@looch: Yep. Wash at night and let it dry. Then just brush it out in the morning with the Amika. No extra product or wetting before (it’s not meant for wet hair). After I might use some product to help keep it smooth. Like Oribe anti-humidity spray or texture spray.

Just ordered the AsaVea on Amazon. Can't wait to try it out Thursday morning!

@LCTBQE: I would think shoulder length would still be long enough to get some tension. I think the tension plus the heat is what makes it work so well. I will have flyaways from my November 2016 childbirth and it seems to tame those without issue. They are only a few inches long.

@looch: I use a heat spray with the Amika in the morning after I've let it airdry all night but I've also been cranking up the heat so I probably need the protection.

@snowjewelz: thanks for sharing! I totally need to do this capsule wardrobe. I just ordered her Fall challenge wardrobe and it's really cute. It was cheaper than the Winter Challenge since it's old, but I think more appropriate for where I live since it's not cold here. I realized I'm in a total blue jeans rut as she mentioned so hopefully this gives me a fashion overhaul!

@tiramisu: That's great! I haven't done any of the challenges but I plan to once I am completely done nursing and loose some weight!

@sweetiepie: I'm super intrigued. I regularly get a brazilian blowout to de-firzz my hair, but it still requires a quick flat iron in the morning to tame the shape (one side is wavy, but the other side isn't so I just look awkwardly lopsided!) It only takes me about 5 minutes, but I hate how my hair gets flat and limp (and too straight for my taste). I would love a similarly quick solution that kept some body and volume in my hair.

Would this work for hair that is a little bit shorter than shoulder length? (but longer than chin length)

I'm willing to pay $120 for something I will use every day and love....but that is too much to just randomly try out a new product that may not be a winner.

    @MrsLonghorn: I would think so!
You could probably order from Sephora and return if it doesn’t work out. Their return policy is excellent.
Also I wonder if there are YouTube videos of this brush with shorter hair?

@SweetiePie: good idea, I will check for videos!

@MrsLonghorn: you can definitely return to Sephora if you don’t like it! I return anything I don’t love, they make it easy.

    @skinnycow: @MrsLonghorn: @looch: @youboots: @purplepumps: @lctbqe:
I did a before and after of my hair this morning. I went to bed with it wet. And actually forgot to do any product at all.
I also used the stopwatch on my phone to actually time how long it took. 6 min 36 seconds. A full blowout done by myself takes at least 15 and is more labor intensive (clipping and unclipping sections, holding the brush and hair just so, the hair dryer, etc). My hair is pretty fine though.

Not sure I could leave my hair down but I love the idea of using this on weekends or when I do a bit top bun!

    @SweetiePie: Oh wow, that's amazing.

I am going to try my brush again this weekend and see if I get similar results. My hair is chin length now, but I am contemplating growing it out....it's also fine.

Totally bought one of the brushes from Amazon...

I don't know if this is a "hack" per se, but I've been using skincare products from The Ordinary and I love them. They are SO inexpensive and have worked really well for me. Highly recommend.

    clementine / 806 posts

@looch: please update! My hair is between chin and shoulder and I couldn't find any shorter hair videos online. Just want to know if you think it is good on short hair too, before I spend the money!!

  18. MrsLonghorn

    clementine / 806 posts

@MrsSCB: I've heard great things about The Ordinary, but they have soooo many products I don't even know where to begin! I literally wash my face at night, and put on powder foundation in the morning.....that's all. If I remember, I apply an SPF moisturizer.
Is there a "starter" combination of products you would recommend?

@SweetiePie: wow, you convinced me! I'm going to have to get this brush. I have fine hair too.

