When you were in school, did you typically bring a lunch or did you buy lunch at school? In elementary school I brought my lunch almost always, but in high school I would buy lunch or skip lunch altogether.

I was on the free lunch program, so I got the hot lunch everyday.

I bought school lunch in elementary and early middle. I didn't eat lunch from late middle- nearly the end of high school. When/if I did, I bought lunch at school.

I only had school lunch on fridays. the rest of the week I brought in a packed lunch

My mom packed my lunch every day except for one day a week when I could buy the hot lunch at school. She says she doesn't know what she would have done had I been born in today's times as all I would eat is a peanut butter sandwich and the elementary schools in our area are all peanut-free now!

@Bao: we went to a private school & hot lunch wasnt offered. Everyone brought their lunch.
But in HS, I drove so they'd let us leave campus & I'd hit up Taco Bell, like everyday. -
I brought my lunch until senior year of high school.

I bought lunch in elementary school. Then when I was in middle school my parents said the lunches were too expensive, so I brought my lunch. I switched schools for high school and went back to buying my lunch.

@Bao: we were 300 students total! So they were lax:) I feel like private school trust the kids more? They shouldn't; but I believe they do.

A little of each. In high school I bought lunch from the vending machine a lot...Doritos and candy was so much more delicious than mystery meat. Healthy, too!

In elementary and middle school, I normally ate the school lunch unless I didn't like what was on the menu, then I'd ask my parents to pack me something. In HS, I always just bought the "school lunch" because each day we had regular school lunch line, a salad bar line, and various lines for "catered in lunches" (i.e. Subway, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, etc).

I always went off campus and bought fast food. Every day.

Both. In elementary school, I took a dehydrated ice cream bar for lunch one day, (like astronaut food), which got everyone's attention... but I became somewhat of a legend when I lost a baby tooth while eating it! Best lunch ever!!

I did hot lunch in elementary school. Much like @tororojo, I discovered middle school vending machines so lunch was usually a bag of Doritos and a Snapple or Fruitopia (remember that stuff?!). High school was always off campus fast food. I miss my 17 year old metabolism :)
