bc it's the only way I can get sleep! I haaaaate how uncomfortable I am doing it though. It's funny that we have to choose between between crappy sleep or even crappier sleep.

Just had Isla's 4 month check - she is now 15lbs 9oz and has gone from 50th percentile to 75th for both weight and length

    @MrsStar: wow! That's a big jump!!

C had her fourth month appt today. 39% weight, 15% height, 66% head. She has eczema but they didn't hear her murmur (but her nose was kind of stuffy and she was breathing loudly).

And she raspberried the vaccine they give by mouth all overthe nurse's face. I was mortified at the time but now I think it is funny she barely noticed the shots by comparison.

@Ms. RV: Yeah she's had a pretty big growth spurt over the past month, no wonder her 3-6 month sized clothes don't fit any more!

lol at your lo raspberry-ing the meds at the nurse!

Uggh I'm so frustrated. Baby is EXHAUSTED by 6pm. Fell asleep easily by 6:30. Back awake at 7:10! Nursed, very sleepy, swaddle, back to sleep. Back up 10 minutes later! Annnnd he's been up ever since. It's like this every freaking night. He won't actually fall asleep and STAY asleep till 10 or 11! Then he'll wake up 1x during the night, which is good, but then wakes for the day around 6:30am... even if he was up till 11pm.

I don't know what to do. 4 to 5 hours of fighting him to go to sleep is killing me. And he's exhausted and overtired. Anyone else deal with this?

  6. buttermilk

    nectarine / 2086 posts

@MrsADS: I forget where you are with naps in the day at this point. Still fighting them/short naps or has that improved? I'm sure you've tried but do you have a bedtime routine? We do the same exact shit every night. Bath, massage, bottle, book & sway to Elvis Presley then in the crib. Lol. I'm guessing it's still just overtiredness and then finally crashing from pure exhaustion?

@MrsADS: didn't one of the bloggers just post about how she had this issue and it resolved by pushing bedtime back? e went down easily at 7:15 but was back up at 8:45 and then immediately 20 mins later . I was thinking to myself maybe she wants another catnap at 7 and not bed? But she seems sleepy. And sometimes she sleeps for 3 plus hours....

  8. Mrs. Microscope

    pear / 1788 posts

@MrsADS: I agree with pp to push back bedtime, but have a late nap. P sometimes has a nap at 5 or 6 for about 30 min, and will still sleep well at her 8-9 bedtime. Good luck mama!

    nectarine / 2262 posts

@buttermilk @ohcaptain @mrs. microscope thanks ladies. I do think pushing back bedtime might work better... but he usually does already take a late (short) nap, usually waking up around 5-5:45 pm. Usually only sleeps 30 minutes. And he is a BEAR when he's awake, fussy, rubbing his eyes, obviously exhausted. That's the only reason I have not pushed bedtime back - it seems like he is really exhausted early and when I keep him up, it's a total meltdown.

We are still having crap naps with an occasional better nap. It's just a crapshoot. Whenever he does finally crash for the night (usually between 9:30 and 11:30), he usually sleeps well with only 1 wake up and then wakes for the day around 6:30. But that isually means he's only getting 7-8 hours of overnight sleep, and with the crappy naps he's usually only getting 2-3 MAYBE hours of daytime sleep, sometimes less. And he's really tired a lot, so I don't think he's getting enough rest.

Unfortunately I really think his reflux is still affecting his sleep. He will wake up after 20 minutes of sleep and cry and be really fussy and I just can't get him back down... and 10 minutes later he will vomit all over me. So, it's pretty clear that he's waking up because he's uncomfortable/in pain/doesn't feel well. His GI doctor is actually sending him for an abdominal ultrasound and upper GI follow-through x-ray series just to make sure nothing else is going on because he's been so much worse lately. He had both these tests done when he was a few days old, but not since then. He's just been crying so much (really screaming in pain)...

I'm just so tired of fighting with the sleep, the crying, the reflux... it's making me really depressed. I want him to feel better and be happy. I cry a lot.

Let's talk hair loss... It's been about a month, and no signs of slowing down. Today I got 3 handfuls out during my shower. Thankfully I have thick hair, so no baldness. But still.

How are you ladies doing with hair loss?