Do you have the mini or regular sized brush? I wonder if the mini will be enough for my needs - https://www.sephora.com/product/polished-perfection-mini-straightening-brush-P423905

@MrsLonghorn: Until a few months ago, my skincare "routine" was pretty much the same as yours. Here's what I do now, AM and PM:

    wash
tone with Thayer's witch hazel/rose toner (also inexpensive!)
    apply The Ordinary Buffet
    apply The Ordinary Niacinamide
apply The Ordinary Caffeine Solution just to undereye area
    Moisturizer
    Sunscreen (only in the morning)

Seems like a lot of steps, but it doesn't take long and has kind of turned into my way of doing a brief bit of self-care morning and night I plan to add the granactive retinoid a few times a week at night, but you're not supposed to use it while breastfeeding. So I'm holding out for now.

My favorite product is the niacinamide. That was the first one I added and it helps with redness and also the minor breakouts I would occasionally get. Some people don't react well to it, so I'd definitely spot test it for a few days first. But it's been so good for me.

If you want to see more in-depth explanations of all their products, there's a facebook group called The Skincare Connection. In their files, they have a word document where they compiled details about all TO products into one place. That's pretty helpful.

@Mrs. High Heels: I have the regular sized one, I think the mini is pretty new. The mini might take you a little more time? But if your hair is fine and not too long it might be ok. Hard to say!

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@SweetiePie: ah ok, thanks! I’ll give it a try since it does sound like it could work with my hair type. Can’t hurt since Sephora has a great return policy.

  23. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@MrsSCB: I love the niacinamide too! I also really like their squalane oil. Was not a fan of the buffet so I returned it. It felt tacky and clogging.

Sephora sells The Ordinary now too!

@MrsSCB: I just heard about this brand the other day and am curious to try it, but I don't think I can get it where we live. I'll have to check the local Sephora to see if they carry it, but they don't always have everything that the American Sephora has.

  25. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: I just started the buffet and I feel like I have to use a teeeeny bit or it’s heavy. The niacinamide is definitely my fave. I’ve heard good things about the squalane. I’m excited to use the retinoid because it’s in squalane (I mean, whenever my son weans... 😂)

@lamariniere: Beautylish also sells it. Not sure what their international shipping deal is, but worth checking out! https://www.beautylish.com/b/the-ordinary

@SweetiePie: Amazing!! I have exactly your hair texture, seriously only difference is orange vs brown. The after is unreal, that would take me 18 minutes with my flat iron.

  27. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@LCTBQE: the sad thing is I actually think my before isn’t so bad compared to what it can be 😂 It’s seriously so crazy some mornings.
I can’t picture you with my hair texture. You look so polished and perfect when we meet 💁‍♀️ How does Apple not have emojis with redheads???

@SweetiePie: girlfriend I'm a slave to the fucking flat iron, that is the only reason I don't look like Medusa at all times. also we need to get together before the world ends v2

I’m really stoked about the Amika brush.

It works best for me second day since I have a chin length bob. It won’t replace my flat iron since I need more precision for the back.

But yesterday I was out on the beach in the wind and rain and my hair was wild when it dried. It took me like one minute to completely fix my hair.

    And it heats in seconds.

  33. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@youboots: wow you got it fast!!! So glad you like it! Yes the super fast heat up is key.
For the back of your hair you could try to do that more in layers.
I do the very back bottom layer of my hair first. Then I let down another layer. Then basically do the top layer. So I do my whole head in 3 layers and it’s pretty much perfect after. And that still takes only 6 mins. If I didn’t layer it out it would take wayyyy less. It still looks fine when I do that but I like knowing I got every possible section.

@Adira: how long did it take the Asavea to heat up?
I'm stalking this thread debating whether or not to get one!

Now I’ve read all this and I really want that cheaper mini version of the Anika brush that @Mrs. High Heels: posted- I have shoulder length fine, mostly straight hair with just enough wave in the front to just look weird. And for $35 if this could help me look more put together easily it’s worth it, but I don’t want to pay shipping and don’t need anything else for $15 to get to free shipping.

  36. Mrs. High Heels

    blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts

@Foodnerd81: I get free shipping so I can order it and ship it to you if you want. Let me know.

@Mrs. High Heels: well then I’d still have to pay the shipping from you to me! May as well find something else I need to order (or a local friend who needs something!)
