@whenoceansrise: We had to convert already... not fun. Hence mostly co-sleeping now. Hopefully you can postpone by lowering the crib again!
pear / 1961 posts
@whenoceansrise: we never use the middle level of the crib because i'm too lazy to move it down twice! we use the top/bassinet level until they can sit/stand, and then just drop it all the way down. i'm surprised he lasted this long!
@mamag: @mrsf: i think the difference between FTM and second/third/etc time when it comes to potty training is actually really funny! i mean, i remember feeling with K like "OMG! she is talking about pee and poop and is clearly ready to train! maybe we should try this RIGHT NOW (at like 18m)" and yeah, maybe we could've been relatively successful, but it would've taken awhile and she still wouldn't have been able to go by herself (pants down in time? no way!), and dealing with going out in public/travelling/etc, and who knows when nap/overnight would've happened....NO THANKS! and now that I know that all, I'm like....meh, we'll train E when she's 5 haha. that being said, she does insist on sitting on the potty every time i change her diaper.

What else has everyone been up to? E has been doing a half-day "summer camp" at the community center. While most of the similar-aged children are crying at drop-off or upset for awhile after their parent leaves, E just waltzes right through the door, sits at the little table, and demands a "NACK!" It's pretty hilarious, and also awesome, and I'm beginning to think we should've stopped while we were ahead with this kid
eggplant / 11861 posts
@KayKay: Awwww I like "Nacks" too K!
G is doing great! Many more No's and Mine, but she will recorrect herself when I try to get her to say No thank you or please! So over all I think she is learning!
I think I was all ready to train a month ago, but like u said if we can't do it 100% I'm waiting!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@KayKay: Absolutely! Diapers FTW And they can stay in a crib pretty much forever, thank you very much.
@KayKay: That's great that there's a summer program that E can do. M is doing summer camp 2 days / week (same as her preschool) so that gives me some one on one time with J, which is nice. We're going to the Cape in a couple of weeks for 5 days or so with my family. It's so much fun to see the kids enjoying the same things that I remember from my childhood there. On the other hand, it's really hard to take care of J in a non baby proofed house (have I mentioned that he is an ANIMAL?), so we'll see how I'm feeling after the trip.
@whenoceansrise: Oh no
persimmon / 1050 posts
@whenoceansrise: Oh no! M is still in a PnP, so no escaping yet.
@KayKay: We leave tomorrow for a 3 week trip...going to SC & taking M to Disney in FL for a few days. Hopefully it's a fun trip! Then we we get back, he comes back to music classes & hope to start swim lessons soon.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@AngelicOne: Have a wonderful trip!!!!! We just did SeaWorld today!!!!!! It's brutal hot, but doable! Disney has many attractions/lines that are covered(thankfully)
We drank 20 water bottles and ate watermelon....lol
She did great! Me I was done by 3:30 being pregnant, but felt great, other than my hips!
Have a blast!
persimmon / 1050 posts
@FaithFertility: G looks like she had fun according to the FB pics. We're trying to decide if we want to do SeaWorld on Fri while in FL since we have nothing planned that day.
pear / 1961 posts
@angelicone: a 3wk vacation (ok, trip...haha...) sounds awesome! we really need to get K to Disney (E could care less so far, honestly) sometime soon since she is SO into everything now, but with this baby due in early Dec, I think it's probably not happening until next spring.
@faithfertility: E loves "FEESH" too -- i bet seaworld was a blast!
@mrsf: cape sounds lovely. hopefully all of the fresh sea air gives you some looooong naptimes for J the Animal

@KayKay: we had been planning a trip to Disney world for this December with my sil. But with us expecting in October and now her in December, it doesn't look like it's happening. Maybe next year...
honeydew / 7283 posts
@AngelicOne: Have a great trip!
@FaithFertility: From your pictures it looked like G was having a blast
@KayKay: I'm sure M would love Disney too (omg princesses), but I think we'll wait until we're done with babies and they're a bit older.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@AngelicOne: Do it he would LOVE it!
@Miss Ariel: Yep we planned Disney this Nov well now with AJ in Oct I think we are going to wait another year!!
@MrsF: She did! And slept 8:15-7:30 no MOTN crash our bed.......hahhahaha

I finally lowered Ks crib all the way. I've caught her too many times with her leg on the top edge.
We head out of town later this week. I'm not really looking forward to flying without the security of a pacifier.
nectarine / 2210 posts
@MamaG: we waited till after our vacation to take the pacifier away. But since then it's gone really well, although we're still using them for sleep.
