I LOVE QUILTS.

Those are really pretty!!

I don't hate them but we also got three handmade croquette quilts. They are smaller and they aren't big enough for more then a lap quilt now that she is bigger.

I think handmade quilts are beautiful and meaningful. Just as long as you don't get 5 of them. I was at a shower recently and she got 4 alone. That doesn't include the count at the other 3 showers she had.

I received multiple quilts/knitted/crocheted blankets--8 that I can think of!--and some from people who have never met me or LO. I think it is a sweet and very generous gesture, and I certainly appreciate the time and effort put into making each keepsake! I will say, however, that the ones that are the most special are from those closest to myself and LO.

I like quilts when you get up to the twin bed size. I will be honest, the one I had to have as part of the crib set never got used. I might be tempted to use one now as the base of my son's play tent!

The quilt and knitted or crocheted blankets we received are hands down some of the most cherished gifts DD received. I have my own small (for now) collection of quilts, don't think I could ever have enough. Huge appreciation for them, the work, and would love to attempt someday!

I like quilts as long as the quilter is skilled and has nice taste! Yours are lovely and I'd be happy to receive one but I've seen some ugly quilts out there! I'd probably only make them for close friends and family because I'd hate to think of someone throwing away all that work!

I guess I'd second @redsmarties on the difference between making or buying something? MIL gave me a quilt for our wedding shower that I hated (especially since we registered for something totally different)

I think baby blankets that can be used outside the crib might be different than gifting something that's more of "decor" that might not go with a chosen theme?

I usually give quilts that are on the small side so they're easier to use as play mats and for things other than just in a crib.

I love quilts and blankets if they're made by someone we know and love. I don't love store-bought ones that much.

Your quilts are beautiful! I am totally jealous of your talent so please do NOT find another hobby!

I think a quilt would only be on a worst gift list if it didn't suit the giftee's style at all.

As a quilter myself - I love them and I enjoy getting them as gifts, too. DHs grandma is a quilter and I was actually disappointed that we didn't get one from her at our shower (I'm sure one is on it's way at some point though!). I can see how some people might not like quilts if they aren't their style, but like you, I'll go out of my way to use the handmade ones (mostly crocheted and knitted) we've received because I know how much time and love is in them!

I love quilts and the ones you posted are beautiful! My husband and I both have quilts from when we were babies and I love the idea that our kids will use them now. I also love that they already have quilts from one of their grandma's, an aunt and a great-aunt. I just think they will be such special family heirlooms for them someday.

@Mae: this! I think it's important to know your recipient and make something they will like. I've definitely been to showers where the quilt was not the mom-to-be's taste at all.

I received several blankets as gifts for LO and the 2 that I love the most were handmade (1 crochet and 1 woven), but those only get used as stroller/swing blankets. The others get used for floor play or laying on the grass now that it's warm.

I love quilts, blankets, afghans, all of it! My mom made one for our lo and I used it for her monthly photos. A couple of other women gifted us afghans. I have them around the house and that way I can pull one out

My thought is this - if someone takes the time to make me something, that's really special. They didn't just go to the store and buy me something on a list or say, Oh, Amazon - CLICK. Something as amazing as a handmade quilt is great.

@Sammyfab: This. I think a quilt (or knitted blanket, etc) could only be disastrous if it was completely wrong for the couple's home/style/etc. I think quilts are amazing!

I big fat love quilts. LOVE. I always said I wanted to raise my babies in quilts, but they're hard to come by for a decent price and I can't sew so my collection is small.

I would love to have either of the quilts you posted OP, the perfect modern style!

Either way, I love being gifted quilts but I want to throw every crocheted one in the trash. So itchy!

@rawrasaur: I can understand that completely. I think it's hard with the smaller sized blankets/quilts because you do get inundated with them and there's only so much you can do with them.

I guess I prefer the ones that are more of a scene, if that makes sense, like a sailboat, or farm, not so much the more traditional formations. I would also be open to a quilt made of either my husband's shirts or my son's baby clothes, not in clothing format, but a pattern.

Gah, I am making no sense today.

I love quilts and those are beautiful! Much more practical than a knit blanket I think.
