I bought a belly bandit and chose the size based on the instructions. Day 2 and it was already too big. I wasn't too disappointed since I lost the weight super fast but I would have liked to use something... Just be careful of the sizing I guess.

I used belly bandit. Medium worked for about 3 weeks and then small for another two or so. Then it got too hot and I was happy enough with my belly.

I used a bellefit. If was ammmmmaaaazing. I have a pic I can wall! The difference between using one with my second and not with my first child is unreal.

@Peasinapod: @MsHangry: thanks for your replies! Did you use the regular version or bamboo version? Was it comfy or was there bunching?
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@matador84: yes pleeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I used nothing with DD, I am determined not to make the same mistake this time.

@plantains: bamboo. As my belly got smaller there was more bunching. So the medium didn't bunch very much but by the end the small was all folded and creased. I am also short waisted.
This was my first child, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I am very happy with the results. The support also helped make those early post partum walks easier (weeks 1 and 2).

@Peasinapod: Same experience and I'm not going to spend another $100 for the smaller size since I'm basically at my prepreg size. @plantains: I had the bamboo.

I used the bellefit, but not very much because it was soooo uncomfortable and tight, especially with my c-section incision. I loved my hospital ab-binder which I think seems like a low-cost version of a belly bandit.......it was like a smaller version of this:
http://www.amazon.com/Meditex-Post-Pregnancy-Abdominal-Binder/dp/B00BN878I0
It was so comfortable that I even slept in it and it seemed to do a really good job shrinking everything back in.
if you do go with the bellefit, I would get something else to wear first for the immediate postpartum time, before it fits more comfortably. and for sizing reference, I'm like a 2-4 / small pre-pregnancy and I ordered the small. I wore my hospital binder for about 2-3 weeks and then alternated bellefit when I could stand it with the other one.
hopefully that ramble is helpful !

@charlotte: this is very useful info as I am having a C-section. Last time, my hospital didn't even offer an ab binder but I guess I have to be proactive and ask this time?
kiwi / 706 posts
@plantains: yes, I would. I saved mine from last time because I loved it so much haha. I got mine when my OB stopped by to check on me the afternoon or morning after the c-section... she asked if I wanted it and then sent in a prescription (I guess it is considered medical equipment?) and then a medical delivery company brought it to my nurses and they helped put it on while I was still in the hospital. I think having it ready to go ASAP was a big help. maybe tell your OB in advance that you were looking into support garments for post-C and ask if she can write an rx for one.

I used a bellefit and loved it. It started off super tight (I started wearing it a month postpartum) and I was afraid it was too small, but it stretched out a bit after a couple uses and was perfect. Once I lost more weight it did bunch a bit, but other than that I found it very comfortable. With my second pregnancy, also a c-section I asked at the hospital for a binder and they gave me one. They didn't offer, so I am glad I asked. My hospital said they keep them in stock, but patients rarely ask for them, so I would say it's worth asking the question.

@matador84: can u wall me? I think I should do this after my secodn

I used the bellefit but not religiously - mostly because I was in between sizes. The medium was too tight at first and it was so uncomfortable. By 4 weeks pp, it fit better and I wore it about twice a week. Maybe if I ate healthier, I would have seen a bigger difference! But I don't think it did much otherwise

I loved my bellefit. I started wearing it the day I got home from the hospital and yeah, it wasn't super comfortable but it made such a difference. I loved wearing it too because I felt supported and less like my innards were sloshing about. I do think it helped in me getting my figure back more quickly. It just helped get everything back in the spot it was supposed to be, even before I started losing weight.

I used the bellefit, but not that often because it was SO uncomfortable. With everything else that was going on (stitches on the lady bits, leaking, cracked nipples) I just didn't have the tolerance for more pain. On the plus size, the resale value is great and I sold mine on eBay for pretty much what I bought it for. I plan on trying a squeem this time, as I read that they work great and are more comfortable.

@matador84: me too. I want to use something after I have my second!

@plantains: it was pretty comfy. I bought bamboo. But I literally wore it once for about half a day and then realized it was just hanging out over my tummy and not tight enough to hold anything in.

