DD's party is Saturday from 1-3pm
Do I need to have food or is cake and ice cream enough?
If it matters its at home and only 3 friends are coming - 4 yrs old.

Personally I wouldn't throw a party without food. I don't think a full meal is necessary at that time but a couple of savory snacks would be nice.

I think you're fine if you don't, as long as you let the parents know. I'd appreciate a heads up, because I'd expect lunch at that time, that's when we usually eat on weekends.

I'd maybe have a veggie/dip tray and a fruit salad on hand
just in case someone is hungry.

I'd put out a couple of snacks; maybe some veggies and dip, and a cheese and cracker tray.

Yikes! Glad I asked! We eat lunch at 12 so I would have thought everyone would eat beforehand!
I will order some pizza and make a fruit and veggie platter!
Thanks everyone!

I would not expect lunch, but I think its standard to set something out for parents to nibble on.

Another yes to food! Even if it's just snacky type food, I wouldn't throw a party without something to serve.

It might be regional too. In NYC, those could be brunch hours! I think snacks are fine--I just think I would communicate to everyone what generally will be served.

I would assume some food would be there, since it's close to lunch time. Doesn't mean I would expect a full meal - but I would be surprised not to see any snackies/apps.

I would expect food, at the very least a bunch of snacks and appetizers.

@Mamaof2: Yay for pizza!
If your guests are like me they are just getting themselves together for your party and driving to your place. I've worked up an appetite just thinking about the to do list a hour before your party, any party.
