We were throwing around the idea of using Raylan if we ever have a boy (from Justified). I've never heard the name outside of the show but we both really like it!
Anyone name their LO after a celebrity or character?

No but we've been asked if R was named after a popular actress. We say we just loved the name!

I love the name Marlo for a girl. My SO and I reaaally love the show Suits, and in one of the episodes it comes out that our favourite character, Louis Litt's middle name is Marlow(e). We both cracked up! It really sealed the deal for me I sure hope we have a girl.

@swedishfish: I love her name too!
People ask all the time if we named her after a political figure, um no.

Yes. Brady Anderson was one of my husband's favorite baseball players growing up and is well known as an upstanding guy in our community. If B was a girl, he was going to be Camden Rose because of Camden Yards. My husband is a bit of a baseball freak.

Our nickname for Xander is from Buffy (though don't tell anyone)!

We are very likely naming our son after a Beatle at DHs request...

@Adira: I always thought it would be fun to name twins Anya and Alex for this reason

Well, I heard L's name from a movie (August Rush) and fell in love with it. I don't know if that means I named her after that character? I didn't particularly LOVE the character and need to name my child after her, just thought the name was pretty.

Sorta! The main character from the show Torchwood has the shortened version of LO's name. I really like the character, and I really liked the name!

@JennyPenny: OMG, yes!!! That would be so cute! And really subtle too!
@Bookish: LOVE Torchwood, so I approve!

@PermaStudent: Why have we never discussed Suits? LOVE!
People often assume that we have a thing for JFK/the Kennedys...but nope, not particularly. Just liked the name.

People think I'm a huge Downton Abbey fan. I'm a fan, but DD's name came first for me.

My son is named after a biblical character, but not sure if thats what you mean

@PermaStudent: I love this lol Louis is definitely one of my favorite characters on the show.

@rahlyrah: I love this! My husband is also a huge Os fan. We are not using Cal, though!! If he wanted anything, that is what he would want.

No, and as a matter of fact, we vetoed a lot of names because they reminded us too much of an iconic celebrity or character.
That's not to say that we wouldn't name our kid the same name as a celebrity, as long as the name wasn't ONLY known as a celebrity name.
For example (and these aren't real names we considered, I'm just using them, we might go with a name like Olivia or Nicole, because while there are celebs and characters with those names, they're also just regular names. But we'd never name a kid Miley or Gwyneth or Katniss because those are ONLY known as celebrity or character names.

Not really but DH liked the name because of a character from Six Feet Under.

We heard CS name while watching the movie Layer Cake. She's not named after the character, but that movie put the name on our radar.

I think there is a difference between naming a baby AFTER a celebrity, and hearing the name from a celebrity and using it because you like it.
For example, you could name your kid Maya after Maya Angelou because she was an awesome person and you wish your child to embody some of her traits and honor her as a person.
or
You could name your child Gwyneth because you think it is a unique and pretty name. Maybe you first heard the name in the context of Gwyneth Paltrow, but not because you want to honor her.
I love the name Norah because I like how it sounds and it is a family name on my side. My DH has liked the name since he first listened Norah Jones. So we will probably use the name but she's not named "after" Norah Jones.
So if someone asked, "Is she named after Norah Jones?" I would say, "No."
But if someone said, "Like Norah Jones?" I would say "Yes"
It's just semantics really, sorry for rambling!

I always loved the name Drew for a girl and clearly thats after drew barrymore!

Lo's name is the same (though spelled differently) as a character on Grimm but it's a family name, not from the show
Eta also a twilight character but it's def not after that!

@rahlyrah: I love B's name anyway, but I love it even more knowing the meaning behind it!

@rahlyrah: Another wife of a baseball fanatic here! Our future little boy will likely be named Nolan for this reason. And my DH has brought up Brooks, too!
@LovelyPlum: Cal Ripken Jr. is my DH's favorite player, I think. No way I'd agree to use Cal, though. DH likes the name "Clete" which is also a baseball name. Ugh.... I just want Jack.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: my husband and I have the same names as the Kennedys.
LO1 shares his name with a member of Kiss. It wasn't intentional and we almost didn't name him that because of it. But then we figured that was stupid and he shouldn't have claim over a name we loved!
Lo2's first and middle name is the same as the Xavier guy in Xmen. Which wasn't intentional but DH was really excited about when he realized it.

Thor Hershov was the Inspiration for our sons name. He just retired but he was huge during the 2011 Tour de France. We loved the name but they don't pronounce it the same in America so we spelled it frenetically.

No LOs yet, but I'm named after my Grandma's favorite Soaps Star on Guiding Light. Thanks grandma!

No, but I've gotten ideas for names from shows. We love Brennan for a boy, and it first occurred to me while watching Bones (it's the last name of the female lead).

Yep, Joel is after Joel from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Love that movie.

No. Although I watched a ton of Grey's Anatomy while on bed rest and ended up using the same name as a charater on the show... It was not a name we had ever discussed before! *shrugs*
grapefruit / 4089 posts
@petunia354: I'm curious to know which one! I love a couple of names from Grey's, but my SO has vetoed because he knows exactly where they come from and he isn't a fan. Lame.
@namaste: He is so good! Haha
pear / 1639 posts
@swedishfish: Ditto!
(ps. I got slightly freaked out when she had that run in with the cops a month or two before the girls were born! I didn't want her to turn into a Lindsey Lohan right before I was using the name--even though it wasn't inspired by her.)

Not purposely, but the name first came on my radar because of a character on a show.

@TemperanceBrennan: yeah that's what I actually meant! Didn't word it properly
