My cousin’s son is getting baptized next week. I’d love some gift ideas. I’m totally open to giving cash too. How much does one give these days?

I don’t know if you have a Lifeway Christian Store near you? But they have gifts!

We have given religious books, crosses, or just baby gifts. I got a Desmond Tutu book called Children of God for one of my kids and it has been my favorite gift to receive. But we have many family members who wouldn’t really resonate with that so it depends on your family.

How old is the person getting baptized? What denomination and how seriously do the parents take their faith?

We just had our son baptized a few weeks ago. We were gifted a lovely musical wooden keepsake box that plays Jesus loves me. The top has a place for a quote or a photo.

I am not religious but have been to several baptisms. I always give a really nice piggy bank with $50-$100 depending on the relationship.

I gave this book recently and I wanted to buy a copy for myself! It was adorable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0745962513/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I1U5O06B6BWWR5&colid=3ULL3Z2P1YGUD&psc=0

I think it depends on what denomination, if the parents are involved in the church/serious about their faith, etc. So we're Lutheran and go to church every week. I have never heard of people giving cash for a baptism, but maybe that is a Catholic thing? When my son was baptized, a few close family members who attended the baptism got him some small gifts - a cross for his room, a little music box that plays "Jesus Loves Me," a children's illustrated Bible. Things like that. He was only 2 months old when he was baptized.
Edit to add: my absolute favorite thing he got was something that our church does for every child who is baptized. A lady makes a little felt banner that says "I am baptized" with the child's full name and date of baptism, it is so sweet and personalized and we have that hanging in his room.

When we baptized our son he received religious children's books, a silver piggy bank, and pretty picture frames.

Card & Cash. Godparents/sponsors add in a keepsake (picture frame, cross).

I personally would give a Jesus Storybook Bible and some cash. Amount, who knows.

I'd ask the parents if there's anything they'd like for him to get. Especially if they're really religious.
My family is pretty particular about things like Bibles. I never buy a book for my brother's family without running it by them first.
And usually they have a good idea of what each child could use for their room (a crucifix, statue, etc.) or if they need a rosary or medal of some sort.
I wouldn't buy any sort of home decor unless you KNEW it was the family's taste. And if they have multiple kids...keep in mind what they may already have
