How many books do you check out for your LO on average? We usually take home about 25 books, give or take. We fly through them in a week and then just return them early.

30 which is the max. I keep them for 3 weeks and renew as needed,

Wow I feel like a super mean mom now! I only let DD take out 4 at a time (we go weekly). Do you stay home? That might make a difference, both DH and I work full time so we only have nights and weekends to read the books. I think if I was home full time I'd probably get the max too!

10. I need an easy to remember number so I can find them all at the end of 3 weeks. We like lots of repeat reads.

There's not a huge board book selection so we check out two each week.

10! And we go back every week or two. Some nights we just run out of time so I don't think we can go anymore than 10... And there are nights he want to repeat on specific books. Like @Mrs Green Grass: said, I am already stressed out enough to run around the house trying to find all 10 books....!
Also, DS would probably just grab whatever (without paying attention to if he really would be interested in them) if I give him more!

None right now. We just go there for story hour and to play. She still regularly dismantles books.

@autumnlove: I was curious and asked one time, they said 50 is our max! I couldn't keep track of that many! I did just hit the limit for the holds though - 25. I love going online and putting holds on books. They will deliver them to our (small) branch for free which is nice because it gives us more of a selection and I can locate books of interest before we actually go. When we go to the library I let them pick out a few on top of the ones I have ordered.

@HappyBaker: We work full time, but typically read 2 books per night and only go to the library about every other week. So getting 10 books or so per child works well for us.

i had no idea you could check out that many!! we do 3 for each kid (3.5 year old and 13 month old)

We stick to 5, I can't keep track of more and the late fine isn't so bad on 5- 25 books would cost me a fortune!

4-8. I find if we have too many more then some of them just never get read because DD always picks the same ones

@megjay18: I'm pretty sure the libraries here (NYC) let you take out up to 99 books at a time - and I think it's just because once you hit triple digits, it crashes the system!
@HappyBaker: Nah, you're not mean, just smart! We've misplaced a few books because we had too many out (I suspect paperbacks got tucked into hardcovers during the return process)
At any given time we usually have 30 or so books out. When DD1 is in school, DD2 and I usually go every week, and we don't always return everything from the previous visit, just the duds! I am going to cut back for the summer, though - getting two kids and 20 lbs of books to the library on foot is not fun in the summer as the bump gets bigger!

@Cole: Seriously, I've learned the hard way that fines add up fast - it's something like 35 cents a day per book - which gets steep quickly if you're a few days late on a whole stack, like happened to us recently when I had some unexpected pregnancy complications!

10ish. Once they come home, they all go on a separate basket in the living room.

@autumnlove: @T.H.O.U.: they laughed when I asked what the max was, they said they didn't have one!

30+ and I often get fined because I'll be one day late. Finally added the app and for the first time I auto-renewed on my phone just in time to give me a few more days. LOL - will wait until the day before to return again. I'm horrible. Oh well, at least I'm paying for more books.

As many as our book bag will hold, which is typically about 20. We usually return after one week. Our library allows 50 books for 3 weeks. The girls each have their own card (which is tied to mine) but it actually allows us EACH 50!
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@MamaG: Yes! Our kids have their own cards too so hypothetically we could have 200 books at once in our house!
@808love: Ours has a drive through drop off so I really shouldn't have an excuse for being late!

5-10 at a time for DD and 2-3 for me. If we get a lot then DD will forget which ones belong to the library and shelve them with her books. I'd rather go a couple times a week or reread the ones we got several times.
