Hi, I am new to this site and this is my first post. I am a first time mom and have a happy 7 month old son.. Lately he has been screaming and I mean it is high pitch, blood curdling, hair stands on ends screams and he often smiles when screaming. He has a little walker that he uses and seems to do most of the screaming while walking around in it and once I or my husband looks at him, he smiles and then stops just to start up again once we look away. The screaming is horrible and I am not sure what to do about it if I should even do anything. He obviously won't understand that he is being loud or hurting our ears and it's not a fussy kind of scream at all... he seems happy when he screams and squeals. Is anyone else going through this or has anyone gone through this? I don't know what to do and I only have so much tylenol to take for the headaches. Any advice??

There's not a whole lot you can do to actually change it. I would just start practicing inside voice. I used to over emphasize it by whispering and saying please use your inside voice like this. But, yeah at 7 months nothing is actually going to change.

He's found a special power
I would just tease him and go over and cover your ears, cover his ears, let him see you be silly while you overreact and say 'ow my ears', maybe fall over from it, try and get him to laugh. Then distract him with a different game. -
Try not to react! He's found a cool new sound and of course wants to practice, but the real appeal is that his new trick gets your attention.

@Maysprout: LOL, yeah he totally has and loves it. I will try some of the things you mentioned and see if any of it helps when it does do it and see what kind of reaction I get. Thank you for the advice!

My friends and I call this the pterodactyl stage, because it sounds like we imagine a large flying dinosaur would!
He's found a fun new skill, it will eventually not be as much fun and he'll move onto something else.

I think a lot of kids do this- including mine. He just figured out how to make this noise for fun and he is getting quite a reaction from mama and dada! I would just ignore it if he seems happy and eventually he will find a new favorite noise or thing to do. Good luck!

@Rocker2014: Haha, thanks for the advice!! I appreciate everyone's helpful tips for this. If he gets a kick out of it and I know he isn't hurt or in danger of getting hurt then I won't worry.. I think a part of it is me, being a new mom and so everything is new to me too.

@caterw: LOL he loves the reaction from us and I think that is why he smiles afterwards.. his smile melts my heart so of course he continues to scream and smile at us.. He has a silly little sense of humor already.
