My DS2 is 7.5 months old and seems to be a bottomless pit when it comes to eating. He is a large guy (23lbs at 6 months). Lately he has been eating 3 meals of solids plus @40 oz a day of formula. Anyone else out there with hearty eaters?

My DD (22 months) is totally like this. She took to solids like a duck to water and would eat and eat and eat. I nursed her so I don't know what her BM intake was, but at 7.5 months she probably nursed 5-7 times a day and had 3 meals of solids. Her appetite has never slowed down. She eats a lot, and I often wonder where she puts it all because she is quite thin. She pretty much does not stop when she's awake, and she sleeps like a rock for naps and nighttime. I think she just needs all the calories to keep this pattern going. Lol.

@gentlelunette: it's funny- since we've increased his solids, he has been sleeping so much better.

Yup. My DS has been like that since birth. He was a similar size at that age, and it REALLY evened out once he started walking. He's 18m now and 29 pounds. Still big and solid, but he's thinned out a lot.
He still eats everything in sight. There are literally times at dinner that he eats more than I do. And I'm 7m pregnant lol!

My 18 month old weighs 19 pounds, wakes up constantly, and is still labeled as failure to thrive. I am super, super jealous.

I made a tray of breakfast sausage this morning. I had one. My 12 month old and 25 month old each ate six sausages. And a couple eggs and a couple pieces of toast.
I don't know what we're going to do when they're teenagers. $$$

My DD eats like this! I swear it's always "more". She can out eat me often!

@Alba4: I'm sure! Once we were solidly on 3 meals a day plus breast milk, my daughter slept so well. It sounds like your little guy knows exactly what he needs! I bet once he starts walking he'll lean out a bit too (even if that appetitive sticks around!)
@oliviaoblivia: omg! That's crazy! Haha. My DD ate 7 pancakes (probably 3" in diameter) and a yogurt for breakfast on the weekend and I could hardly believe my eyes.

My 16 month old eats so much. I think she eats more than me in a day.
@oliviaoblivia: I was joking with DH that if this next one eats as much as DD we won't be able to save for college!

@Alba4: @sarac: I have one of each and I agree with @sarac...be thankful for the one that eats!

My kid is like this. For breakfast today she ate yogurt, two eggs, 1/4 C of mango, a banana, and 1/4 C of blueberries. Plus some bites of my toast.
Then she was snacking on two strawberries. For lunch had more blueberries, a peanut butter sandwich (one slice of bread), more mango, and tofu.
Then a second snack of cottage cheese and a dinner of stir fried veggies and tofu.
Plus she had 8oz of milk today!
I swear she eats as much as I do, and I'm pregnant!
I basically spend all day feeding her. She was in the 95th percentile but now she's lower because she's growing taller but not gaining weight. I'm actually a little nervous that she has stopped gaining, but I don't see how I could possibly feed her more.

DS is 18 months and he packs it in. Once he's done with meals at home and at school, he goes around to others and tries to eat their food too. Lol. He's like 97th percentile in height, 75th-ish in weight. He's always been a tank

@newlypregnantlady: My kid was like this too- she ate perfectly fine but stopped gaining for a bit and has slowed down weight gain considerably. She has always been 99%+ for height but has dropped percentiles for weight ever since she learned to walk. She is like 75% for weight now at 3.5 and her doctor seemed ok with her size.

We haven't even tried actual food yet but my four month old DS easily drinks 40 oz of formula per day and would probably drink more. He has been like this since about 8 weeks. He seems to eat nearly twice as much as my friends' babies the same age and he isn't even big!!! I can't wait to see what will happen when we introduce solids.

@caterw: so far her ped isn't too worried. I just worry because some days she'll step on our bathroom scale and she'll have lost weight! It's only like a 1/2lb but I still have that mom panic. But people are constantly amazed at how much she puts away. I figure she's saving it up for pickier days ahead.
@smocks: my daughter does this to kids at the park! I have to watch her like a hawk or she'll go steal some poor kid's snack. And she walks up to strangers on the street if they're eating and asks for a bite of their food. It's adorable but also embarrassing.

Glad to hear we're not alone! Today at dinner alone he ate @4 oz of carrots and chicken, 1/2 an avocado, some banana, and a 4 oz yogurt. It's crazy. My older son never had an appetite like this! I guess he's just a good eater!

My LO guy eats so much too. Dinner takes 40-45 minutes. We dropped his fifth bottle once we moved him to BLW table food. Last week when he was sick his appetite plummeted and it was slow to come back. For a minute we thought the change was permanent. Nope! Thank goodness because those days were stressful and wasted so much food.

My 18 month old knows no limits with her eating. She will eat as long as there's food available. I try to figure out what's a reasonable portion size and cut her off once I think she's had enough because she rarely lets us know when she's done and instead usually asks for more.
There have been a few times where we've caved in and given her more and woken up in the morning to find she's blown up her diaper so bad it got all over her crib. So she will eat so much it makes her tummy sick if we don't watch out.
She's 99%+ for height and around 90-95% in weight. She doesn't look overweight or anything, but I do worry that not knowing her limits may lead to some unhealthy eating habits later in life.
