@winniebee: Oh my gosh, this baby can't catch a break!! Poor Ryan! I'm so sorry. I really hope he starts feeling better soon.
BTW, I saw that IG pic of him and he is sooooooo freaking adorable!
pomelo / 5298 posts
@winniebee: It's got to be comforting having a trained professional nearby in the form of DH. I would find huge comfort in that fact. I'm sorry R is still fighting this bug though. I assume he's still sleeping in the RnP? We haven't left the RnP yet because of congestion. I want a bigger one, so K can sleep on an incline forever
I hope tonight is the night that he breaks the cough and fever.

3 mo stats - 12 lbs 2 oz, 22.25" long, 15" head
Ok so I guess the dr we like seeing is out, we get this lady and I did not like her! She said she could be eating 6 oz per meal now and that it may help her STTN and since I wasn't pumping that to just start supplementing (even gave me a can of powder...)
I feel like 6 oz is kinda a lot?! During the day she does 4 oz every 3 hrs or so. And thanks for not helping me to pump more first... ugh!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: I feel like 6 oz is a lot, even for a formula fed baby, and formula fed babies often DO eat more oz. I don't think that pediatrician was well-informed. Sorry you had to deal with that!
ETA: Logan also eats 4 oz every 3 hours and is totally satisfied with that amount!

@winniebee: poor guy!! I hate winter too...it seems as if A is always going to be sick, but Ryan is definitely not catching a break. I hope he gets lots of rest (you too, mama).
@snowjewelz: I would be annoyed by that too. I understand giving her more if she seems hungry, but why increase the amount if she seems satisfied? Not all babies STTN at 3 months! Are there other peds you can see?
honeydew / 7444 posts
Btw I am a loser who accidentally had this board as the only one hidden! I only figured it out recently, and coupled with not getting notifications...explains my MIA. It's going to take me a while to catch up...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: Right?? Ugh. And of course DH had to be there and he's always telling me to supplement too (he comes from a good place since he sees me worry/stress out). He said he's gong to see if she'll eat another oz for now. I rather pump at home & on weekends to make more for now.
@Freckles: Yeah it's a group and I specifically made all her appts with the one we like! I guess they don't tell you if he is out and if we rather reschedule...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Freckles: I was going to say! Where have you been! How's it going!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Freckles: haha, glad to have you back!
@snowjewelz: Ugh, I hate that you were told this and your husband thinks you should try it. The lactation consultant I saw said that babies generally eat 25% more than normal from a bottle because it's soooooo easy and they don't have to work for it like when they nurse. Plus they can drink a bottle in 5 minutes, whereas they might be nursing for 10-20, so they don't realize they are full until they've already had more than plenty to eat. PLEASE don't let other people stress you out! If your baby is gaining weight and not showing signs of being hungry, she doesn't need more!! And if you feed her more during the day just to eliminate a MOTN feed, you might have to get up during the night to pump just to have enough or to keep your supply up.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: Exactly. See only moms get it! I mean DH is supportive, I know he is just saying to supplement so I don't have to get all worked up about my supply... I totally get that coming from someone else's perspective. But no one can truly understand an EBF's mom's perspective! I have nothing against formula at all, since I'm mentally preparing for that in case my supply suddenly tanks and I don't even make the bare minimum. But I feel like there is more I can do to make more milk (if she even needs it).
And yes I strangely don't mind MOTN feeds b/c she is creating demand lol!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: I hear you! I had sooooo many people telling me to supplement with Xander or to start solids early even though he was drinking 5 oz bottles AND STTN! I was like "Why do people think he's hungry???? If he was hungry, wouldn't he wake to eat?? Wouldn't he want to nurse more with me??" It was so frustrating, especially as a first time mom. I'm sorry you're dealing with this because I know just how frustrating and stressful it can be!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: Ok that's just crazy! 5 oz bottles & STTN is like above and beyond so I can't believe you're still being told to supplement?!?!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Yeah, I was told to supplement because Xander was in a low percentile (he was born big, like 75th percentile, but steadily dropped in percentile every month). Everyone that saw him were always like "He's such a big baby!" and then I'd tell them "He's actually only in the 25th percentile" or whatever it was and they'd be all "Oh my gosh, he's so small! Have you thought about supplementing with formula? What about starting solids now?" Mostly I got grief from people who bottle fed him. They'd let him down a bottle in 3 minutes and then he'd still act hungry because, duh, he didn't know he was full yet, so I was constantly being pressured to put more in his bottles or start him on solids so he wouldn't be so hungry.
At 6 months, I finally did a weighted feed with him because he could easily go 3-4 hours between eating when he was with me and he only had 3.8 oz! That's when I felt validated that 5 oz in a bottle every 3 hours was PLENTY and people needed to just learn how to feed him correctly from a bottle and stop giving me grief. But it was definitely 3-4 months of pressure and me feeling frustrated and stressed before I finally felt confident (after the weighted feed) to say "STFU, 5 oz a bottle is plenty, I'm not giving any more than that."
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: Wow thank you for sharing! I am pretty sure she doesn't drink more than 4 oz when I nurse her. Sometimes she even only takes 1 side! Kara is small too but the ped we like has never had issues with her weight since she grows on track on her own curve. Ugh I gotta call and see how I can make sure she only sees that doctor!
And yes I feel like both DH and my mom don't pace feed her. I know she still fights the bottle a lil bit so their mentality is to just let her eat when she will, even though I told them repeated that her downing a bottle in 5 min is like us chugging a milkshake in 2 min...
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@snowjewelz: that's crap... I can't believe she would even tell you to supplement if baby is fine for weight. Our first pediatritian pushed supplementing too, and we gladly switched.
6 oz does seem like a lot. Ethan takes 5 oz 3x /day, sometimes less. If you wanted to try out 6 oz at night just to see if she slept longer, I'd do that but with your own pumped milk. But we had tried supplementing with formula early on and it made no difference in Ethan's sleep.
He did 1 wakeup last night after a 6 hr stretch, so I am happy. I think he's just on his own schedule. They will sleep through the night when they're ready.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: Yes, my pediatrician was like your normal one - she was NEVER concerned about Xander's weight growth and just kept telling me I was doing a great job with nursing/pumping. So it was frustrating when other people gave me grief. You could try to do a weighted feed with an LC. Then maybe you can say to your husband "See? She only drinks x oz from me, so I don't think she needs more in a bottle."
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@josina: Totally off topic, but I wanted to tell you that your new avatar is totally adorable. I'm assuming that's you and your LO?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: I don't think it makes a difference either! Why are some peds so crazy!
@Adira: I had wanted to do a weighted feed so many times just to see but been lazy about it haha! Maybe I will now to prove a point to DH haha!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@snowjewelz: haha, I hear you. It took me months to finally do one and I only did it because I was feeling sooooo pressured and stressed and was starting to doubt myself!!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@Adira: Thanks! Yep, Ethan and I when he was probably a few weeks old.
Makes me wonder if they have to push the formula just because they're getting the samples? Same with the Vitamin D?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@josina: Huh....! I just read online that pediatricians sometimes aren't well trained in all things breastfeeding... Not completely their fault since they have a million other things they need to know about... But then I feel like they should just refer to lactation consultants then instead of saying their own thing! Her regular doctor never made that comment!

