Is one supposed to tip at a birthday party? I believe 2 assistants will be running things (it's an open obstacle course/gym and bouncy house type of party, then pizza and cake. 20%?

@Alba4: Yeah I'm in NYC and I can't imagine a 20% tip! The party is over $1,000 (all in) at a play gym! I read $20 and for my sons 1st bday 2 years ago I asked the front desk and they said they've seen $20-50 per person. I think I gave $30. They had like 5 people helping!

Our venue suggested it. Total party cost, incl. kid food they provided (not the adult food or cake we brought) was around $500; I gave each of the assistants $20. I almost didn't tip considering one of my kids fell off the balance beam and broke her arm under their supervision...but felt bad bc accidents happen. I might have tipped more had that not gone down.

I gave $20 to the assistant at our party. She cut the cake and helped me set up a few things but didn't have an involvement with activities or the food or anything.
