We are thinking about getting my 3yo a motorized dump truck thing for Christmas. It’s one he can drive. He will freak out and love it. What would be something “equivalent” for my 5yo girl? Something biggish in size and that will have an equal impact that she will be thrilled about. Any good ideas? Price of the truck is $150 if it helps your answer

Does she already have a big doll house? We got my daughter a nice wooden dollhouse (I think we did Melissa and Doug with the elevator) for Christmas last year when she was 4.5 and she still loves it and plays with it all the time. Plus it makes a really nice thing to come down to on Christmas morning, all set up in front of the tree. Hers was around $100 and you could easily get extra furniture and dolls for it.

@Foodnerd81: we don’t have a dollhouse, but my mom does and my lo pretty much ignores it. But that would be the right price/size to have the same impact, just need to find something I think she would LOVE. Which is hard lol

@gotkimchi: What about a teepee or a play tent? That’s what I want to get my son who will be 3 but he’s not a reader / quiet time kid so I’m worried he won’t love it. If your DD likes books and stuffed animals it might be amazing. I know I would have been over the moon at 5 with a teepee to hide away in. Check pottery barn, target, land of nod.

@gotkimchi: If you get a scooter, we love the micro mini brand! You want the one with the adjustable handle bar (I think it's called the deluxe? It's for kids 5-12). So much better than Razr and the rest. We actually keep it in the house and she zooms around on our wood floors.

We got a HugglePod and a stand for our pool area, could be an option.

Just had another idea...if you have an ipad, Osmo. It's an ipad game with extension kits, very hands on. We have the starter, coding, drawing, pizza and hot wheels extensions and my son loves it!

Our kids loooove their scooters, but I would try and wait to get scooters until they can both get one. We ended up getting one for our 2 year old this summer (they were on sale which worked well) because they were fighting over the single one we had. We have Globber brand scooters which is a step down from the Micro Mini and they’ve been great. They were about $65-$70. But you could always do that and a helmet, and then get your younger one a scooter for their bday.
Is she into music? We’re thinking of getting a keyboard as a joint big present (we can’t have a piano).

Is she into grocery store shopping? We took our girls to a local children's museum that had an entire play grocery store section and my girls lost their mind and stayed there for forever. We are going to get them this as their big joint present for Christmas:
We already have a play kitchen that they're obsessed with, so it'll be nice to go back and forth between shopping and cooking.

@yerpie110: we just went to someone’s house who had this grocery store and all the kids (mostly 5 year olds) were obsessed. Like my princess loving girl was ignoring princess rapunzel to play grocery shopping. I just added this as a possible gift for my kids.

@Foodnerd81: At the children's museum, my 5yo checked out items at the cashier for well over an hour! Forgoing all other amazing things that were around her. The 2yo just wants to do whatever big sis does, so she stuck along there, too. I thought I had to find something similar and hope that it would keep them as engaged at home (despite knowing it never does)

I’d get her a bike or scooter! My son has been riding a two wheeler since he was 3 (went right from a strider bike to a two wheeler) and we gave my daughter a scooter for her third birthday (mini micro) and she LOVES it!