@snowjewelz: 6 oz would be quite a lot. My first didn't drink that amount until closer to a year and was formula fed! Sheesh.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: 6 oz seems like a lot. I haven't found pediatricians to be particulatly helpful when it comes to BFing. If baby is growing and content after eating, I would go with your gut!
honeydew / 7283 posts
Interesting to hear everyone's input about bottle sizes. I think J will pretty much take whatever he's offered. He takes it quickly even though we try to pace and he probably doesn't even realize he's full!
persimmon / 1050 posts
We have to break up M's feedings. He's hard to burp sometimes & it causes him lots of unhappiness. He's getting 3-4 ozs at a time of BM. Last pediatrician appt we had, the dr said to decrease to 2-3 ozs more often, but he's not having that. lol
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Ugh, doing a feed at 4:00 am. Haven't had to do one at this time in a while (besides the growth spurt). This sucks.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: Bummer. At least it's a Saturday so maybe you got to go back to sleep without worrying about getting up for work?
J has been waking up at 5:30 and then been up for the day. He's already down for his first nap before M even gets up!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: eek I'm sorry! At least it's weekend! If it was a work say you prob won't even go back to sleep!
K has stopped sleeping before 9! I either put her down and she wakes up, or She fights the whole ~2 hrs and result is same - nurse at 9 to bed. She also has not learned to self soothe whatsoever so are prob looking at sleep training later on for sure.

@snowjewelz: h is the same way!
So, why does Carter's not have any footed pjs in 12 mo size?? The 9 mo are getting snug and I'm not finding footed pjs in 12 mo there, or most other sites I've checked. Any suggestions?? And how is he too big for 9 mo?? I don't think he's a particularly large baby?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@theotherstark: how big is he? I just checked Target.. Seems like thr Just One You by Carter's have footed sleepers in 12 and 18 months!
Gee H and K really are bday twins then lol!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: lol! 5:30 is def way too early! K wakes up by 6:30 no matter what time she gets put down!
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@snowjewelz: weird - I looked at target and didn't see 12 mo! Will check again. Thanks
honeydew / 7283 posts
@snowjewelz: too early indeed! I am TOTALLY not allowed to complain though. He slept through the night 8pm to 5:30am and was up for the morning, so 5:30 it is!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@theotherstark: weird I def have 12 month ones from last time!!
Ryan had a normal night! No crazy coughing fits no fever! I had trouble sleeping due to sinus pain and pressure but at least the baby seems better. Coughing aot today but nights are a start.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MamaG: yes rock n play always! Don't plan to move him til he is rolling and we swaddle wean.

@Adira: 4:00 a.m. feeding is our norm...lol but seems to be the only one lately!
@MrsF: Bottles what are those...lol still on a huge strike, but we will get there!
@MrsF: 5:30 is early, hopefully that first nap is a long one
@winniebee: happy to hear R is on the mend!!! Hopefully he is on his way to healthy!!!
We went out to our first big family dinner out last night, I was scared as we would be out past G's bed routine and she is doing sooo good with it...
She did so good! Up looking at everyone, passed out in car seat at 8 slept whole way home, home by 8:30 so I just changed her nursed her in bed and out...slept until 4 then again till 6:30!
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@winniebee: I know - so strange! None on carters, and at target, kohls, etc, they mostly seem to be unavailable/sold out. Ugh! Glad to hear no coughing fit last night - hopefully he is on the mend. And you too!! Is winter over yet?!
So jealous of all these long stretches all the babes are getting!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@theotherstark: that's so strange! My 2.5 year old still wears footed PJs from Carters, so they're out there somewhere!
