I definitely did not. I had a rough delivery (and recovery) and DS did as well (he was born with a collapsed lung). I didn't want to get dressed in real clothes, was breastfeeding around the clock, my house wasn't as clean and visitor-friendly as I would have liked.

I let it all hang out while I'm home, so I don't like the thought that someone might show up while I'm sitting on the couch with my boobs hanging out. I prefer if someone is going to visit they wait till the weekend when Hubs is home and he can entertain if I need to be upstairs nursing (or sleeping!).

As for texting, send her a text and say "Thinking of you! Would love to come visit when it's convenient!" Leave it at that and let her make the next move. I have a friend who texted me every day for the first week I was home - not to check in but to keep asking when she could visit. She also called a few times. And when I didn't respond, she emailed me! I finally emailed her back and basically said I've got a newborn and am trying to adjust to life with 2 kids and please back the eff off.

I liked it for the most part, I just wish they hadn't all shown up at once! I had DS at 3pm, we were moved to a room at 5:30pm and by 6pm I think we had over 10 people in there. Luckily they all didn't stay long.

I didn't mind visitors if they told me when they were coming and I preferred if DH was home. Luckily we didn't have a ton of visitors, but DH's family kept wanting to stop by unexpected and he quickly caught onto my irritation and let them know they had to give us a heads up.

I think it must be a personality thing! Some people are going to like visitors and some aren't.

I'm in the I don't like visitors person, and I think all my friends knew that so they just mailed gifts and cards to me. Also they knew that I throw a 1 months red egg party and they could just wait for that.

We didn't allow visitors because we were very cautious about DD getting sick. A friend with a three year old would have definitely been a no no!
Aside from that, I walked around pretty much topless for the first month, so no, I liked being on our own.

No, it was awful. My LO was overstimulated and would shut down and sleep whenever visitors came by and that would mean he'd be up all night with me. I'm so apprehensive about visitors this time around.

After the first 2 weeks, yes. Before then, just immediate family.

I did after a month at home.

Loved visitors, especially those that were mothers and were mindful of coming for a short visit on our schedule and offering to bring food or something.

I loved visitors and I had no problem telling people I was tired or needed to nurse and they had to leave. My BFFs spent the morning with me and DH left to go spend time with DD1, and it was great. we had so much fun.

@sslm: nope, actually we had that exact scenario. My son died from catching basically the common cold when he was a newborn, so I'm a lot more strict than most people. We didn't have any visitors for two months (except my parents at one month), but anyone with kids we held off on for a while.

At home and some visitors were ok as long as it was short and sweet. And I'll take a text over phone call any day, easy to answer at your leisure.

I mostly only had visitors in the hospital and didn't mind that (except for one non-family that made me feel awkward). At home I wasn't really ready to see people until after first month if that! It will be interesting to see how I feel with my second!

@LAZB: that is terrible - I am so so sorry about your newborn ! I was terrified of germs with my first as well and pretty much quarantined myself (aside from family)

I liked visitors who brought me deli sandwiches and stayed for like half an hour.
And my mom, who cleaned and grocery shopped for me.

I generally don't like visitors to my house even when I'm not postpartum
We only had a few family members visit in the hospital, that was mostly fine but I do remember feeling pretty tired having to make conversation with people while they were there.

At home was definitely easier to have visitors and only my best friend and her husband came besides family. They did surprise me and stay like all day two days in a row (came in from out of town but didn't stay overnight at our house). I love them but it was a bit too long. But I understood why, my BFF really just wanted to soak up as much time with my baby, she was just in love!

I think next time I will be much more open to visitors because it will also be a good way to entertain our firstborn!

I loved people who brought food and didn't stay long. The only one I didn't mind was my MIL who came and stayed with us for a week, but she did a ton of housework and did all the cooking for us.

I liked visitors at home IF they kept it short. I didn't mind texting at all

I liked having visitors both in the hospital and at home! I enjoyed getting to see and talk with people and it is obviously fun to show off your cute little baby!