  11. buttermilk

    nectarine / 2086 posts

@Mrs. Microscope: I just started noticing it in the past week or two. So far it's not large amounts at all, just kinda normal hair everywhere but it made me realize how I guess it really hadn't been falling out while pregnant!

    @MrsADS:

@Mrs. Microscope: lots of hair falling out here too. Unfortunately, I have fine hair to begin with so feeling like some very thin spots around my hairline/forehead are developing as a result. trying to remember from DD how long the hair loss lasted. Then you have to deal with the regrowth!

  13. Ms. RV

    pear / 1930 posts

@Mrs. Microscope: It feels like a lot, but it is not handfuls like I was expecting. My hair only got a tiny bit thicker while pregnant, so maybe that had something to do with it. I've also started only washing my hair every other day, drying it in a turbie twist instead of a towel, and using Fall Fight shampoo/conditioner. It doesn't help that C loves to yank on my hair.

  14. MrsADS

    nectarine / 2262 posts

@Mrs. Microscope I lose a big handful in the shower every day... and pregnant didn't lose any. I don't feel like my hair looks that much different, though.

Thanks all for your kind words. We are doing a little better now.

M had his 4 month checkup this morning. 14 lb 3 oz (47th percentile), 25 inches (75th percentile!). DH and I are tall so that doesn't surprise me. All well except unfortunately, the back of his head is getting so flat. The pediatrician was like "well, we'll have to watch it, if it doesn't get better at 6 months we may have to give you a referral for a specialist" (for a helmet)... UGGGH. Seriously, I don't know what to do. He sleeps on his back, we do tummy time (could do a little more, I guess), try to minimize time during the day in the carseat/swing/etc. ... anyone have any other suggestions? I have heard about these baby donut head support pillows (I think they are noggin nests?) to use when baby is lying flat to reduce pressure on the back of the head, I might try that. (Only during the day when he's supervised - would not use at night.)

We're flying to TN on Saturday, getting a bit nervous about the travel! But looking forward to seeing family. Also got into my prepreg jeans this morning

Anyone's LOs have diarrhea after 4 month shots? M got shots this morning and this afternoon has had 2 HUGE watery, explosive poops. Very unusual. I assume it's from the vaccines. Also had a low temp (100.3) and just generally a lot of crying and crankiness.

Hey everyone! I kind of disappeared for a while there (soaking up my maternity leave, but then when I came back to work, Hellobee was blocked as a spam site on our new system! So I basically just check in briefly on my lunch break and lurk around these parts - I've been here silently commiserating with all of you!)

Quick update: Baby K (who was born 7/27) is pretty much the best ever. We had a few glitches here and there - mainly with breastfeeding and a low supply, so we switched to formula (with just a tiny twinge of guilt) which was definitely the smartest thing for us. At his 4mo appt, he was 14.2lbs (21 percentile) and 26.25 inches tall (87 percentile) - which is funny because I'm 5'2" and DH is 5'8". I've been back at work since the beginning of November, and DS has already had two ear infections, a sinus infection, and pink eye in both eyes. Thanks, daycare.

Otherwise, we're all good! Getting nervous for holiday travel - we're driving from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania (~9 hr), which will be the little man's first long drive. Here's hoping it's not filled with hours of wailing.

@buttermilk i just added you on FB as well! : )

also, its been a while since I've posted, so heres the questionnaire...

    Baby
How old is your LO? 16 weeks tomorrow
Weight: 10lb 8 oz last week at a sick visit to the dr. my girl is a peanut! (but I'm only 5ft tall and her dad is short too, so they're not worried.
    Height: 20.75 inches
Most recent milestone: started babbling a lot and playing with toys
What is LO working on now? still trying to roll over. she rolled about 10 times in one day when she was 7 weeks old, and hasn't done it since.
What does your schedule look like? BF around 6am, pass her off to dad to take to daycare, picks her up around 5:30 and i BF her when i get home around 7pm. she usually takes about 4 naps a day all less than an hour.
    Favourite toys? her O-ball rattle
Something cute/funny/different your LO does: on the way to daycare in the morning, she "sings" with the radio the entire 30 minute drive.
LO's personality right now: super happy and interested in everything. she's a snuggler as well.

