Anyone else become a bug magnet while pregnant?
I'm a little over 35 weeks pregnant and today at lunch we sat on the patio. I was being swarmed by little sweat bees the whole time and and no one else in the group was. And now tonight I'm watching DH's tennis match and I'm being eaten alive by mosquitos!
Am I just unlucky today or could this be some sort of hormone/pregnancy thing?

I think it can definitely be pregnancy/hormone related. I'm 17 weeks pregnant and was bit by black flies the other day, and I ended up having an allergic reaction! It's been a few days and they were still red and inflamed and crazy itchy, so I went to urgent care and the doctor told me it was an allergic reaction & that pregnancy hormones can really change your body and how you react to things. I think bugs can definitely be more attracted to you when you're pregnant, too! Probably from all the blood flow going on.

Yep, I totally was during my last pregnancy. I read somewhere that it has to do with increased levels of CO2 since you have more blood? Don't remember where I read that.

Do you have GD? Increased levels of sugar in the blood will cause mosquitos and other bugs to be more attracted to you. I should know, I've been Diabetic for 26 years and always get the most bites of anyone during outdoor activities!

I actually had the opposite thing happen while pregnant! I am normally a bug magnet, but when pregnant, they avoided me!

@curlymama318: Nope - no GD. Who knows - maybe it was just a fluke. But I felt like all bugs were finding me yesterday!

@Mrs.KMM: what @mrs.shinerbock said - you breathe heavier, so you exhale more CO2, which makes you a prime target for the bugs.
