Was there anything you did, or ate, that encouraged labour? Come 36 weeks I want to get this kid out, since s/he will be full term.

nope! I did everything, including a desperate attempt going down a bumpy slide at a kid's playplace. I was induced at 41 weeks.

@babycanuck: When I opted to try a cervical ripener at 40&3 he came about 3 hours later.

I have no idea if this affected my labor, but the night before my water broke, I used evening primrose oil (vaginally, at my midwife's recommendation). It's funny because I bought a whole thing of it and only used one capsule. I was not looking to start labor yet (I was 39 weeks and still doing ok) but my water broke the next morning. I had also been drinking raspberry leaf tea for about a week as well (also a rec from my midwife).
Also this is such a cliche but it happens that I ate spicy food the night before as well.

Nope. Hypertension and protein in my urine tipped me to an induction past my due date!

I used homeopathics, recommended by my midwife. I believe it was black and blue cohosh tablets, plus raspberry leaf tea, walking, bouncing, evening primrose oil, pumping, sex, everything. She was born at 41 weeks.

I had just come back from a trip, and I've since had several nurses say they see that a lot. So you could travel! Don't really recommend it though.

The day I went into labor I walked A LOT, ate tacos, and bounced on a yoga ball. But it was also my due date...

Walking, bouncing, sex, pineapple, RRL tea, pumping.. none of that worked, she was born at 41 weeks!

I did acupuncture for a few days before and evening primrose oil every night from 38w. My DD was born on her due date.

@babycanuck: I ate a whole pineapple core at 37 weeks and my water broke that night. My Lo has acid reflux and spend most of her day uncomfortable. I can't help but wonder if I had not wished her to come. Earlier than 40 weeks would her system have matured more to where she wouldn't be in pain. I share this with you to see the bright side of keeping that baby safe inside

@Elizabear: thank you for your insight. I think because I've had hyperemesis and been so sick that I just want the baby out at full term. This is my first and last and I guess I didn't estimate that so much internal maturity could happen in those last four weeks. They really should say you're pregnant for ten months, not nine.

@babycanuck: I was so mad when I found out 9 months was a damn myth! Liars!! I'm sorry you've had such a rough time of being pregnant.

@babycanuck: I delivered at 40+6 and my two best friends had their babies at 36 and 38 weeks...this is totally anecdata but both of theirs had some pretty serious reflux issues and were very easily overstimulated, whereas my son did not. Totally just 3 individual cases though!! Also, I didn't have to deal with HG or anything beyond regular late pregnancy uncomfortableness, so I wasn't as eager to get him out.
What put me into labour (though who the hell really knows) was: sex twice the night between 40+4 and 40+5 (nearly killed me and no fun was had by me AT ALL), walking 6km the morning of 40+5, membrane sweep & stretch (a particularly violent one, it felt like) around 2pm, a super spicy vindaloo for dinner. Was in full blown labour at midnight. I was 6 days late already though, so it may have just happened naturally.
Good luck!!! I hope baby comes soon for you.

Nothing worked for me - I tried pretty much everything and ended up in labor on my due date. And it wasn't after doing anything, I woke up in labor. I get the misery, because I had HG plus gestational diabetes, but why do you say baby will be full term at 36 weeks?? That seems quite early. 37 is the earliest I've ever heard, although lately it has been changed to 39.

Acupuncture may have worked for me. I got a labor stimulating treatment at 39 weeks and went into labor the next day.

Tried walking lots, eating spicy Indian food, bouncing on a ball, massage and a pedicure, and the only thing that worked was sex. At 40+4, we had sex in the wee hours of the morning, lost my mucus plug, and then 45 mins later my waters broke and labour started. Less than 12 hrs after that, my baby was in my arms.

I was 4-5cm dilated at 40+1 and it still took 3-4 days of walking, bouncing, toddler-nursing, a sweep and finally acupressure before I finally went into labour!