Also I found I yesterday my inlaws had already talked to dh and lending us a toddler bed they have so the crib could be used for the new baby. I'm really hesitent to use it though since her sleep had been so good, but we'll see...
Also in general life news, I'm guessing everyone had heard about the craziness in Baton Rouge this weekend.... The police shooting was actually only blocks away from my office. Surprisingly all the roads were open this morning, although according to a coworker there are still tons of reporters out there. It really has been a crazy few days lately.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@Miss Ariel: I was thinking about you yesterday as we heard the news about Baton Rouge. It's mind boggling as we are still reeling from the shootings here in Dallas. These people scare the hell out of me. We are travelling to Wisconsin later this week and I'm not completely on board with the Milwaukee County sheriff that is making a name for himself. I saw him last night for the first time and he scares me too. I told my husband it's just a matter of time before Milwaukee makes the news.
@FaithFertility: I say a prayer for your badge wearing husband every morning. Are they patrolling in pairs now? As of yesterday it's mandatory here in Dallas and Fort Worth. Not sure about all the surrounding suburbs.
eggplant / 11861 posts
@Miss Ariel: Prayers to your city, it is such a mess!!!!! My heart breaks and I am so scared!!!!
eggplant / 11861 posts
@MamaG: That is so kind thank you!
I am not aware if they are in pairs yet, but many things have changed!
He THANKFULLY is stationed in booking at the jail for a few weeks so no patroling!
I like it that way, it is definitely getting crazy!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@Miss Ariel: So scary and sad.
@FaithFertility: I think of you often also, such a scary time to be a police officer (or his wife!!).
Prego mama's ... does this exhaustion end? Almost 9 weeks, I don't remember being this tired with E! Of course I actually got 8 hours of solid sleep back then.
pear / 1961 posts
@josina: I felt WAY better starting around 13-14w. I still took naps most days but they were usually shorter and by choice (not bc I felt like I had to). I am 20w now and haven't napped a wink the last 3 days so yes, it does get better! But I'm still more tired than I was my earlier pregnancies, I think!
nectarine / 2210 posts
@MamaG: @FaithFertility: @josina: thank guys! It's been a crazy few days.
@josina: the exhaustion is crazy. Even now I'm not necessarily that tired, but after I put K to sleep I'm just done and want to collapse on the couch watching tv the rest of the night. Sadly I'm guessing that this is just going to become the new normal and we'll just get better at dealing with it....
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@KayKay: Oh man, hoping for that!! Weekend naps are the best.
@Miss Ariel: Very true! Its amazing what we can get used to really.

Ethan SUCKS at sleep right now, help!
Last night bed at 9, had to lay with him a bit at 10:30 when he woke up. In our bed by 12 and periodically up from 1 till 5 and then up for day at 6:15.
I can't take it anymore and NEED my sleep. I might as well have a 4 month old again!
He takes a 3 hour nap at daycare, is that too long? (12 to 3). Considering getting the pack & play out since thats what he sleeps in at daycare (and would hopefully keep him in his room). Or we can just shut his door and keep putting him back in bed. Need to suck it up and make a change though.
pear / 1961 posts
@josina: i wouldn't say 3hrs is necessarily too long, but if you think it might help his nighttime sleep, you can always ask them to just have him down 1-3 or 12-2. it's worth a shot!? E takes somewhere between 2-3hr naps most days and sleeps straight overnight (730ish til 7ish), but she has always been a sleepyhead!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@KayKay: My child hates sleep apparently, unless he's at daycare. I'm sure he needs that three hours but if it gets us more sleep at night, maybe we'll try it for a few days just to see. Blech.
I think we need to do some sleep training again as much as I don't want to CIO, i think it might be necessary at this point.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@KayKay: Haha, I am not excited to jump into potty training at all with K! I think I might be more eager to with DD2 just so we're all done w/ diapers
@whenoceansrise: Oh no! Have you decided to transition?
@MrsF: The Cape will be so nice!
@AngelicOne: Wow, have so much fun!!
@FaithFertility: I can't imagine how brutal the heat was! We were outside for 4 hours on Sunday and I had to take a day off yesterday lol! And I am so coming to Disney with you, haha!
@MamaG: I am guilty of totally still giving her paci at home. Apparently she stopped using it at school! So we kept saying we should just get rid of it at home! I am def procrastinating...