    You
Are you recovered from birth? yup
How is your postpartum body? still have 14lbs left to lose (but i had gained 50lbs so not bad!)
How are you feeling mentally? good, long work days with a commute suck though. I'm gone from 7am-7pm everyday.
Are you back at work? yup, since Nov 18th
Are you getting any me time? yes, i try to work from home one day a week and the babe still goes to daycare those days so even though I'm working, i can sneak in an errand or two, i even took a relaxing bath the other day with candles and everything!
What are you looking forward to in the near future? Christmas with the little one! even though we're not really getting her much, i still can't wait. she loves looking at the lights on the tree!

oh one other quick question, for those of you that were EFB and went back to work full time, has your supply dropped at all? my lo takes four 4oz bottles to daycare and some days i can barely pump enough for 2 bottles. I've been using up my freezer stash, but i only have about 2 days left worth of milk so we gave her a formula bottle the past two nights to test it out. Has anyone had luck getting their supply back up? I've been taking fenugreek but i feel like it hasn't really kicked in yet. Also I've been super sick the past two weeks and had to take some medicine which I'm pretty sure lowered my supply even more. ugh.

    nectarine / 2086 posts

@MissLace: I've always had a low supply but I sometimes think I notice it even lower since I starte back to work 2 weeks ago. Today I finally tried three shorter (10 min) pumping sessions instead of 2 longer ones and I ended up with more milk so maybe try that?

    I'll never forget it.

  27. Ms. RV

    pear / 1930 posts

@MrsADS: Regarding the head flat spot, anecdotedly, I feel like some babies are just more prone to it than others. I was reading a blog last night and this lady was super vigilent about no RnP or other baby holders after her son developed a flat spot. Lo and behold, her second baby developed a flat spot. Meanwhile, C sleeps most of the night in a RnP (going cold turkey to crib starting Friday while I have a week off for work) and no flat spot. It also took until about 4 weeks for her cone head to go away. Her head just isn't malleablr. In my totally non-health expert opinion, if LO's head flattens it should be soft enough to unflatten as he gets older.

There is a little hat called Tortle you might want to check out, though.

Whoa! I've been putting C down at night in her PnP just to have to switch to the RnP a couple hours later. Last night she slept the whole night in the PnP with only one wake remedied with a soothie. I was expecting to lose so much sleep when we went cold turkey on Friday. Maybe not!

Haven't been checking in (sorry), but DH shocked me tonight. I pointed out that he didn't go to the urologist so he missed his chance to get snipped for free while we're maxed out on our out of pocket, and he said he was thinking about wanting another baby. Wait, what?! He was the one who wanted none or just one. He's not saying he *does* want another, but that he's even considering it is huge. I don't know how I feel. I've been solidly one and done for months. And I don't want to get the idea in my head and then not and be disappointed. Wtf DH?!

    Also, Lils has gotten adorables!

  35. OhCaptain

@Torchwood: my DH also wanted none. And then we had a surprise (we were practicing FAM, so.....obviously it was a human error) and then we were "mostly" one and done, but neither of us could quite close the door, so we once again had a "surprise." But really, how surprised could we be?
And now we get fun moments like this...

  36. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@Mrs. J: I don't know? Our history hasn't changed. We now know what most likely caused at least the miscarriages and preterm labor, but as far as I know we can't do anything about the risk of more miscarriages. And I don't know how much they can do about preterm labor. I could almost certainly come around to a second in general. But I don't know about going through the scary stuff again.

I wrote a blog post yesterday about the things I missed out on because of things not going the way I expected, and mentioned that I didn't get another chance because we weren't having another baby. I assume that's at least part of what precipitated this. That and L is in a spectacularly cute and fun phase. It's easy to want another right now.

@Torchwood: when I had my first it was easy for me to see why certain sibling spacing is prevalent. Kids 16-20 months apart? It's becasue your 6-10 month old is so cute, and fun. But non-verbal and still easy even if they are mobile. Haha. I could have easily been talked into a second at that point.

  40. Torchwood

    pomelo / 5607 posts

@OhCaptain: Ha ha, very true. DH and I tend to be randomly impulsive about some things, so if I had AF back I could see us just saying screw it and going for it. But since we have no choice but to wait, I expect she'll get to a more difficult phase and we'll realize we had good reasons to stick with one.
