@winniebee: You're amazing! Just one overnight with the kids by myself and I'm cranky. Is he home soon?
I feel the same way about the hunger cues and sleep cues too. It's as if J is a totally different baby this week and I can't read him. If he gets cranky and hasn't eaten in a while I feed him. If he gets cranky and hasn't slept in a while I try to make him sleep. He's always up for eating but I'm pretty much failing in the nap department

@MrsF: hardly amazing. I yelled at my toddler today and he told me I was scary :/. But we are surviving! Headed back to my parents tomorrow through Sunday. Husband arrives home very late Sunday night but has Monday off thankfully!
Oh I should mention that when on bottles Ryan took 4 oz every 3 hours. So....maybe he just takes less per feed when nursing more like 3 oz? Idk all I know is I feel like I offer the boob all the time lol

@winniebee: glad you're going to your parents! Yeah, I feel like I offer the boob all the time too, which is why he will now only nurse to sleep

@FaithFertility: Glad to hear that the mold is contained, but I can see how you're upset. I hope you can get it taken care of fairly easily!
@Miss Ariel: I hope you're all feeling better soon!

@winniebee: these babes are sooo unpredictable G ate
7:40, 10, 12:30, 3:00, 5:30, 7:00 and a top off before bed at 8:00
So not too far off ya

@winniebee: It's so hard not to get frustrated with them sometimes.
M has been sucking on her fingers constantly and instead of wondering why she needs the extra comfort of sucking her fingers I snapped at her "do you need to sit on your hands?". I have no idea why that came out of my mouth, it doesn't sound like me at all. She just looked at me and said "that wasn't a very nice thing to say". She's right - it wasn't.

@MrsF: Thanks us too they are coming back tomorrow to estimate the cost!

Ok I'm glad to see Ryan isn't the only piglet baby around here lately
@MrsF: I laughed out loud at that comment. Sounds like something my second grade teacher (a nun) would say hahah!

@theotherstark: Nurse to sleep before bedtime? Or all sleep?
I still nurse G right before bed, most of the time she is asleep but sometimes she wakes and goes down
Sometimes she falls asleep after nursing during the day if her nap was short or didn't happen, so I just let her fall asleep too

@winniebee: Right?!? Where the hell did I get that from? I usually err on the side of overly sensitive with my kids so that was really strange. Poor kid...

Thanks all for the well wishes. Thankfully K sounded a lot better once I picked her up from daycare. It's definitely my husband whose the worst of us.
And we haven't really decided what we're doing for solids. I'd rather weight till closer to 6 months, but I know my husbands excited to start making baby food. She isn't showing any of the readiness signs yet either. I guess well probably weight 2 weeks till her 4 months appointment and decide from there.

Silly question - are you girls still using nursing pads? I only BF my daughter for 10 weeks so I feel like a bit of a first time mom when it comes to nursing. I've been using them this time and it's just part of my daily routine. Second time mamas - how long did you use them?
nectarine / 2210 posts
@MrsF: I'm still using them, although I'm not sure I need to. But they're washable one and they're so cute I kind of enjoy wearing them!
pear / 1961 posts
@mrsf: most days I don't wear them anymore. The only time I really leak is a bit during letdown. But it barely even wets through the nursing tank. I still wear them if I will be out and feeding her but mostly just in case and because I might as well use up my stash.

@winniebee: is he at the academy meeting? Not many of the fellows here went this year, but most of the attendings did = nice slow week.

@MrsF: aww. n had been sucking on her fingers a lot lately and it makes me sad...like why does she need the extra comfort? How old is m?
I didn't wear nursing pads for that long - maybe a few weeks?

Ok something is going on with G ,up at 12:45, 3 and 6??? Sucking hands/ arm.....lol I gave her the boob each time......she just seemed so HANGRY!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@KayKay: no he's in china doing volunteer arthroplasties at a hospital near Shang hai. I think we are going to aaos next year in Orlando!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: With Xander, I used nursing pads the entire time I was nursing/pumping (so 14 months). I just felt they were more comfortable on my nipples, even though I wasn't leaking.

Sigh. I weighed my daughter today using the same scales as a fortnight ago and she was literally exactly the same. This is the longest we've gone without putting on any weight. I'll weigh her again next week but I'm getting really worried. I am not sure who to turn to... a LC? The doctor? What period of time must pass with no weight gain before doctors recommend starting formula? I'm not saying formula is bad or anything, I have no problem with formula other than it means likely reduction in supply, eventually no more free breast-feeding, no more antibodies being passed on to her.

