Oh man,it hasn't even been two hours since I last fed Logan and he's up again. It's going to be a long night...

I'm having so many problems with breastfeeding. I'm having a burning/stinging pain in both breasts and nipples. Also some redness. Micah's latch seems to be right though. I'm thinking maybe thrush?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: Oh no! I don't have any experience with thrush, but I hope not!
@BandDmommy: And I'm up again!
nectarine / 2053 posts
@Adira: maybe not! He's eating fine now and I'm not experiencing pain.
nectarine / 2053 posts
Also it's 3:00am and Micah has been nursing since 2:30 and is still going full swing. So happy he's eating plenty!

@whenoceansrise: I experienced some pretty intense pain when nursing Xander. It just took a while for my nipples to get used to breastfeeding. Hopefully that's all it is for you. Glad to hear he's nursing well now and it's not hurting.

@Adira: hoping its that and doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I took a pain pill before sleep!

@josina: same here! I had 4 oz, she ate 2, I pumped another 2... Was hoping for more! She is still eating like crazy tonight!
@Adira: @BandDmommy: ugh I feel your pain. She has been nursing nonstop, I got a good stretch after giving her 2oz of pumped milk and now she is up every 2 hrs again!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@whenoceansrise: I had some pains too that I thought was thrush but it went away. Just make a list to make sure you ask the ped!

Anyone know when a good time to start pumping is? I want to build up a good stash before I go back to work.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
Can I just start drinking mothers milk tea or do I need to ask doc first? My sil gave me some recently.

@snowjewelz: yeah I can't wait for our appointment on Monday! I have so many questions!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@whenoceansrise: I think everything I've read says to wait till you establish your supply first, ~ 4 weeks. I've pumped a few fimes so far due to engorgrment and missing nursing sessions due to supplementing. I wasn't going to start pumping regularly till 1 month but I might need a boost in my supply if she keeps eating this way!

@whenoceansrise: yeah last appt I whipped out a huge list of questions I had

@Adira: Same!!!! We are up again too! I think her tummy is. Upset she had a poop at 5:00 a.m. So almost 24hrs ago....my milk came in full force yesterday, so I'm thinking that is a change, if no poops by our next feeding I'm calling just to make sure....
She is a boob gal

@whenoceansrise: ohhh my right nipple kills for a minute or two at first!
Our home visit is Monday I can't wait either

@whenoceansrise: I started pumping right away. I only pump once a day and it's right after I feed her.

@FaithFertility: how old is your LO? I can't remember but the hospital gave us chart showing how many wet and poopy diapers per day based on age.

@BandDmommy: nope and she is feeding good, I can hear het swallowing
nectarine / 2210 posts
@FaithFertility: our dr has said 4 wet and 4 poop diapers day 4. But at our 4 day appt she said that that from there thinks would change and potentially one poop diaper or 5 or 6 could be normal.

For those with a little older babies when did they figure out days and nights. Ryan is 12 days old and other than a few nights a week ago where he slept 3 hours, it's a struggle to even get 2 hours from him at night -- last night he woke up twice after just an hour. I wake him every 2-2.5 hours during the day to eat but he sleeps very well all day. Thanks!

@FaithFertility: I'd call OB, that's awhile to go without a poop at her age.

@winniebee: she seemed to get it when she was around a month. Having a loud toddler helps.

@winniebee: sounds like H at night. Last night was rough! Hoping our guys get the days and nights figured out soon.

Tired mama today! Ethan was wide awake till midnight wanting to nurse nonstop. I nursed for an hour and a half and then supplemented. After that up every 2 hours. Another Christmas today and I'm afraid tonight will be the same.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: @theotherstark: Still waiting for Logan to figure it out too. Last night was one of our worst nights. He's 3 weeks.

@BandDmommy: hoping E figures out his nights nd days soon then, 3-1/2 weeks today. I want week one back where he was going 4 and 3 hour stretches.

@winniebee i'm not sure E has ever had hers mixed up. she pretty much just ate/slept round the clock for the first 2-3 weeks. she just always wanted to sleep with a human pillow. now she is better in her bassinet and getting to a couple longer stretches, but still usually 3ish hours between feeds, day or night. and no random wakeful periods at night.
with K, i think it was around 3-4 weeks when she finally got her days and nights straightened out. we ended up co-sleeping for about 2 weeks around then, and it was wonderful to finally be getting better sleep!
pomelo / 5660 posts
@josina: maybe try and keep him awake for hour or so between stretches during the day? That should help him figure things out. With D, I will do tummy time or loudly interact with her. I don't keep her up longer than 2 hours though.

I just got a new ring sling.... Sooo excited! I'll take pics and share. I've been lusting over one. If I like it, I may try and talk hubby into a second. Babywearing stuff is soooo expensive!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
I keep saying I have to try out the carrier! I have a beco something that someone gave me.
Ugh after nursing a billion times K would only sleep on me and putting her down is always a 50/50 gamble! I lost so it was another round of nursing and trying to make her comfy. I guess they fight sleep too during growth spurt?!

@BandDmommy: how exciting! C LOVES ours. It's a Maya wrap I found still in its packaging at our church garage sale for $5! DH was pleased it was such a steal since we already had 2 k'tans and a Beco. The Maya seems to be C's fave though so far.
