We use Zarabees. Works well for us.

I don't have experience with the ones you use, but we also use Zarbees with a warm mist humidifier and baby Vicks on his chest. The combination of all of those really helps his cough at night. During the day, it's hit or miss.

We've tried Hylands nighttime cold and cough and it really helps when LO is sick. It has something in it to make kiddos tired to help them sleep and helps with the coughing. I think its for 2+ too. Got it at cvs.

There's a reason that there are a million different cough formulas. Because there is no evidence that any of them work. A study came out (maybe 2006?) in New England journal of medicine that showed that over the counter cough medicines are not effective in children.

At this point the best we can do is supportive care with moist air, elevating the head of the bed, suctioning if needed, albuterol if your little one has reactive airways.

Sorry to bear bad news. There's nothing worse than when your kid is coughing!

My pediatrician said dimetapp was ok for my 2 year old. He's around 35 pounds and I think gets 1/4 tsp. I always call to check the dosage because I always forget.

@hilsy85: those are the types of things that were tested in the study, unfortunately.

@hilsy85: my pediatrician does not recommend giving cough suppressants because they have not been proven effective.

What did your ped say? I asked when dd had a nasty virus a while back and hB reviews were very mixed!

@hilsy85: Our pharmacist said that it's ok to give a 1/2 a dose of children's Benadryl, and it really does the trick. Otherwise if you have any essential oils, eucalyptus and peppermint work well.

I've tried Zarbee's and while it works for my youngest, it doesn't do a thing for my toddler, I have a friend that swears by Similasan which is ok for 2 and up.

We tried Zarbee's and I don't think it helped at all for his last cough. He was also up all night poor thing.

@hilsy85: We use Chestal, which is what our ped recommends - I think it helps a bit. And J likes the taste a lot. I hope L feels better soon!

@hilsy85: I'm going to try that honey stuff. I also am going to take him in today for the second time this week. His cough sounds awful and he can't sleep. Does your LO go to ny kids club? Maybe they both have the same thing!
