My boys were preemies and in the NICU for a long time, so I used my hospital rental for 6 months. It was an Ameda. Since I had so many spare parts, I didn't want to switch to Medela and buy a bunch of stuff, so I bought the Ameda Purely Yours. So far it's been fine. I pump 3 times daily now, and have been using it exclusively for 5 months now.

I used the Medela Symphony for 9 months and never had any problems. I pumped on average 3 times a day with it. I cleaned the parts regularly. When I wasn't at home to pump, I used the Medela swing, which I could easily carry with me. I never had problems with it either.

I have the Medela Freestyle handsfree.
I've never had problems with it, never had to deal with liquid or mold in the tubing, it has great battery life and is super convenient.

@irene: i have the medela in style (only because i bought it brand new at half price), otherwise i would have gotten the medela freestyle. i pumped like a madwoman with charlie and never had any problems.

you can get mold in the tubing if you use pump parts that are not completely dry and water gets in the tubing. to prevent this, simply allow your pump to run for 10 minutes without the pump parts on to get all the water out of the tubing.

I have both a Medela PISA and the free style. I bought the PISA with my first and used it to pump at work and at home average 3-4 times a day for a year and it still works. When I had my second baby I bought the free style even though I had a working PISA since I knew I was commuting to work I decided to leave the PISA at my desk. I used the free style for a year pumping 2-3 times a day and more on the weekends. If I was going to be out of the house I would just grab it and it could fit in my tote bag. The fact that it ran on rechargeable batteries was a god send. It could easily pump for 6 hours before it needed a charge. As far as milk in the tubes, this only happens when you pump and your milk over flows the bottles. Medela does provide a free set of replacement tubes if you call them and ask for it.

@irene: I loved the freestyle. I would use that over the PISA if I had to choose. I did not have a problem with it diminished supply. When I had my first I used the PISA and could pump per session about 12 oz, using the freestyle I was able to pump 20oz per session, sometimes more. But i really think the difference was that with my first she wouldn't latch had no interest in nursing so I exclusively pumped for her. While my son was just the opposite, he loved to nurse and wouldn't drink from the bottle till I stopped nursing when he turned one. He would only take 2 - 4 oz while at daycare from the bottle, which lead to him wanting to nurse all night long =(
