DS1 is throwing up after taking 2 doses of Cefdinir for an ear infection that did not go away with amoxicillin. We are giving him probiotics.
Has anyone else's LO thrown up with this medicine?
I am waiting to hear back from the after hours nurse.
Augmentin has worked in the past. I am not sure why they didn't prescribe it.

I would guess Augmentin wasn't used because it's in the amoxicillin family. Both of my kids (5 and 2) have been able to take Cefdinir for ear infections without issues like vomiting.

We used augmentin after a failed amoxicillin course though, so you can sometimes. Is LO taking it on a full stomach, after a meal?

We had red poop. No stomach upset though and the doctor warned us of the poop color change, but he had lots of stomach issues with augmentin.

@MrsSRS: yes we are giving it to him after dinner. He's thrown up 6 times tonight. His dinner was leftover Mac n cheese and blueberries so I don't it was something he ate that caused this. Could be a return of that stomach bug or maybe the Cefdinir?

Yuck, so sorry! I was going to suggest a full stomach, but looks like that isn't your problem.

Cefdinir was the worrrrst. Omg explosive runs. After a day I made my ped rx another. Ask for Zithromax.

@gingerbebe: I will ask the doctor for it tomorrow thanks! the after hours nurse just said to give pedialyte or diluted Gatorade tonight.

No throwing up but caused awful diarrhea and the worst diaper rash LO ever had. Hope your LO feels better soon!

Uh oh. My 10 month old just started it today. No throwing up, but now I'm scared for the diarrhea. Think I'll pick up some probiotic drops tomorrow.

No vomiting, but for sure bad diarrhea. We have done Cefdinir after Amoxicillan and Augmenten didn't work (all for one ear infection), so it's possible her stomach was just antibiotic-d out.

No throwing up, but DS broke out in hives after a few days on it. Luckily he only has two doses left so the doc said we can stop giving it. I hope your LO feels better!

@autumnleaves: Did you stick with the Cefdinir? Any more throwing up? My 10m old started it Wednesday, had diarrhea twice Friday, and threw up today. She threw up a little while eating her dinner (before she even had today's dose) and then again all over the both of us while she was nursing at bedtime. On one hand, I'm hoping it's just the medicine so my oldest and I are spared, but on the other hand, we've got six more days of meds to go.

@SLR: yes the doctor didn't think the vomiting was related to the Cefdinir and LO hasn't thrown up since Wednesday night so he's continuing with the Cefdinir. I contacted daycare Thurs am and there is another stomach bug going around in his room so I think he had that plus the ear infection.
So far no one else in our house has gotten the stomach bug and I hope it stays that way. So much stuff is going around - it's awful!

No throwing up but I oranges reddish tint to her stool if she had dairy or milk too close to taking it

It just gave her diarrhea like others have said, no throwing up.