I had a csection and wore the bamboo belly bandit last time and while it definitely was uncomfortable, it made me feel more supported.
I did buy the bellefit for this time around to see if it would be more comfortable. The belly bandit hit right at my incision and really hurt, so hopefully this works better.

I used belly bandit and it worked but I disliked it. It was uncomfortable, I needed to buy two sizes so it was expensive, and it showed really obviously through my clothes. I was thinking of trying bellefit next time.

Hmmm, all the comments seem to suggest that bellefit might be the better choice for c-section mamas.

Heh, I have a medium one and didn't use it this time around! And I won't get to because I have to have some minor surgery in a couple of weeks. I should have gotten a large, for it to have been useful. Oh well, that's what the classifieds are for, right? I think had I had the right size, I would have not minded wearing it. But it was sooooo tight

@plantains: I bought these cheaper versions in a large and medium and used them last pregnancy--I do think they made a difference--no pictures though! Like the belly bandit, you can't really wear it under form-fitting clothes in public because the seams show, but I wore it constantly at home the first few weeks. And they are SO much cheaper than the more expensive versions. And free returns on Amazon made me feel good about it.
There is a picture on the amazon user reviews of before and after.

I bought the mama strut because it is attached to biker shorts which have a built in pocket for an ice/heat pack. I had to use ice packs for 2 weeks with my first so I thought this would be nice to have. I did the sizing like it said and the binder part wouldn't come close to closing at 3 days PP. By the time I could actually wear it end of week 2 I was done with ice packs. I hate the biker shorts because the ride up on me. I'm so disappointed and wish I had bought the bandit.

I'm using the bamboo belly bandits right now and love it for the most part. It keeps my belly in and my back gets extra support. I don't like that you can't wear it under tighter fitting clothes but it's pretty comfortable for the most part. I def think it works/helps because I'm 19 lbs from prepreg weight, but I wore a pair of prepreg jean shorts today and they zipped up/buttoned comfortably!
I have a hip shrinx but haven't used it at all since the belly bandit provides enough coverage for me, will probably sell on the classifieds.

For the first few days I wore the belly bandit. I liked it except for the fact that you can't really wear it out unless you're wearing a flowy top. I was just able to fit into my Squeem 1 week PP. it's not as adjustable as the belly bandit but it's more of a corset so it's good to wear under more form fitting things. Here's a pic the day I went into labor and 1 week PP wearing the Squeem.

I used a belly bandit starting at 3 days PP and loved it. I didn't sleep in it but tried to wear it as much as possible during the day. I got 2 sizes and switched to the smaller size once the larger size was too big. Top pic is 2 days PP and bottom pic is 2 weeks PP.

@mrsjyw: Wow! Way to go with the pre-preg shorts already!
@plantains: Like many PP, I used the Belly Bandit (regular, not bamboo) for my 1st pregnancy. While I did like that it seemed to help shrink quickly, it also became too big pretty quickly. I also have a very short torso, so it was rather bulky and uncomfortable, so I'd wear it only on/off during the day. After it got too big, I switched to the ShrinkHipz which I really liked! Hips were a big worry spot for me. I think I was in PP jeans and weight by month 2 pp? This time around I plan on using the same stuff and then switch to the Bellefit as soon as I can squeeze into it.

I just used the belly binder from the hospital after my c-section. All I had to do was ask for it and the nurses brought it straight away and helped me get it on. And it is 100% adjustable so as you get smaller, the same binder still fits.

I liked my bell edit. I only bought one size the smaller of the two suggested sizes and I was hell bent on getting into it because of the money I spent. I started wearing it a few days pp and it wouldn't fasten all the way at first but after a few days it did. By about 2 weeks pp my stomach looked flat- I definitely had pregnancy weight left to lose but I think it really helped with the deflating and de-bloating. That said, I've only had one pregnancy so I don't have anything to compare it too and I was thin before pregnancy, but I loved the way putting it on made me feel and look less pregnant. It really helped in that post partum haze of being unfamiliar with your new body.
