We are 4-5 years away from this but I think I might stay home on their first day. I'm assuming preschool or kindergarten would have a partial day so I would want to be home when they get home.

Probably not. I might take time off so I can put them on the bus/get them off the bus if my work hours aren't conducive to that by then.

I don't work, but if I did I would take the day off. Parents were expected to be there for the first day of school, they held a meeting with everyone and then another meeting with the teachers.

Our school has a delayed start the first day for the first year kids and parents are kind of expected to be there. My DH and I will both attend. He is going to work from home that day. I already WAH, so I'm often flexible for that kind of thing. If I worked in an office I would either take the day off or ask to work remotely.

Our preschool does a "gentle transition" where they invite parents into the classroom to drop off the kids on the first day (and during the first week). Most parents tend to leave after the first 30 minutes or so. I plan to drop DS off this year and stay for a little bit, and go to work a little late (or maybe not even that late, as his school starts in the morning this year).

I think about this every year when all my coworkers are late to work on that day
I think I will either take a few hours off just to put her on the bus or pick up early from aftercare, but I have too little PTO to "waste" a full day that could be used for family vacation. I also am allowed to be a little bit flexible with situational telework so that may be an option as well if I can make up any hours I miss.

Probably not. The first day here is an assessment day on staggered entry. So, she will go for a day, then have a bunch of days off before starting for good. I will probably go in late on assessment day and her first day where we will take in supplies and meet the teacher.

Yes! At least for me, I remember feeling a lot of anxiety surrounding the beginning of the school year. I don't know if DD will feel that or not, but I want to try to ease any stress or worries by taking the day off.

nope - I like routines so we all stick to them - kids off to school. mom off to work!

They always have a parent event on the first day of school so DH has taken half days.

I SAH but DH will go in late to see both girls off. Then he'll go to work. Our schools don't do gentle transition (and I'm personally glad for it).
