We have a 3-year-old Rottie mix. He injured one of his front dewclaws yesterday and it seems to be pretty painful. I have a vet appointment later today, but I wanted to see if anyone has experience with this. This is the fourth or fifth time he has broken that same dewclaw in the year that we've had him, so I'm wondering if we should have it removed. From what I've read online, it's a lot more invasive (and therefore $$$) to remove them in adult dogs. Thoughts or experiences, anyone?

Obligatory picture. We put a sock on his foot overnight to keep him from licking it to death.
