@Jbhops - I think I'll try to keep them in our room initially while breastfeeding, but I may not be able to do that for very long. I'll be on maternity leave for 12 weeks, but my husband's leave will probably be much shorter. I may opt to sleep upstairs with the baby while I'm still nursing so that my husband can get a full night's rest when he has to work without the constant interruptions (my husband is a light sleeper).

It may also depend on how well I'm able to sleep with them in the same room as me. I've heard from a few moms that sometimes it's easier to have the baby in a separate room so that all the noises they make don't keep you up all the time. If I have trouble sleeping, then I may want to put them in one of the rooms upstairs and I would move into the one next to it in order to still nurse easily but also get some sleep.

@Blushink - how old are both your kids? Is the youngest 2, or is the oldest 2?

@Blushink - haha, sorry, I think I new that you were pregnant too. So will you keep both children upstairs once your new one arrives?

@Andrea - Thanks! So you think it's okay that once they are sleeping through the night, to leave them upstairs on their own?

@Mrs. Green Grass - So very similar to our situation, just opposite. Do you have kids yet? If so, what are you doing? If not, what are you thinking you'll do when you have them?

@Mrs. D - Thanks! That's definitely encouraging! I guess I'll just have to try things out and figure out what works, but it's good to know that it's not TERRIBLE that I'm planning on having them on the second floor alone while we're on the first.

@Artbee - That's a good point. Currently my best friend and her daughter come over and spend the night once a week and she puts her daughter to bed upstairs (though she also sleeps with her once she goes to bed) and it is nice that we don't have to whisper or try to keep it down when we're still up since we're downstairs and far enough away from the room that we don't wake her, though if she wakes up and starts crying, we can def still hear her.