@Miss Ariel: Yes, I was thinking of you!! Crazy that it was so close to your work
@josina: I'm 15+5 and still pretty exhausted. Most nights and neglect my husband and go to sleep with DD. I get like 8-10 hours and I am STILL tired!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsScallop: @winniebee: @Adira:
Hope you ladies are doing well!
pomelo / 5298 posts
@josina: I agree the three hour nap might be messing with overnight sleep. K naps 1.5-2 hours most days. Daycare naps are typically about 1.5 hours. She's in her bed with the door closed and lights out at about 7:30 every night. I usually will see her start to stir in the morning at about 6:30, but we don't get her until 7:00.
Is he still in a crib? I cant remember if you moved to a toddler bed already. What's causing all of the wakings? Is it him getting out of his bed? White noise?
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@MamaG: We had to switch to a toddler bed already b/c he was climbing out. We don't have a rail on his bed so I should get one asap in case he's falling out (but thats definitely not every wake-up)
I think we just got in a bad habit with his separation anxiety, laying with him till he falls asleep, so once he wakes up and sees we're not there he comes to find us.
pomelo / 5298 posts
@josina: I can say that we seem to have moved beyond separation anxiety in the past two weeks! K doesn't cling to me when I rock her at night like before. She will raise her head to look at me and I ask if she wants to get in her bed and she nods. In she goes and that's it. We also stopped with crying at daycare drop off in the same time period. At daycare we walk in, I put her stuffed cat in her cubby (she can't reach), she reaches up for me to give her a hug and then she can be directed to sit down for breakfast.
So whatever her separation problem was, she seems to be over it (thank goodness!).
When we moved C to her toddler bed (she was older than E), we told her the first day that she couldn't get out of her bed without calling for us. She did a couple of times and we put a childproof cover on the door knob inside her room. That was the end of it for her. Even now at almost 5 she will call for us to get up unless it's 7:00am, then she will get up on her own and come to our room. It has it's pros and cons, but the pros are heavier for me.
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@MamaG: Aww, so cute that she gives you a hug at drop off. E's separation anxiety was really only a couple weeks, but he still cries if we leave the room at night (just doesn't throw a all-out fit at bedtime). I think we need to just suck it up (despite his tears) and stick to leaving him to fall asleep alone.
Always easier said than done.
Basically I know WHAT I need to do, just don't want to do it.
Dh's answer to keeping him in his bed was to wait till he's old enough to talk/understand when we say he has to stay put. But really, when is that??
nectarine / 2053 posts
@snowjewelz: No, we're still trying to hold off on that. M has only climbed out of his crib when we first put him in and he doesn't want to go to sleep. He hasn't ever tried it MOTN or in the mornings so right now DH is just sits in his room with him until he falls asleep.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@whenoceansrise: Hehe, much easier than transitioning! Hopefully M gets the message!
persimmon / 1328 posts
@snowjewelz: aw, thanks for checking in! We are ok here. I feel even busier than usual as we are going without a nurse this week. There may be an excess of tv, but I am not letting myself worry about it too much as I am home alone with both kids all day. Charlie is in a major mommy mood trying to finish cutting 2 molars and a canine, Poor DH seems hurt when only a mommy cuddle can calm Charlie down.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MrsScallop: Aww! I just saw your FB update too. It is really tough when all they want is mommy! I hope the kids are good for you this week and that it goes by quick and you get help back! They don't arrange for temp help? Or is it pointless to teach somehow how to take care of Charlie for just 1 week?
eggplant / 11861 posts
@josina: Ohh man I am so sorry! I know how tired you are being PG and it is absolutely no fun! I hope the exhaustion passes soon, mine seemed too around 12-13 weeks or as @Miss Ariel: said we just got used to it
I will say I feel way better now then I did with G at this time. No swelling (Knock on wood) and more energy!
In regards to E's sleep if he is like G a 3 hr nap would make her stay up until 11 or snot sleep I feel. The longest she naps ever is 2 hrs, with a RARE occasion!
At daycare she is usually 12:30-1:30/2
Her night sleep is 8/8:30-7:00/7:30
She is still waking MOTN to come in our room too and that is just a battle we are not willing to fight yet! She will STTN for a night then be n our room the next night, no pattern I see!
@MrsScallop: G is MAJOR Mommy lately too! I think it is the summer and be being off and around more! I can't leave the room for a second sometimes! My DH gets very hurt I think when she needs a Mommy cuddle too and tells him "NO!" when he tries to help her!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@FaithFertility: Disney cruises are leaving from NY starting next year! But they are super $$ so I am def hoping to take the girls to Disney in the next couple of years! I may wait longer than you tho since we're far away!
