It's time to move my 10 month old into my 4 year old's convertible carseat, so looking for the next seat for my toddler. I'm looking for a seat that still has the 5 point harness but then can convert into a booster. The Britax Frontier has been highly recommended, but it's so expensive and we need two seats, one for each car. Does anyone have something similar to this seat but doesn't cost $300?? Thanks!

Graco Nautilus and Graco Argos are both cheaper, and they both have better ratings on Consumer Reports, especially for safety. I don't have personal experience, though.

We have the Britax Pioneer in both our cars. The seatbelt install is pretty easy for me. (Not as simple as the Frontier...but still easy). I think we got them for ~175 each. I really like it.

You might wait for black Friday/cyber Monday deals. I paid less than $200 for my Diono Radian RXTs on Amazon day.

@Worrywart: What is the expiration on your older son's convertible seat? We have about a 4 year gap between our kids and the convertible expiration was 6 years, so it made more sense to buy new convertible seats for #2, since she would still need the seat when it expired, and keep #1 in his convertible seat and buy simple boosters once he outgrew the convertible. That made a lot more financial sense since we'd be buying once set of convertibles and boosters which are a lot cheaper) vs. combination seats for #1 and then new convertibles for #2. I hope that makes sense.
If you're still looking for a combination seat for your oldest there are lots of great inexpensive options. Harmony defender and Graco tranzitions/wayz are each around $100 and go from a forward facing harness to high back booster to no back booster. Graco nautilus is only slightly more expensive and is also a really popular seat.

@Worrywart: I'm planning to do the same thing and still deciding on our combination seat. But I have seen really good sales on the nautilus on Amazon, so definitely keep an eye on that if you have time before buying.
