I'll be 14 weeks when we go on a family vacation to Florida in June. I only have a bikini at this point because my old tankini fell apart I wore it so much.
What would you buy for summer if you would be 3-6 months pregnant during pool season - a regular tankini or a maternity suit?
I didn't have this problem with my first - she was born in early June.

if you're not averse to a two-piece, I got this bottom from J Crew in the next size up and wore it when I was 5-8 months pregnant--I loved it, really cute and has a ton of coverage, and the ruching made it work even as I got bigger. plus you can get whatever top you like.

@mediagirl: what about a rash guard, then you can wear your regular bikini underneath? 14 weeks is tough- it’s enough that you definitely look rounder but not necessarily pregnant. I’d actually prefer a maternity top to make me look more pregnant. I wore a maternity rash guard over a stretchy sports bra and bigger bottoms. Baby 2 was born in December so I guess I would have been 3-6 months over the summer.

@LCTBQE: I definitely need bigger bottoms. My butt grows like my belly when pregnant so this small bikini won't cut it this summer. I'll look into those.
@Foodnerd81: I'm due in December. I might just have to go out and look at maternity suits to see if they would be best. I hate swimsuit shopping in the best of times...definitely need bigger bottoms for summer. And my 2 bikinis are both polka dot (one orange, one green) - not neutral at all.

I'm almost 14 weeks with my third, and tried to wear my normal tankini yesterday. It was incredibly uncomfortable- it felt very tight. I'm showing, but not a ton.
I ended up wearing my maternity tankini top from Old Navy and my regular swim short bottoms.
I didn't love the ON top, it kind of dug into me, but I haven't found a great solution yet. I may just try another maternity tankini

I just wore my regular bikini! Does it still fit? Best time for bikinis - don’t have to suck anything in. Haha

@mediagirl: I felt like most tankinis didn’t give my boobs enough support, but also i couldn’t stand anything right on my ribs. So the rash guard with sports bra worked well. I got mine on clearance at motherhood online. And the bottoms were clearance at tj maxx.

@mediagirl: haha, mine too you know what else I liked about it is that it's so flexible-- I wore it PP when we did baby shrimp swim class at the Y and on a beach vacation, and I could wear it again if I ever gain a few pounds. with a maternity-specific suit, you'd wear it a few times and then never again. plus in my experience looking at them, they're not really constructred so much for second tri as they are for third tri, which is not you this time around. ETA the ass coverage on this thing is FULL. I'm not into "cheeky" at any time, but especially not during pregz.

I'm about 16 weeks and my regular suits are generally a no-go (especially one-pieces), but could probably get away with tankinis if there is enough boob coverage.
I got this suit on sale at Pea in the Pod and I think it'll work both for this summer and post-baby:

With my first I moved to tankinis during the pregnancy, he was born in January and the tankinis worked fine through the entire summer. I can't find the one I love but it was Ralph Lauren bandeau style that I got at Macy's.
I now mostly wear regular bottoms with a sports bra and sun tee from Land's End.

I wore a maternity suit that summer (also due in December).
If I had to do it all over again, I would get separates from Athleta.

@MACSUNSHINE: @Foodnerd81: don't you get hot in a rash guard? I get hot on a normal day in a rash guard, I can't imagine pregnant hot.
@LCTBQE: cheek coverage is SO IMPORTANT.

Gap either has/will have maternity suits, one piece and separates. Not sure if they hit online yet.

@mediagirl the land’s end shirts are very thin but have SPF which is why I love them. I have not warn them during pregnancy, only the tankini.

So I just got a rash guard from Lands End in my regular size but in a long. It fits my 17 week belly well and is stretchy so hopefully will last the season. It’s cute and thin enough (I hope) that I won’t be too hot to wear over a bikini top
