My LO is 2. Does she have to walk through a scanner or can she get a pat down?

We just carry our LO through the metal detector. I wouldn't ever walk through or take my LO through those Xray machines..
If you don't want to watch through the metal detector I'm sure you can ask for a pat down.
Where you flying?

@Andrea: Have fun! Exciting! I carried LO through the metal detector.

@chopsuey119: @Rubies: They have the full body scanners now so I am scared of those!

@Andrea: Yeah I would NEVER walk through a full body scanner. Definitely would NOT have my LO walk into those scary machines either!

@Andrea: Just be firm and tell them NO. They can just pat all of you down.

Fwiw the full body scanner isn't as scary as everyone thinks, I've done it a few times and it wasn't a big deal

@prettylizy: I am just not sure about the radiation levels so I don't want to risk it for the LO.

@Andrea: I never thought about that, although I haven't flown since getting PG/having LO so it wasn't on my mind at the time.

@prettylizy: it just occurred to me today since I saw they have them installed now. I flew in December and they did not have them yet.

@Andrea: Last time I flew I saw some little kids go through the full body scanner - the youngest was maybe 5? Unfortunately I think it is required for everyone who is "assigned" to the scanner. At my airport, some people are routed through to a regular metal detector and some to the scanner, and it's luck of the draw, so maybe you won't have to? If you do, I would just say you want to opt out and get the pat down. I go through the scanner now and it's not a big deal to me, but if I was pregnant or had a LO, I would be very apprehensive too.

I usually see parents holding their toddlers. As for the full body scanners, I normally have no problem walking through them, just not when pregnant.

We've held our son and walked through the metal detectors, now that he is older he can walk through, although I don't know if he will or not.
I am undecided about the patdown versus the full body scanners. Has anyone done the patdown with a toddler?

I just flew on Friday (I'm 32 weeks) and was able to decline the full body scanner and just do a standard metal detector with zero problems. The airport I flew through (Columbus OH) had signs everywhere telling you you could decline.

I don't know if you can hold your child in the full body scanner anyways. You have to stand with your arms spread out.
