Did your new baby give their older sibling a gift when they first met? Looking for some ideas. My son will be 3 in August. Thanks.

Big sister was 3.5 and little brother got her a kid camera (leap pro. It actually takes pictures) for big sis to take pics of all the visitors.
She likes Doc McStuffin so we got her one of those magnetic dress up dolls from Costco.

Xander (21m at the time) was into cars and sports, so he got some Chuck & Friends trucks (3 of them), a basketball (and hoop which we gave to him after we got home), and a teddy bear (and the baby got a matching teddy bear).

LO1 was 3y3m and she got a new doll, a Rapunzel dress, and The Little Mermaid movie.
She got the baby a wubbanub.

Yes, he was 3yr9m and we got him a remote control helicopter. He was too young for it, but he had been obsessed with them and we wanted something he and DH could play with together and outside:).
The hospital gave him a little stuffed bear wearing a Big Brother t-shirt and he still sleeps with it. Loved it, and he's not big into stuffed animals. I think because it's associated with DS2.

We didn't get big bro anything from lil sister. Don't think he cares. He loves on her like crazy right now though (maybe too hard sometimes) and she's 3 months.

@Alivoo01: we aren't planning on doing anything either.

We didn't do anything, but he just got the Melissa and Doug car wash for his birthday and it's a big hit. So is their garbage truck. Or if you have a sandbox maybe some new toys in the hopes of quiet independent play?

@Alba4: a friend of mine sent DS and DD similar bath towels and washcloths - his was shark (hooded) and hers was a princess (hooded) - we pulled them out when we gave DD her first bath and DS was so excited that they matched!
A fun but practical gift!

When DD1 came to the hospital to visit we had a doll waiting for her. The nurses even swaddled it and put it in a bassinet just like her baby sister. She loved getting to bring home her very own baby and still plays with it

@Smurfette: @Alivoo01: We didn't do anything either. I'm pretty sure my LO (who was exactly 3 at the time) would be able to figure out that the new baby can't actually get her anything, so it wasn't really from him. Plus, I didn't feel like he needed to buy her something to make her like him/be excited about him. This isn't really a trend that I understand. And I say that as some who loves giving and receiving presents. I just think getting a baby sibling is pretty damn cool in and of itself, no need for the baby to give a present.

We got B a train set (he was 26 months), and we took him to the store to pick out a stuffed toy for him to give the baby. He still tells us "baby brother gave me this!" when he plays with the trains.

I was thinking about taking both kids to build a bear after baby comes and having DS pick out one for the baby and have baby "pick out" one for him. Not sure how that'll go over though, lol.

@Alba4: DD is 7 and I put together a gift basket for her! She was super happy to receive it and I think it helped her to feel special and important when baby came home from hospital.
I had so much fun shopping for it and putting it together here's a pic before I wrapped it in the cello.

@Truth Bombs: agreed! Plus, he has so much toys at home as is!

We didn't do it a gift, and LO1 was still very excited about LO2's arrival. We are pretty minimal about gift giving in general, though.

We skipped it. Christmas and birthdays were at the same time so there was no need for any additional gifts. They were both psyched to be getting a baby.

LO will be getting a baby born so we can have babies together and I am putting together a busy bag, play doh, crayons and colouring book and some little bits to keep her occupied.

We are getting the little tykes basketball net. Not really from th baby, but he is obsessed with them and I think he's going to struggle with the transition so we hope the new toy helps a bit.

We're going to get him a durable digital camera. He already LOVES his kid digital camera that does take real photos (poor quality), but I think it's time for him to have something that can take better photos. I think he'll have a blast taking pictures of his new sister.

LO1 will be 18 months and I will be getting him a play kitchen. Not so much "from the baby" which i dont think he will understand anyways. But is a hope to get some quiet play time.

My almost-2 year old got her own baby to take home from the hospital. She loves "baby Tom" and loves to take care of him the way I care for her bab brother. It wasn't from her brother, though, per se.

The "baby" got her a cupcake to celebrate baby's birthday and a jellycat bunny. That she really didn't care much about and still doesn't. Lol!
