My high school friend is getting married in June, and I am one of 5 bridesmaids. Her younger sister (younger by about 8 years) is her MOH. Her mother is physically hosting the shower at her home, but the invitation has the bridal party listed as the hosts. Her sister sent out an email today telling us that so far, we each owe $35 for the shower. She wants us to share the cost of plates, cups, decorations, etc. We are all offering to make various food items for the shower, so she wants us to keep our receipts so that we also share the cost of the food. Right now, I'm making one thing - buffalo chicken dip (I offered to make another dip and a quiche, but she didn't take me up on). At this rate, I feel like I'm going to end up paying $80 for buffalo chicken dip!

Is this weird? I've never heard of sharing the cost for supplies, but I can kind of understand it (though, truthfully, I think her mother is being a b* for hosting but expecting us to foot the bill). But really? Sharing the cost for food?

I had to buy my dress, I'll have to get it altered, I'll have to buy shoes, get my hair done, buy a shower gift, but a wedding gift, pay for the bachelorette party...this wedding is going to cost me $1K!!! Am I being unreasonable to think that this is ridiculous? Should I say something?