@Trufflehunter: I have no idea....is she eating, having wet diapers and such like normal?
grape / 96 posts
@FaithFertility: yes, she eats the same frequency as she has when she's been gaining. She has wet diapers all the time however I have noticed a pretty radical decrease in poopy diapers, where about 16 days ago she went suddenly from having a poopy diapers almost every change to only one a day and now she has not had a BM since Monday but I have read this can be normal so I'm not stressing too much about that on its own.
pomegranate / 3045 posts
@MrsF: I definitely still have to use them; otherwise I'd be a mess!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Trufflehunter: What kind of scale are you using to weigh her? Weight gain DOES slow down around now, though shouldn't stop completely. Are your sure your scale is accurate? If it's not an infant scale, maybe you can see about visiting an LC or a pediatrician just to get an accurate weight.
And going days without a poopy diaper is definitely normal for a breastfed baby. As long as she's having plenty of wet diapers, she's probably getting enough, but I'm definitely not an expert. If you're really set on breastfeeding, I'd maybe look into setting up an appointment with an LC now.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@Trufflehunter: A poops once a week so I would try not to worry! I would also make sure to use a baby scale. I did weighted feedings, weighing LO before and after feeds to see how much they got, and did it over a 2 day period. Then I went to see a LC with that info on hand.
@MrsF: she will be 3 in two weeks. Nothing has worked.
pear / 1961 posts
@winniebee: ah. we may go next year too, since it can pull double-duty as a disney trip!
@trufflehunter: welcome! i've also got an infrequent pooper e goes maybe once a week...sometimes over 10 days without. it makes for some pretty catastrophic diapers by the end...and i have a hard time blaming the diaper for not containing it! ha.
Trying out the zipadeezip for morning nap today her swaddle wrap is in the wash. She's wiggling around a lot, but has been relatively quiet. Not rolling yet, so we're not forcing the transition out of the swaddle, but might be nice if we can do it slowwwwwly.

@MrsF: I'm still using nursing pads- I usually only leak during letdown but sometimes it happens randomly so I just keep using them.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsF: I am, mostly for at night but sometimes I let down randomly a lil so just to be safe!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Miss Ariel: my husband too! why are they excited?! i am excited to see her reaction to it!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Freckles: I don't think it's b/c they don't get enough comfort from us! it's just what they do! for K it's def no longer a hunger cue b/c she will suck on her hands right after she is done eating, pretty much every change she gets since she wears the merlin suit and can't do it at night!
Oh wait, are you talking about your older one? My mom said I sucked my fingers till like 4-5...
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Trufflehunter: Do you weigh her all the time? Cause sometimes her weight can fluctuate just based on whether you weigh her after she ate one day and before she eats another... Or if she just pooped or something...
If you are really worried I'd weigh her at the doctors too, so you an check against your own #. And then also ask if you can do a weighted feed there! Do you pump/give her bottles at all?
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@MrsF: I stopped wearing them maybe at 1m? I leak a little when I let down over night but it's not a huge issue during the day and I just don't like the feel of the pads.
honeydew / 7283 posts
Pretty sure I'm only still wearing nursing pads out of habit I didn't wear them overnight last night and didn't have any leaking. I think I'll still wear them to work because I sometimes have to go way longer than I like between pumping depending on what's going on with my patients. I would hate to be walking around with big giant wet spots on my scrubs!

M had his 4 month appt yesterday. 25 in long & 17 lbs 2 ozs and doing great. He cried for a couple of minutes after his shots, but a bottle & the car ride home calmed him down.

@Adira: I used the baby scales at my local child health centre, then I went to the pharmacy and used their to check if they were calibrated the same because a fortnight ago I used the pharmacy ones. They were out by 40g so nothing really. Thanks for replying. I'll book an appt with a LC if after a further week there is nothing or only negligible gain.
@freckles what happened when you saw the LC? What stage were you at with your LO?
@kaykay: thanks
@snowjewelz: no, I don't give bottles as a rule, although while I was at training last night my husband and MIL decided to give her two bottles of EM which she took. Normally she is hit or miss taking bottles. Why do you ask?
I have read that weighted feedings are notoriously unhelpful. But have you experience with it?
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: K has pretty much refused to actually sleep her long stretch till like 9-10 these days too. I put her down around 7-7:30 and she treats it like a nap!
